What Makes Rowing Inspirational is a motivational short film made by BentleyNuts.. We followed the Bath University's 1st Novice Boat at BUCS 2012 (Nottingham). This video contains the build up and the actual race with onboard cameras to get right in with the action!
The boat was the Novice men 1st Boat - Rowing at BUCS
What I was trying to portray in this video was the preparation, anticipation and the thrill you get from rowing in competition. The thrill is made by trying to be the best and when you are the best, the feeling is unforgettable! Also, I tried to make this video as inspirational as possible to inspire people to start rowing or any other sport!

Novice banter. It's a good thing there are people out there such as yourself prepared to coach and not criticise to help them improve!

Gosh, if 8 of the numerous experts below were put together in a boat, we'd have a new world record crew.

I started as this year (16 sophmore in HS) I am a swimmer so we don't really have a muscular body. You'd be surprised how much you use your legs. Its 70%legs 20%back and 10%arms. Placed 1st in our first in our novice 8 regattas meet today!

While I'm pretty good, and square with inside hand only it's worth pointing out that Stan Louloudis squares with both.

buuut... stan louloudis trained at our school (we even have a boat named after him...) and we are all taught to only square with the inside. he squares with both when the oar is slippery, such as in rainy weather, or when he has to. not before.

You should, rowing is not only about strengh, it's also about technic. And if you have a good technic, during your training, you will quickly get the good muscular build. I hope for you that you will have good coaches, in a friendly club with good mates, serious during training and cool after. 15 is not old to start rowing if you are determinated. On of my coach started rowing at 14 and 3 years after she finished 4th at the world championship. Believe in what you do, follow the orders and win.

Hey, sorry for not replying to this sooner. I'm 6.3 but not very built, the muscular aspect is the easy part, developing and improving upon your rowing technique will be the difficult thing.

Five man was out of time quite a lot, pretty much all of the crew were flicking their wrists at the finish, catches weren't very good, especially from 3, a lot of power seemed to be put down, however the rushed slide meant that they killed the speed. A lot of the crew were not being dominant with their outside shoulder, using Croker blades when concepts are better, apart from that, good job!

Tom Clarke New rower here. I agree with everything you said, except for “flicking their wrists at finish.” Unless I’m mistaken, that feather should be immediate, almost one movement with lifting the blade out of the water. Id love to hear your thoughts?
