Dr. Stephen Lippard illustrates what marks exceptional scientists and what drives extraordinary discoveries in science.
Dr. Lippard is the Arthur Amos Noyes Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at MIT whose work focuses on the role of metals in biological systems. He is best known for his work on the anti-cancer drug cisplatin, which contains platinum and is a first-line therapy for many cancers. His foundational work on platinum-based anticancer drugs has paved the way for other researchers working to develop cancer treatments. Dr. Lippard’s work has also helped advance cleaner fuel technologies, and shed light on the role of metal ions in signaling processes in the brain.
An Evening With Stephen Lippard took place Febraury 28, 2019, at Haverford College. The conversation was led by fellow Haverford alumnus Ted W. Love, CEO of Global Blood Therapeutics.
