What Makes a Trash Switch Axe in Sunbreak? (Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak)

As someone that started with Gunlance in World, and switched to being a Switchaxe main since Iceborne: It always baffled me, that some weapon types get so gutted because of their additional properties. When choosing a weaon for Gunlance, Switchaxe, Charge Blade and all the other weapons with additional properties, your selection is heavily reduced based on those properties. Meanwhile, weapons like Greatsword and Sword and Shield and choose whichever weapon based on their actual properties. Why is this a thing? Why not just give us an option to CHOOSE the phial type on Switchaxe and Charge Blade. Or the shelling type on Gunlance. They could still have some weapon fixed properties, such as shelling level, or the phial elemental modifier. Heck, I would be fine even if they don't give us ALL option, but a limited one (e.g. you can only add Paralysis Phial on certain weapons). It still would give us MANY MORE options and makes weapon selection a much more satisfying task.

I 100% feel this. I was so envious when people were running around using Gaismagorm Great Sword and Long Sword at launch. My bingo card/wishlist for MH6 has me hoping they bring back the custom weapon system like the rampage weapons but flesh it out more. And I can't imagine other weapons lile Gunlance, is seeing wide shells a good thing since most people like using the burst fire playstyle over the hack 'n' slash way?

Hot take: I refuse to use any of the listed weapons purely because I don't like how they look. My sets are definitely sub optimal, but so far they work well enough. I will only ever use weapons that I think look cool. Still, interesting video 👍🏽

@@MahnsterHunter Honestly, one of the things I love most about monster hunter is how much you can customise the game to your liking. I used Mind's Eye on a freaking Charge Blade in low/high rank cuz I didn't like my hits bouncing and being told when to load phials. I also used the hard hungerless gem for ages cuz I didn't like needing to eat to keep my max stamina capacity. I've since moved on from both to make more optimised builds, but they definitely helped me enjoy the game more before end game.

Thats precisely what they're there for. Early to mid game I would carry all them deensive and utility options. Worked wonders when it came to progressing the game.

Really hot hot take because you can change the Design of the Weapon to be fair in Iceborne you coulndt use all designs but in Sunbreak i think u can use any design

Yeah they allowed every layered weapon but that base weapon lookin cool before putting the wrapping on is just the icing on the cake

They didn't forget the seregios weapon special abilities, they just put it on seregios armor set instead of the weapons :(.

Which still sucks because in generationd, Seregios weapons had the evade effect and the skill Bladescale. They really did Seregios dirty

Garangolm Switch Axe is best axe. It chonky, stronk and make monster tired 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Funny enough, I went through most of Sunbreak with Garangolm axe until I got to Furious Rajang axe (for the purp)

Exhaust phials are my fav now. Tired monsters get beat down more

I use Steves swaxe as layered when I use my exhaust build. I just love how good it looks and prefer it aesthetically over the recounqueress (personally). And was definitely surprise they didn't give it the special attribute when some other monsters weapons got the special treatment. And lawd why why why'd they slap a dragon phial on it 😅

My favorite Switch Axe design is the base bone axe, purely for the nostalgia of 3 and 4. But they treated Seregios like it owed them money. Didnt give it a unique passive despite being the origin, took away its second tree, and made it a dragon phial. That was personal.
