In modern times, if you get sick your parents take you to the doctor and you get some medicine to feel better, but in the fourteenth century illnesses like "The Black Death" would spread from town to town, wiping out entire villages of people. In today's educational animated video we look at what made "The Black Death" so deadly.
How terrible was this SICKNESS and ILLNESS? What can we learn from the history about this disease? Is the pandemic truly gone or can it one day come back? In what year did the plague doctors actually appear?

It is a way to prevent the plague from getting to them. The bird thing to prevent them from smelling it, the hat to protect its head, the cloths for protecting its body, and they had a stick so they wouldn’t have to touch the body, this is for what I know, this info might not be accurate

Many Norwegian last names comes from farms. If you worked on a farm (which most people did back then) then your last name would be the name of the farm you were working on. Because of the Black Death, many Norwegians today has the last name "Ødegård", which translates to "Deserted farm"

@Asutosh Padhy the point is that it's easier to find a cure and stop the bubonic plague. If covid 19 broke out in the middle ages then everyone would get infected and more would have died because the black death was quite an overkill for the middle ages' medicine, while not being easy enough to spread
@100percentvirginwithbigd4

@@barto22 yeah exactly, if covid19 hit the 14th century, it can wiped out about 70-80% global population (if spreads globally). There were no strict law and order, not enough technology for medicine, hygienic problems, yet modes of transportation by that time is not yet accessible, so maybe it can wipe out an entire population of Europe.

Yersenia pestis (the Black Plague) was passed on by fleas from both humans AND rats! Researchers have investigated the triggers for historic plagues and discovered that many were preceded by weather anomalies that caused famines -- incidents such as volcanoes and unusual climate events that led to massive crop failure around the world. When crops failed people migrated to cities. But the failed crops caused rodents to starve, and the rodents -- carrying the fleas that lived on them -- followed the humans who had always been a source of food. Yersenia pestis is endemic in wilderness rodent populations-- several cases of bubonic plague are reported every year among humans living in the deserts of the American southwest and Asia. But when rats and mice carry highly contagious diseases into cities they can be triggers for the plagues our ancestors experienced. Starvation had weakened people and made them vulnerable to disease, and a lack of hygiene (open sewers, high-density housing, no understanding of germ theory) virtually guaranteed at least 50% death rate when plague struck.

Poor Italy never learns from its mistakes, history has repeated itself. For that matter, the whole world has not learned until its too late and a pandemic spreads worldwide.

My compliments to you. A history teacher and a professor are the only one's I've heard mention the ghost towns rediscovered during and after WW2.

Many Norwegian last names comes from farms. If you worked on a farm (which most people did back then) then your last name would be the name of the farm you were working on. Because of the Black Death, many Norwegians today has the last name "Ødegård", which translates to "Deserted farm"
