One of the best things to come out of that game is the Insomniac Museum. First is because there are multiple ways to access it. Second is because it's a fully explorable level showcasing stuff that was cut from the first two games. I love when the developers go above and beyond in terms of bonus content like this. It's what makes "Going Commando" one of my top picks in the series.

I miss the humor too, but most of all I miss the aesthetic. The word "edgy" doesn't quite do it justice. It's like a tasteful cartoon-version of gritty lived-in sci-fi. When I think ps2 Ratchet, I'm reminded of things like Blade Runner and Cowboy Bebop. A cynical somewhat dreary mood, that in Ratchet's case is perfectly complimented by humor that is silly but also measured and witty. The humor in the latest game Rift Apart is really bad. During combat an enemy might shout something like "you're not allowed to defend yourself!", and when I sneaked up on a group of Goons-for-Less, one of them said "hey, does anyone wanna see my pecs?". Of course every weapon vendor is now a ms. Zurkon with a thick Southern accent, and the battle arena announcer is kid-Zurkon...

@@kirbytheartist3318 It actually has it, but in a different way. It criticizes media industry and consumerism, how series/movies (like Secret Agent Clank) or a pop star (like Courtney Gears) can obssess and fool so many people, to the point they'd accept a genocide as a desirable thing. It also presents bad behaviour from the media, like the normalization of violence and nastyness (Dr. Nefarious has a regular show, the Villain Weekly, where he openly tells he's gonna commit a genocide), and bad journalism, when Darla interviews Qwark after Ratchet defeats momma thyrranoid. And if these things keep being produced, it's because they have enough audience: consumerism.

Speaking of Megacorp. When playing rift apart, you can see television screens with the Megacorp logo on it. Makes me wonder what happened to Megacorp in Rivets dimension. Perhaps Emperor Neferious took over the company at some point and used it to take over that dimension. It would be a nice parallel to Quark taking over Ratchet's Megacorp in Going Commando for his own selfish reasons.

One thing people don't seem to bring up in reference to the HD Collection is that you can set your PS3 to a 4:3 aspect ratio in the Display settings to play them without issues like HUD elements from off-screen popping up. I mention this because the cutscenes that were letterboxed in the 4:3 mode in Ratchet 2 on PS2 are actually now just 4:3 cutscenes. I don't remember if this is the case for 3 & Deadlocked, I haven't touched those games in quite some time and never figured to try this with them. Try this out if you're curious. I really appreciate this feature because it preserves the originally CRT experience for those looking for it. I replay the first two Ratchet games and the Devil May Cry trilogy this way. Unfortunately, every other HD collection I've tried on PS3 doesn't work like this. At least PS2 Classics on PS3 work like this.

@@MattCrossMedia Kingdom Hearts does NOT work like that on PS3. Er, at least the HD 2.5 doesn't. I have tried this. Though I still love the planets on the first game more and the music on both games are amazing. Ratchet and clank 2 is a perfect sequal, and I always go between the ps2 games along with A crack in time as the best game in the series. Also fun fact about the game in EU or scandinavia: The game is called just Ratchet and clank 2 in scandinavia and in UK its called lock and loaded, but the platinum version of the game in Scandinavia is called Ratchet and Clank 2 Going commando, but the disc still just says Ratchet and clank 2. Couldn't agree more that this is the perfect sequel. I was introduced to the franchise thanks to a demo disk I got with my PS2, and that demo disk featured a short demo of Blackwater City and Metropolis. I begged my mom for the full game. I spent _ages_ playing that game, being perfectly content with it being the only game in the series. Imagine my surprise when, a few years later, we are at my country's equivalent to Blockbuster DVD on a Friday night and I find Rathet and Clank 2 on the shelf there. I played that game for 1 weekend. I didn't get very far at all (I couldn't beat the first hoverbike rice - I suck at games) but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I played. Fast forward to the school holidays that year, my cousin came to visit me and he had _both_ Ratchet and Clank 2 and 3! Being that he was a bit older than me, he didn't allow me to play very much of either, but I watched as he beat both games. I never did get around to playing either of them myself, I even tried with an emulator a while back but I couldn't get conistent FPS. Unfortunately I'm a broke dude in a bad part of the world, so getting a Playstation isn't in the picture. My complaining aside, I wanted to thank you for making these videos. Young Fishe would be very happy to know he wasn't the only kid freaking out about how cool these games were!

Playing this game for the first time this year (along with the first) something felt wrong. I think it's the function of the guns. They all kinda blend together in function. This game, you could use most weapons in most situations Though the second is more replayable than the first
@rushalias8511
@rushalias8511 3 жыл бұрын
I suppose for most you can do that. Like he said the weapons become outclassed later being replace by others. Like the bouncer is basically the gravity bomb upgraded. But depending on certain enemies you can find the weapons easier or more difficult. Like using mega rockets for the megapede Plasma coil for the protopets. I thinks it's good that all weapons are usable for different enemies since it let's you pick your favourite without worrying about it being so unreliable. But that's just me. I understand if it feels.bland if you cant be as creative as you want. Hopefully the third game rectified that since I think that arsenal has better situation weapons while still being all round.

