Our playing is a flow of our heartbeat and breathing. Well said.

I loved this… Your passion and genuine excitement about each of the players’ styles and feel with the ukulele really shines through. I also agree with the comment that you’re able to communicate difficult, and or esoteric musical concepts to people in a very approachable way 🤙

Such a fun 'n' fascinating lesson, examining a specific quality of those great players! I love the explanation of rubato the most and the song that goes with it. To me, the definition of varying tempo or volume to convey feeling, while true, is sorely lacking in capturing the feeling of playing or listening to rubato. It *is* human. I feel like it's even something more mysterious and unexplainable than the emotions involved. It's experiencing something too beautiful to express. That's pretty dramatic, but that's genuinely what I think about it. It makes me emotional just trying to describe it, but that concept sends my mind reeling (even more than usual). 😅 Y'all at Rock Class are truly great. So talented, inspiring, helpful, and fun. Thank you! 😊

I totally agree that top 3 players. Oh, and what comes to James Hill, those chopsticks using and Billy Jean he has a great "comedy" In those too. I can't watch those ever without bursting to laugh😂

Rubato means robbing from one beat and giving to another. To do it the performer must have a deep understanding of the beat and be able to push and pull it without ever losing the pulse, which is just bad timing. Rubato, like dissonance increases excitement, that is bringing the music to the point where it’s about to fall apart then getting it under control before it does.
