Definitely a Latino thing. I’m PR and my mom had these wooden clogs and she could throw one with the precision of a major league pitcher. I’d rather get hit by my dad. We Latinos learned to respect, the Chankla. It has powers. It made us tough. It taught us respect. It would go around corners. It had boomerang action.

When I used to box, the gym I was at was all Mexicans. Every sparring session was brutal. It's like a fucking deathmatch. I would go home with bruised shoulders, scraped up face, bruises, and a fat nose almost every time. The advantage I had was that I was taller than most of my opponents, so I could land some good combinations at distance, and I could go toe to toe too, but these guys keep coming thru jabs, uppers, straights and whatever else. I trained with the coach's daughter once, I just jabbed her and kept my distance but she was relentless and fast. Must have been around 13 years old. They're just tough. I'm of Guatemalan blood, nothing but love for my Mexican brothers and sisters. Got a great history of extraordinary fighters. Eric Morales is my all time favorite. One of my Mexican friends once asked me "what part of Mexico are ur parents from?" I said they're Guatemalan. He goes "oooooh..... u guys eat black beans huh?" I can say its 100% true. Mexicans are tough but I just think that there are warriors and cowards in every individual race. It's up to the individual.
@brianregan755 жыл бұрын
Yes very true. But I also think the social aspect plays an important role as well. Just like with African Americans or any group of people considered on the lower ranks of society ,Mexicans (because of the struggle to survive in a hostile environment )develop a strong sense of will and fortitude to persevere and hopefully thrive against all odds. These societal pressures contribute to producing those rare diamonds like Ruiz, Velasquez or Ferguson and to excel in the fighting game. I think the bigger the percentage of struggling people within a certain group the more you will see of them if they “make it”. So although many groups and nationalities have their share of tough individuals the fact that many more Mexicans on average are “struggling “ just to get on their feet (which gives them that fight or die mentality ) makes them more visible as a tough people. Where other groups who are already established and comfortable economically might be considered “soft” in some respects. Ultimately It’s that human hunger that makes you tough. That hunger to survive and thrive.

I think its genetics. Mexicans are great workers. Functional tactile activities is just something I've seen in my personal work experience Mexicans are phenomenal and above average at. As well as just being incredibly smart with how to do things effectively. The consistency, endurance, longevity, and efficiency is something I've always noticed. I work with 50 plus year old mexican lady that keeps up with me at work in her respective activity its wild. And I'm a 6 2 200 pound man who works out regularly. I believe mexican fighters bring a intense work ethic to combat in a detailed way that's fundamental heavy and it's all about efficiency, endurance, pace as a weapon, and awareness of their own body in space that's more keener that your average person. And its not like they arent athletes they are. But they're athletic abilities are like the attributes of phenomenal workers, and they apply it well to combat. The stereotypical mexican combat athlete attributes, out work you plus super economical movement is the ultimate combination of physical attributes for combat.

The name says a lot. Mexican comes from the word Mexica (Meshica) named after a primary deity called Huitzilopochtli, the god of war. Huitzilopochtli is the image in the center of the Aztec calendar. (Dualism with Tonatiuh) Like the Sioux, the term Aztec was used by their enemies but Meshica is a more accurate term. In conclusion, Mexicans are children of the god of war but like in every culture, you have some really amazing fighters who enjoy going forward to do battle.

But America went through in the late 1800s in the southwest and during the prohibition era. As far as fighting style. Mexicans have a certain aggressive fighting style but it comes with its flaws. I’m Mexican myself so I watched Mexican fighters since I was young. Since Julio Cesar Chavez in the early 90s, they focus more on attacking and moving forward and advancing and less on defense. I think when fighters like Canelo get past their prime they won’t be able to take shots to the face and body as easily. We already saw that with Nate vs Masvidal and nganou and Cain.

The Aztec culture was based on ability in combat. The best warriors got the best woman and made stronger babys. For what I was thought in Mexican history back in Mexico was that our ancestors used to run from village to village covering large portions of land. If you look at boxing world records, many Mexicans are on top regarding endurance. Of course, stamina is one of the most important attributes to have. Mexicans body frame is also tater for boxing since we don’t have too much muscle increasing our stamina and resistance. Edit, I almost forgot about culture. You are going to encounter very few Mexicans being bullied because that is not on our blood. In my humble opinion, Ricardo Lopez is the greatest Mexican boxer I've ever seen and one of the top five pound for pound fighters in boxing history. He wasn't overly athletic but he had natural quickness and very high boxing IQ, great defense, awesome counter-punching, his ring generalship was a 9/10 and he had one punch ko power with either hand. It's a shame he doesn't get the recognition nowadays for fighting everybody of note in his divisions and retiring undefeated. Imo he was Nacho Beristain's greatest fighter. He retired 51-0-1 with 38 ko's. He passed down his style to Juan Manuel Marquez, who should also be mentioned among the greatest Mexican fighters. But in the 90's, if you bought a Don King PPV then you were privileged enough to watch that man fight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2LUm4eGnMSij9k

The reason is slow twitch muscles. Mexicans and other Latin countries have the highest percentage of slow twitch muscle fibers than any other group in the world. These muscles are great for endurance sports like marathons, cycling and especially boxing. There’s also the low amount of the APOE4 allele (which increases the risk of brain damage and Alzheimer’s). This let’s Mexicans recover from head injuries faster and take more hits. It’s actually a really interesting topic

And the high altitudes of a lot of Latin countries is definitely a huge benefit

I honestly always thought this was just a me thing but I guess not. I’m fully mexican and know what theyre talking about. When I pace myself well in the beginning of anything I always end up being much stronger in the end. I didn’t start wrestling until my junior year and picked up pretty easily and always started matches a bit slow then picked up the pace later. I was always a third period wrestler and I was successful. Crazy to think its in my blood.

México is a country of highlands, mountains. México City is +2000m over sea level. At this altitude there is 30% less oxigen than in sea level zones. When you are a mexican athlete and travel to low lands you don't get tired. After thousands of years most mexicans have developed this exceptional endurance, it is genetic.