I agree completely that the final boss is disappointing, doesn't feel any more significant than a gladiator arena boss. The giant protopet has nothing against the epic final boss fight with Drek. And I know GamingBrit pointed out the same thing about the ending of the story, nobody holds Fizwidget accountable at the end of Ratchet 2, while it was clearly a rushed change having Qwark as the final villain, I also don't mind that Megacorp and Fizwidget aren't held accountable. It clearly wasn't int he writer's intentions to paint it out this way, but I like that extra bit of cynicism compared to how polite everyone is in the newer Ratchet games. Ratchet just wanted that thrill and adventure of being a hero again, returning a rich guy's property isn't some heroic act, his selfish desire to go on a fun adventure lead to the protopet catastrophe. Angela Cross isn't completely innocent, she hired thugs to work for her, and in the beginning of the game, she robbed a store and assaulted the worker. Not to mention she also used to work for Megacorp which was always dodgy and unethical. It makes sense to me that Ratchet and Angela wouldn't go out of their way to hold Megacorp accountable, and consider the Protopet elimination a victory. The galaxy remains unchanged after everything Megacorp has done to make it the way it is. BUT I can't see Clank turning a blind eye to Fizwidget and Megacorp.

He had a good balance of being a hero and be a "no-nonsense guy". 2nd game had the best humor/fun story. Best level design too. 3rd game had amazing characters (Nefarious, Laurence, Courtney, the crew of the ship, etc..). A remake of this game and the 3rd one would be a dream. Especially since a lot of characters/ennemies are already made in Rift Apart.

Ratchet 2's default aspect ratio is actually dependant on your PS2's settings; there’s an aspect ratio option in the system menu, and whatever option you selected in it will be what any game with widescreen support will default to. My PS2 is set to 4:3 because I play on a CRT, and that’s the option this game defaults to for me.

"Angela found the real Fizwidget tied up in a closet for months?' I'm pretty sure that this game proceeded "Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire", where Mad-Eye Moody had been kidnapped while the bad guy impersonated him. Similar plot point in both stories. I wonder if J. K. Rowling played this game, or heard about it from a friend.

great vid man. i want to say that everyone hates on the meteor gun, but it is a good weapon. when you get to the last third of the game the heavy lancer is not as effective, so having the meteor gun with the lock on mod fills the lancer's role as the rapid fire machine gun. I agree I didn't like how they changed the fundamentals of the lava gun to achieve this, and RC3 handle the level up better. I think if you use the meteor gun with the mindset that it replaces the heavy lancer you will like it more.

I started with Going Commando when got my PS2 Slim for the second time back in 2013 when my older one stopped reading disks. Oh my blerg this game is so good and out of the classic PS2 era R&C this is one of my favourites in the series as I feel that it's mostly well balanced in terms of almost everything. :)

Truly love these older PlayStation games and I love how I grew up with the series in their prime. Like every year I’d be buying the new ratchet game and you would just see the progression of each game getting better and better as I got older. I like the future games but the ones after that really started to go down hill but thankfully the new ps5 game was very solid but still missing that edge that the ps2 games had but I don’t think we will ever get this level of humor and writing.

Fun fact, that 'epic opening' in the UK version (since it was just called Ratchet & Clank 2) plays the visual of the R&C text, but just stops before 'going commando' appears yet you still hear the sounds. So it's kind of awkward lol

I wish they remaster Ratchet and Clank, and Sly cooper games, and not just a straight basic upscaled port, but optional overhaul. able to play it in classic mode, or a optional modern overhaul looks and with modern gameplay tweaks with new features like cut content and new outfits etc etc. Something like Halo anniversary, or Shadow Man Remaster did.

while the 1st Ratchet and Clank game was my 1st, i never finished it because i was so afraid of that rising water section, 2 however i did finish and was the game that really got me to love the series although i think 3 does a much better job than 2 at proving just how good the series can be and im so glad we got Rift Apart after the lackluster Remake of the 1st game (as i have already said the original trilogy really needs to get the Reignited and N-Sane trilogy treatment).

ngl - I really wish we got those manuals too... I'm danish, and where I grew up, I don't recall anything fancy from the manuals in the games - I imagine that's something that was changed locally or I was just too rushed to get into the game to notice... I would've loved to have kept the physical copies if I knew/if there were such a thing as those manuals - again, might've just been my ignorant kid ass not noticing

Yeah, the PS3 Version have their Problems, but they are my Go-To when Revisiting these Games. OK, I must they one large reason is, that they run faster. I live in Germany where PAL was default and our Games are just running with 80% Speed. On PS3 they run as intended. So the Games feel way better, unless you are still used to the old version.
