Thanks for the video, and bringing some clarity... Been looking quite a while and seen both ends of the spectrum- completely restored and completely rusted with barely a shell left.

Hey bb - i -purchased a sweet 1974 15 window brazilian kombi - the vw purists poo poo the brazilians and i gotta tell you that the purist thing is all bs - the brazilians are sweet rides - for some reason they have very little to no rust - they are almost all 15 window which with a german birth certificate is 60k - screw that unless you are rich - you can pic up brazilians for a fraction of germans and you will have just as much fun, get just as many head turns and thumbs up and still have a bunch of money left to invest some where else to make more money - and finally as time goes on they will also rise in value as they will always be affordable - see you on the road -
@Mikefngarage7 жыл бұрын
yea the Brazilians are different. The window sizes are not the same on the pop outs from what I hear many of the parts do not interchange. So you need to have a Brazilian parts connection for the stuff that breaks. Recently we were having trouble getting parts from Brazil. Dont remember the specifics but something about import export issues with Brazil. Would definately keep that in mind when getting a brazilian bus. Some other issues as well.

My favourite is the 11 window (small rear window) 👍
@stevelozano95234 жыл бұрын
Back in the 90s, I use to have a '57 11 window which had odd options. Middle rear view on the center vent (not on the usual center post of the windshield) and a blower motor underneath the bus for the heater vents. Miss it. 😫

TBH the 11 Window Kombi is probably the boring pick of the bunch and besides windows is exactly the same as a Panel van to drive, go to a show and there a 4 11 window Kombis to every other variation. In my opinion a good single cab, double cab or panel is the pick.

I buyed a 65 panel van. Ugly, rusted, many parts missing. Engine is ok. And yes, is noisy. Pretty, pretty noisy. (Its so difficult to drive her) So, why I did this? 1. I want a vw split bus. 2. Its price was five hundred bucks. Regards from Venezuela.

Just like the value guides, it’s just that a guide. There is no hard and fast rule when it comes to an individual buyer as their value may be sentimental for a particular model and would be worth more to them. When you use the term desirable, there is no hard and fast rule when sentimental or their “desire” is greater than your own. This is what makes a market and why you may think it’s not worth as much as someone else. Condition and missing parts of course effect an actual restoration value.

I have to agree I owned a panel and the noise level was obnoxious traded it an on the hunt for nice complete mostly og standard

I use to drive carpet cleaning vans. They had no windows in the back. I use the mirrors. I could back it up no problem. Theses old busses if original are not going to drive like new cars.
@Mikefngarage6 жыл бұрын
yea true I drive bucket trucks and there are no windows in the back. Except the original mirrors on these busses are so small and impossible to see out of with the vibration. they are positioned so it is really hard to see out of. Gotta drive one then you will know what I am talking about.

Of course, I learn this after I buy my beauties ! Dlx missing middle and rear seats, not sure about clock, but that has to be missing...the 11 window was missing middle and top back of rear...IDK... Friend of mine Bob said sell the deluxe, the cost so much to restore...he said to restore his

Don’t agree about the panel vans, yep harder to drive yep noisier but look much cooler if done right and all my years in owning classic cars cool most the time over rides the ride !! i have a huge expensive collection and less than half are a great ride and most of these are my most expensive, in the van world windowless rules over windows, i just made the deduction to restore my 59 van over my 63 11 window because i know what’s going to attract attention and be worth more.

I don't think I will ever own a splitty but it's all good cuz I got a bay and even though all the haters out there don't accept us my bus kicks ass and many are starting to realize it so the bays are gaining popularity. So I glad I got mine when I did before the price started going up on them.
@Mikefngarage7 жыл бұрын
well the bays certianly drive better than splits. More fun for camping when you gotta drive there. I dont see anything wrong with that.
@SanDiego_VDubLife7 жыл бұрын
Mike F yeah I've never driven a splitty so wouldn't know but the camping aspect is for sure fun. The tent on my weary is all ripped up so don't really use it. I just like the bed and experience itself. Need a new tranny and engine block right now so it will be a few years maybe before I get it driving

A ‘61 Special order westfalia is a cool and fairly rare bus,but you go on about how much the parts cost on deluxe buses making them that much more expensive..ok let’s not exaggerate too much - you don’t mention barndoor buses and that OG paint is more desirable as a rule. If you added 2 more windows it doesn’t equate to higher sale price it would be a modified bus and sell for less than before you modified it . What about binz D.C. barndoor single cabs. A bus that’s had loads of new panels even if the metal work was done to high standard is worth less than a bone dry bus with all factory metal.. Low production figures with rare factory options do sell for more than higher production models with less options. Obviously this is only my opinion but I wouldn’t go putting two more window apertures in my bus and think I’d added value that’s nuts.
