Cool examples, Brendon! I don't have a lot of box sets, but I take the discs out of them for easier listening access and then set the boxes on a shelf for display. If the discs don't come in their own jewel cases that can be removed, I'll put them in blank cases and then if I have time, I'll create my own art for them, combining the box art with the disc's track listing. However, I can see how storage would be a problem for you since you have so many!

Wow -- you have an awesome collection of box sets, Brendon! You should display the one shaped like a coffin for Halloween! I only have three box sets -- Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and Barbra Streisand. I have actually been listening to the Streisand one since it was inaccessible in a storage unit for years and I just recently got it out. It's a book style set so the CDs aren't in jewel cases and the song list is only printed in the inside of the book. So it's kind of a pain to listen to in the car since I have to bring the whole box and look inside the book for the track list. However, there are some really interesting rarities like awards show acceptance speeches and demos. I would probably only recommend it for die-hard fans though.

My personal favorite box set would be Aerosmith's Pandora's Box. It's full of B sides, outtakes, remixes and some live material. I definitely can't complain about it at all.

Great video ...of a sample of boxsets from your collection. I agree with you about what I look for in a boxset. Greetings from Perú 🇵🇪

Excellent video! Those odd-shaped boxes are a storage issue, I agree. The things I look for in a box: unreleased tracks, live content, 5.1 remixes, video content, good packaging, and a quality book. (Scarves & marbles - not so much!) Many of those Jethro Tull sets check all of those boxes. The huge sets from the Madfish label are also great, but very pricey.

Great video - Loved the examples and also the different frames of what makes a good set - For me, cost can be a barrier so I find it has to be an album that I ADORE and need everything from, or one of those more simple and cheaper 'clamshell' collections that put together a bunch of albums for a good value per album

Great show!!! Loved seeing some of the elaborate box sets that I don't have, mainly because of how much space they take up. Storage is a big issue with a finite storage space. I seem to like smaller box sets for the reduced price and the storage convenience.

Cool collection of box sets. The box sets I prefer are the ones where it collects a bunch of full length albums, or it’s a best of type with unreleased songs, demos and live material. I’m not really a big fan of the deluxe anniversary editions of a single album. I find those are generally quite expensive and aren’t worth the price for what you’re getting in them content wise. I’ll only buy those if I really like the band and/or already don’t own the album on individual CD. Also packaging, I need to be able to access the discs easily and not have too much trouble.
@AndI0td763 Жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. Take the recent Rush deluxe sets of albums like Moving Pictures or Signals for example. Love the band, love those albums but I already own LP copies and they are quite expensive for what you get. There’s a lot of cool extras no doubt but mostly I just want some cool packaging and the unreleased music or live sets to go with the albums, I don’t necessarily need all the extras. And I haven’t been really into the new artwork they’ve been doing for those releases either but I’m glad they’re out there at least.

favorite has to be alice in chains music bank. it combines demos of songs from their pre-grunge era with outtakes from their albums, and collects up stuff they cut from dirt, the 2 from last action hero, and 2 songs recorded just for this set.

One of my absolute favorites is the Yardbirds "Glimpses" box set that came out a few years ago....checks off all the boxes (no pun intended), as far as sound quality, packaging, extras, unreleased material, etc. Highly recommended.

Hi Brendon. Great video. I have just received the Black Sabbath Live Evil Deluxe cd boxset. Partly because of the rave reviews you gave it and partly as I had an Amazon gift card for Christmas! It's a nice set for sure. Great book, tour programme and poster. In terms of unreleased material there isn't any as such although the remixed album is technically unreleased so I'm hapoy with that !! You are right it does sound amazing!! Other boxsets I have picked up and rate highly are the Marillion boxsets. Nicely put together with plenty of content. Slightly off topic but looking forward to new Saxon on Friday and hearing your thoughts on it.

Great video, your pulling off box sets I forgot I had. I don’t like to pull those box sets so they stay in pristine condition. I have that Journey “Time” box set along with an ELO box set from 30 years ago I have not played in yours. My Favorites are the WhiteSnake box sets, plus David Coverdale does a KZbin Video reviewing what’s in the Box set, his quite entertaining, again enjoyed this video.

I have that 4cd set by Tom Petty. There’s an image you cannot get with any other edition. I don’t have it in front of me right this minute I’ll post another comment soon about it. But I was glad that the Estate of Tom Petty released “Finding Wildflowers” as a Single cd. It’s too bad they didn’t plan on making an extra space for it like Genesis did with the Live boxset. You got all Live albums however they had a space for “Live over Europe” cd. And also the movie box for the “When in Rome 2007 DVD left a space for that. Rather then charging for the releases of those again. Now that was cool. End of Rant.

Great video mate , so many box sets out there but have you ever brought any that you regret and are there certain types you look at and pass on ?
@BrendonSnyder Жыл бұрын
None that I regret. I do my homework before buying to know what I’m getting. For me it all comes down to the music contained. I can be disappointed in the contents or packaging but as long as there is unreleased music I’m ok. The ones I pass on are the ones that don’t have any bonus material. For example I’ve passed on all of the Rush, Metallica, and Rolling Stones deluxe album boxsets because there is no unreleased studio work included. Also the bands generally release 2 CD version of those albums with a selection of content and I’m fine with that.

I remember the $2,500.00 Kiss box set that if you bought it, Gene would personally deliver it to your house wherever you lived. The other one was the big Guns and Roses set for 1K.
@BrendonSnyder Жыл бұрын
That was the Gene Simmons solo Monster boxset but he didn’t deliver it to your house unless you paid $10,000. For $2,000 you could go meet him at a convention center and he’d personally give it to you there.

I like that Kiss Ikons set, I bought the digital version a few years ago. I liked it because it collected almost everything that Ace wrote and/or sang lead on, since I didn't want to buy all of those Kiss albums just to get one or two songs by Ace. I thought that was a nice way to organize that box set, although the hardcore Kiss fan would probably have most of all of those songs already.

I’m an absolute sucker for boxed sets. I really prefer the sets that are unique; the look, packaging, shape, content. I already have the originals, and have heard them for years. Displaying the special boxed sets, for me, is an homage to the record. Especially important is an included book that talks about why the album is special, and includes pictures, etc. However, the Death Magnetic box you showed is baffling to me-why would they create a plain box with not even a logo on it? So boring-an awkward shape not even worthy of display.
@Ken-wq6oc Жыл бұрын
I don't really buy single artist boxsets, (unless those 5 CD original album series count) I prefer various artists comps that stick to a genre or era. Cherry red do a lot of them. I got a few last year, shoegaze & dream pop, American 70s power pop, UK mod bands, British folk rock from the 60s & 70s ect....that kind of thing
