In this video I break down what makes Gran Turismo (1997) great. The Gran Turismo series is considered one of the best in Simulation/Simcade niche, leading the race (pun intended) on console until Forza Motorsport (2005) arrived to challenge it.

This game made simulation racing mainstream outside of PC. There was no doubt, there were many hours worked. All of the data was made for the first time, unlike so many that have come later because of this game. Great video!

This was a nice trip back into the classic game, and even though I missed the boat on growing up with this game, I think of it as not only great for it's time, but also as having held up damn well today. Also, I didn't know someone had made a 60fps and ultra wide patch for emulating GT1

Some GT1 Facts: - 1967 Chevrolet Corvette and 1998 Mazda Roadster only available in arcade mode. - The first game to support the Dual Shock controller. - The game title is Italian for grand touring.

Good video as ever, Danny! And a very in depth one. As a teen I had Need for speed Carbon, and it got you to become familiar with your cars in a way kind of similar to what you describe here. You couldn't get every car in one playthrough, so I played it multiple times to experience the different cars it offered

@@RetroRangerReviews88 It's worth knowing that apparently the oversteer/understeer options you get when tuning the tyres are inverted! I only found out recently, but it'd explain why some of the cars understeered so hard they were unusable for me...I probably tried to fix them with tyres and just made them worse!

The crazy thing for me about Gran Turismo is they apparently had a hellish time getting car companies to sign over the rights to include their cars in the game. It's the reason why there aren't that many American ones in GT1. The negotiations seem to stall (if you pardon the pun) at the fact they didn't see any benefit to it. It's really odd to think how that was the attitude back then.
