Nice short pointer on mixing. It's a great way to get some little gold nugget out there. It's true what you're saying. Both mixes have done right for and by that song.

mixing is always getting overcomplicated for nothing. If you like your hihats at -12 dbfs for 1 beat and -21dbfs for another one, then so be it. Basically like you said: serve the song!!! If nothing is poking out too far and nothing is hiding too deep in the background when you listen at different volumes, youre good!!!

Mixing should always be about serving the song as a whole, and not egos. If the song calls for the the kick to lead and the bass to take second place, that is a decision made by the producer. Or sometimes it's the other way around. Doesn't always sit well with the musicians! That being said, the key elements for any mix are drums, bass and vocals. They are the anchors of any song and need to be given the attention they deserve. Gats, keys are supporting instruments. Took me a while to get that as I am primarily at guitar player..but that is how it should roll. Once you get that, it is mindblowing how quickly good mixes can come together. Just saying

I was hoping for an example of the different Wav sizes. The talking was fine, but the thumbnail led me here and I felt a little disappointed.
