Great video, I thought the glitches were a cunning ruse so the algorithm wouldn't kick in - it didn't spoil it for me. The animation is indeed exquisite, nothing feels under or over-animated, and your comments on action sequences are spot-on; very few directors seem to understand pacing and editing these days - or basic filmmaking language, for that matter. This is very impressive stuff.

I mean, the cupcakes on the balcony have more “relevance” than you’d think actually. It’s an easter egg really for the LOL fans. I would even consider it foreshadowing for Caitlyn. The most interesting technical thing is just how the series creators make you FORGET you're watching animation. Within a minute of the start of the brilliant intro sequence, I was watching a story. NOT animation. When the opening credits started, I had to pause it for a minute to wrap my head around what I was seeing. This is a sea change for animation. Literally one of the best series I have ever watched, (live OR animation) and I am not a spring chicken, so that's saying a lot. By the end of the first three episodes, I was in full worship mode. 😀

I honestly believe the scene where Viktor is running down the pier with his new leg has some of the best camerawork I've ever seen in animation. I also couldn't agree with the adult themes comment more, it's so boring when people just shove in random "mature" stuff because it's for older audiences, but Arcane handles the darker themes so well and never even comes close to this. I've just finished it but I could already watch the whole thing again.

Great video, tbh I wasn’t planning to watch any series at all in the near future, let alone a non-anime animated series but I saw this thumbnail like last week or something. Something clicked and for although I wasn’t particularly inclined,I searched up the trailer. I’ve seen some of League’s animated music videos before and they all look great but that alone didn’t compel me to watch this. Something clicked when I saw the trailer, maybe it was the colours I don’t know but there was something drawing me to the show. I watched the first couple of episodes and by then I was hooked. From the third episode on I made sure to watch it only at night on TV with the lights off to get that sweet theatre experience. And boy was it amazing! Frickin masterpiece! Top 3 greatest animated shows of ALL TIME, and this is with anime included!

For me it looked like it was dropping frames and I thought I'd hit some kind of memory limit or the player itself was glitching. But I really enjoyed the content as everytime I watch one of these 'analysis' videos on Arcane I get something new pointed out to me I hadn't caught before. In this case it was the use of color and clarity to establish location and the fact that the 'camera' was never still. In another it was pointed out that they went so far as to 'dirty' the camera lens with dust, blood, mud or water droplets to convey there was an actual camera there.

I think you as an artist giving your thoughts on the "art and animation" techniques that you observed in a piece of animated content you watch is terrific. For me, what makes your "review" of Arcane so unique is that you talk about it from an artist perspective. You talk about techniques that you believe the showrunners and their team utilized in the making of their show and as a viewer who loves animation and is also interested in the making of it, that's the kind of input and perspective I'd like to hear. That's actually why I clicked on this video. I always watch your tech for artists content but for me, I was intrigued to hear your thoughts on the animation of Arcane and how it was made from your views. This is a very long winded way of me trying to say that I would love to see you do more videos like this. On the topic of the dark parts- I've always loved the dark pieces of fiction, but I've also hate fiction that I would describe as "grimdark". And I think the dividing factor between what I like and what I don't is beauty. Some shows are dark and gritty and violent and never let up and never give you a break, even for a second. What I love about arcane is that it showed amazing, asthetic parts of its world, even in the depths of the undercity. tl;dr: please do more reviews of shows that are digital art in motion (BLAME!, DotA, etc.). HELL BRAD... feel free to do reviews where art is involved at all (manga, comics, anime, etc). I'm here for it! I was hardcore watching your vids right up until I took your advice and bought an iPad 2021 and Procreate. I stopped watching your vids after that because I feel I got the best hardware and software on the market for digital drawing and I just didn't care about what Samsung, Huion, etc were doing since I had the best. After that if it wasn't a vid dealing with software for PC or the iPad... i just wasn't interested. That's not a knock against you but if I feel I own a lambo reviews of a Prius or Ford just don't hold the same luster. I wanted 'one device to rule them all' and I feel I have that. BUT... I still really like your energy, your personality, and your artistic insight. So vids like this... they give me a reason to come to really come back an be a Brad fanboy all over again. I get to see what a digital artist I really respect (you) think about a show that literally looks like concept art come to life. While I wouldn't mind more of a general review, I did absolutely love your artistic insights like use of color, detail, and composition. There's no other reviewer that I know of that has critiqued a show like that AND has your level of authority. Also even though I thought season 1 of The Witcher was okay, I gave up on ep2 of season 2. The season 1 recap SUCKED and I had no idea what was going on.

The mature themes gone wild shows (like GOT) not only distract me from the story, they are deeply disturbing to me. Almost giving me nightmares. It ruins an otherwise great story for me. Done well like Arcane, it would enhance the story IMO. My adult kids think I’m just out of touch. This review probably won’t change that. Thanks though!

It's like acknowledging that it is in fact animation, everything there has been drawn and painted, they're not flesh&bones people and those are not real life buildings. I'm growing weary of all the ultra-real design in animation.
