Anytime I hear that a gaming company has "gone corporate" I generally think that means taking advantage of the community for a profit. I don't think CIG is taking advantage of the community for a profit. I think they just know their audience and they realized they are not a charity they are a business. If you know business then you know the primary purpose of any business is to make money. Asking a business not to do what makes them money is asking them not to be a business. As any company grows you get less personalized service. It doesn't become worse, you simply are treated like a customer. Their customer service needs work but it's not EA, it's not Activision/Blizzard. I think we as gamers focus on experience and the game and we forget that its a business first that happens to be making a really good game. The Devs and the Founder are extremely proud, dedicated, and passionate about the game...but they still have a business to run. The game they were building when they were giving good customer service is not the same game they are building now. If you want a bigger and better game they need to be a bigger and better company. They could deliver the original idea with a lot less people and a lot better customer support. CIG has some problems they need to address. Overpromising, underdelivering, missing deadlines, massive backlog of ships, making promises and failing to keep them, etc... but I can't get upset that the CEO and the Website keep telling people you don't need to buy ships just get other people to play....and people keep buying ships. Its like I'm trying to sell red apples but my green apples keep selling out. So I start focusing on selling green apples and people get upset. Which, you are welcome to... But I think as a community we created the problem and are looking for other people to blame...CIG bears SOME responsibility but we bear some as well. Stop buying ships and UEC and Merch. I've spent a lot of money in this game and all I want is my ship for it, nothing more, nothing less but I want CIG to keep their word and provide things they promised. I also want them to be ethical. I think ethics is what most people have a problem with CIG's tactics and operation but I'm of the mind that where money is the primaey goal ethics are already out of the window so any effort is fruitless. I think thats what a lot of people struggle with.

I blew past Legatus Navium a few years ago. It is nice to be appreciated and get a honrary title and such, but my goal is to fund the development and not draw money out of the project by calling for even more ship rewards on top of the current concierge rewards. I allready have pledged for 150+ ships. I am more than happy to see the development progress and connect with likeminded people. My main interest is for Star Citizen to be a game for everybody and it does not serve the purpose of the project if content is gated to a select few just to make them feel special. Just like in the initial pitch everything should be achievable in game. Of course some things are probaply not realistally achievable alone but that comes down to choice. My dream of Star Citizen is centered on Multiplayer Teamwork, so I doubt that I would be able to fly just about any ship in my Hangar on my own. I would rather be a small part of a crew and contribute to the overall success of the team. I personally am not a fan of NPC and AI blades, probaply because I don't want people thinking that I could get an advantage out of my ships. But since I don't want to take advantage of those systems it should not hinder the experience of other normal players who just want to bolster their ships with extra manpower while playing alone. I doubt it would be feasible to man a very big ship only with NPCs though, since that has been the stance of CIG from from the inception of the idea. I reached Concierge Status during the very first Idris sale at the Kickstarter and since then I tried to support the project regulary and use the ship sales as an excuse for that. Depending on how the projects needs that is going to be more or less. As to the VIP Support. Whenever I needed Support they did answer in a reasonable timespan and helped me with my ship related problems. (like e.g. blocking my ships from beeing giftable)

I would love higher concierge access. It is not talked about much, but characters and ships can become borked for an individual player and it is quite hard to get help with your specific issue. One wonders what will happen when wipes become a thing of the past.

"unless you want space superiority". Very important words lol. Whales can buy superiority, or in other word, whales can pay to win. SC's ship selling model perfectly fits the Cambridge Dictionary definition of "P2W" lol. I'll help by giving some definition. P2W: Using real money to gain an advantage over players in a game that can not or do not spend real money in said game. Including buying progression, purchasing powerful items (in this case ships), getting access to exclusive content (yup a thing in SC), or buying in-game currency that provides an edge in gameplay (also a thing in SC). Saying SC isn't P2W is like saying my Lexus GX 550 is not a Lexus, just because you dislike the word "Lexus" lol.

You are completely right. Everyone else is just playing pretend. However, the nice thing about SC is you can whale all you want. But if you dont have a crew its going to be a horrid experience. Example: When game is 1.0 id assume a prospector will be much better for solo than a mole, arrastra or the orion. As a solo player in a capital ship if you just make a dent on it you are going to have to pay a hefty repair price all by yourself. And since SC is mostly open area and pve/pvp everywhere, those larger ships as a solo player will get stolen and pirated from you. Now whales offer us all a great experience in SC. Which is roles. As a solo player im sure the whales want me to help them in numerous ways and as long as the pay is enough for be to do x job on their ship then I feel like we are all winning. So in that sense the bigger ships are enabling everyone else for content and experience they would not otherwise have in the game.

