I needed to see Zippy’s again even second I hand 😊feel the satisfaction. During my parents anniversary we visited Oahu for three weeks and I loved every second of it from the traditional pig roast at the cultural center, the road side fried shrimp and fish, the Pasteries, the ocean, the swimming spots, the malls, the sights and sounds, the wonderful weather and so much more. I wish I could’ve stayed I still miss the island so badly. 😅

Shinichi, your mother reminds me of my own Japanese grandmother in her understated elegance. I similarly haven’t been able to see my grandmother in nearly 3 years due to Japanese COVID restrictions, but seeing you hang out with your mom filled a tiny bit of that void (brought a tear to my eye too 🥲) thank you for sharing these simple yet intimate family moments.

Missed those days back then. Leaving Roosevelt High School after class. Then going to Zippy's to hang out with friends. Late 70's were fun. Even at night going in our cars to hangout and meet up with other friends from Mckinley, Farrington, Kamehameha etc.. We all kind of knew someone from almost every school back then.. Remember the Zip Pac was less than 3 dollars back then so affordable.. Worked at the Kapahulu branch grave yard shift everyone would come by after the bars and nightclubs closed it would be be so busy.. The food was so good to eat at break time.. Miss those days. Been in Southern California since 88.. But at least we have L&L out here.. Glad to see your mom is healthy after covid. Blessings to your family Satoshi

That Zippy's brings back so many memories. Like Nikki said Rice and Gravy. My brother ate the gravy with fries. Did you also go to Peewee's across the street from Washington Intermediate? Ono teri-burgers too. There use to be a wagon truck with candies and groceries. Shave Ice behind the school, o-bon festivals, that area was safe and great to grow up in. Watching your videos have brought back so many memories. Thank you!!! May your Mom continue to be blessed with good health.

My memories of Zippy's was the one in Wahiawa, where I grew up. It was a special thing for my family to dine in and I would get he kids spaghetti plate until I got older and got the won ton min. I think that was the most expensive item back then too at around $10. Then L&L opened up in Wahiawa, so started going there instead because of their chicken katsu. The last few months I lived in Hawaii before I moved to the mainland, Zippy's just started selling the Korean fried chicken, but it was always a "special" menu item

I’m in Honolulu and frequent Zippys several times a month in fact I just ate Zippys Turkey Plate today one of their specials. Regarding the fish in the Zip PAC it’s not Mahi-mahi but breaded Hoki Fish. Now the bad news, McDonald’s no longer sells Saimin because the supplier Okahara Saimin went out of business and McDonald’s had no comments if they will ever bring it back!
@carlerickson74 Жыл бұрын
I was super bummed to hear about McDonald’s not having Saimin any more! I did get a saimin from rainbow drive in that seems like it could work for McDonald’s too but ramping up production could be an issue for that saimin company.

I can no longer eat my childhood favorites as I found out when I went back to my childhood town. I was in the bathroom after a single bite vomiting up everything, so to be able to is a blessing. I'm glad you still can.
