The DS truly is a masterpiece of a vehicle. It looks just right and has the engineering to envy modern cars...

Thank you. All the reasons I have been totally addicted to Citroen for 52 years and 17 Citroens including ID, DS, D Safari, GS, GS wagon, CX Prestige, Xantia, C4 Cactus and 3 new 2CV6s... brought home to Australia... My parents ended up with a new GS and CX My brother 2 x IDs and a Xantia. Still have my 1990 2CV6 Chat plus C4 Cactus. Leased cars in Europe included a GSA and C4 Cactus ETG diesel . Drove a few SMs and C6. C6 was the last true Citroen. Cactus is a special lightweight machine with a conventional suspension plus Airbumps The💝 Citroen Oli lightweight EV has many unique Citroen hallmarks... The Ami quadracycle was also bold.

Thank you. It just a shame that Citroen's innovation and flair has taken the back seat these days under the badge engineering of the parent company. Having said that, the current C3 is a surprisingly good package.

The Oli and Ami are inspired. My 2019 C4 Cactus with airbumps is likewise. The rest is very mainstream and uninspiring. Hydraulic cushion suspension is a small concess with comfort as a focus. Why German sportiness and hard ride and seats became an industry goal I never understood .

I've loved the big Citroens since I was a kid back in the '70s and while my dad had a Dyane and a GS Club estate, I always liked the DS and CX. I owned a D Special (ID19B) and a CX 25 GTi Turbo 2 in my 20s, then a couple of XMs after that which I never really liked besides the looks as I had more problems with both of them (a 3.0 V6 Si and a 2.0 SEi) than I could deal with and ditched them in favour of a much simpler a Volvo 940 estate - the difference in thickness of the Haynes manuals for the XM and the Volvo 940 has to be seen to be believed. I'll be reacquainted with a 1953 11BL at some point next year which I'm looking forward to - I haven't driven it for over 20 years as it's currently back in its home country of France (but is UK registered). Short of not owning nor having driven a C6, that'll be me having owned the four main big Citroens. Out of them all, the DS/ID is the most comfortable, the CX was the most fun and the XM was the biggest headache.

Who allowed their air suspension to be used - Rolls-Royce/Bentley, or the other way around, for bucks?
@stephenberry8658

Not air suspension. Hydro pneumatic added to springs to give it self levelling, progressive springing under load via nitrogen. RR high pressure hydraulic system was driven by a pump odd the cam shaft instead of belts. Used under licence from Citroen because it gave the best self levelling ride. Mercedes went with air suspension as did Range Rover.