I have never seen so many whales claiming that it's people spending more than them that are the whales lol. A whale is anyone spending significantly more on a game than is reasonable simple for a transaction in exchange for playing the game. For a regular 30-60 hrs single player game, $70 is the new standard. For playing an online game, including server costs, 10 years at $10/month standard can be $1270. For a game with 6 DLCs each worth $40 standard could be $310. I'm thinking 10x the standard is a whale. Now, for Star Citizen which can be played for only $45, I'd argue anyone paying more than $450 is a whale, which I think is about a third of the player base

On the other hand, Star Citizen is a 55$ (did you all miss that base packages are 55$ now ?) minimum scam that has already sold hundreds of millions worth of pay-to-win content a decade BEFORE its 1.0 release. Also could you please quit calling us "customers". The TOS make it very clear that we aren't considered as "customers" but simply as "donators". They never sold the F7A to this day. It was available if you participated and succeeded in an in game event. The only ship that remotely fits the “said wouldn’t sell” tripe is kinda the F8A. And even then they’ve only sold the F8C. Not the same thing, yes looks like it, but it isn’t.

They did sell the mk1skin for 20usd in 2013.

One of my discord friends recently started playing Lil b4 invictice and they spend over 2000 in the first month of playing. But I've been playing 3 4 years and I'm at 3000 ish on my acount. I'd rather play for my ships than buy them in game

i would like to hear your thoughts now that they said crew NPCs probably wont be in 1.0. How do you think they will change things so it doesn't take an hour to get started without agent smithing?

Get teammates. Then you don’t have to “Agent Smith”.

I would really like to hear this as well. Many of us bought fleets worth of ships thinking we could crew them either ourselves and augmented with ai crew, or that we just needed a handful of friends to make an ai crewed ship fully viable. 1.0 is potentially 5+ years away. Can anyone here really expect us to keep buying these ships and funding the project if we know it will be 5+ more years on top of the 12 or so we have already had to wait before we can viable fly these ships???

Whoa. Tomato is wrong about space superiority or spawn ability. Just like he says….. buy it in game. I have issue with his argument. And I don’t know if he has a full time job but I have this thing called “disposable money”. And I don’t make videos and play a game for a living having all the time in the world to make in game money and preach about “whales”. So because I work ridiculous amounts of overtime and have disposable income, I can trade my services for a cool ship that I don’t have time to work for in the game. And support the game too.

I like to evaluate everything in life by this statement: "how much is my time worth?" I don't have the time to grind either. I pledge to get the game made and focus on what I enjoy the most.

it definetly creeped up on me and i was shocked when i got the message that i reached concierge, and from then on, it kept on going slowly over time. now im over 6 in and i know i fucked up. i somewhat regret parts of it but if it ends up funding the game of our dreams... at least it was for a good cause. Although they need to go back HEAVILY on the speeds in master modes, they are just faar to casual on them

Lol nothing against Space Tomato, I follow and enjoy his content, but he's the absolute last person I'd want to hear on the topic of whales, concierge or ship buying in general. The guy hates the funding model with a passion. 😂 And when the topic moves to ship purchase, he's either drawing blanks because it's out of his realm of interest, or he's visibly agitated on the topic as a whole. For the last 5+ years that I've followed him, he's ALWAYS been like this. It's just not his jam.

Sounds like exactly the right kinda differing perspective to bring onto this channel for this topic.
@durtyred863 күн бұрын
@CitizenScott if I hate clowns and you sit me down to talk about them, you can't expect for that topic to be interesting at length. And you definitely shouldn't expect me to know a lot about them. I'm going to draw blanks and say "ugh...idk" many, many times. Because it's not an interesting topic to me so you shouldn't expect me to entertain the idea.

@@durtyred86 Terrible analogy TBH. Not at all accurate, or even analogous really. This discussion is SC development related, Tomato is an SC content creator who follows development closely, and he had plenty of substance to contribute about the topic over the course of the hour. Seems like you just disagree, so you don't want to hear it. Common closed-minded mentality. Personally, I don't really agree with him here either, as I see every person as making a voluntary choice to spend every penny they do, but I still found it an interesting conversation, especially between him and the "buy big, earn down" guys. One that opens the door to more questions regarding the nature of marketing itself, the definition of "predatory," and the ethics of crowdfunding generally. I guess maybe it's true what they say? If you're bored, then you're boring.

@CitizenScott it's a terrible analogy to say believe individuals who don't care about s specific topic, shouldn't really talk at length about it?? Alright. Space tomato has said on several streams that he doesn't care to talk about ship purchasing in the least bit. In some cases, you can visibly see it change his mood.... It's obvious he hates the funding model. Asking him on to talk about whaling seems like a bad choice. If the topic drifts from there, fine. But you can't expect a man to be vocally productive on a topic he honestly hates. You have your opinion on the matter and I have mines. Hope you enjoyed the show.

CIG have said there will be not NPC’s to help fly your ships when the game launches, and to say there will even be NPC to fly your ship is just speculation. Come on guys, you’re misleading your viewers.
