Post-World War II industrial boom brought mass car production which made cars suddenly affordable for many people. Car thus became the symbol of the post war era. Many cars on the road led to construction of roads and highways and the cities have adapted their infrastructure to them. Not to people, and neither to pedestrians.
The problems caused by cities’ adaption to cars not only bears upon the cities like Los Angeles, but also upon Bratislava. Due to prioritizing cars Bratislava has evolved to city not suitable for pedestrians or cyclists. The complicated permitting process, which pushes new real estate developments to Bratislava’s suburbs, causes another pressure on city’s infrastructure.
What is the solution and how building sidewalks and bike paths can make Bratislava better place for living?
