What makes Taeyong a perfect center?

When someone says “center of nct” most people would probably immediately think of Taeyong. This immediately tells you just how impactful Taeyong is with his center position, charisma, and dancing skills.
The center position is a quite coveted position within kpop groups, but it is a lot more challenging position from what most people think, when they demand more center time for their biases. NCT especially is a big group with intense choreographies. It requires strength, charisma, and attitude to lead the performances of such a group, but Taeyong excels at it. This is because Taeyong not only is a main dancer but also because he has that extra spice that is needed for the center position: charisma and stage presence, flair for theatrical details, ability to change choreography for different stages, core strength that allows him to do impressive dance moves. Oh, and you probably cannot mention Taeyong without mentioning his insane stage presence and facial expressions. And even for dance practices, Taeyong never slows down or let's his danceing be boring.
All this helps command attention, which is exactly what the center needs to do. It is the center who should lure new people into stanning the group. And Taeyong excels at this job, often considered nctzens’ first bias, as he made them interested in the group. That is the true power of a center/face of the group. Among fans there is even a saying that Taeyong doesn’t even stand center as much as people think, because his impactful performance and dance draws people’s attention and tricks them into thinking he stood center, even though he didn’t for a lot of the parts. Taeyong’s fans even made up the word “centeritus” as a word to describe how much Taeyong stands out on stage, in videos, or in photos.

i think another thing that makes him a perfect center is his awareness of the other members and just his "in the moment"-ness in general. he oftentimes notices when others slip or make a mistake if it's anywhere in his field of vision, and he himself covers up mistakes, slips, wardrobe malfunctions etc. so flawlessly that i oftentimes don't even notice them unless someone points it out and/or the moment is played in slow motion. examples: the many times his monitor fell out, the time he removed both shoes mid-performance and did the cherry bomb drop in SOCKS for christ's sake, the times when they performed on a slippery stage and you can see him subtly checking how the others are holding up, that time during a 2019 gayo when he had a pretty hard fall but still played it off with no hesitation. although sometimes i get worried about this too, the fact that he seems to prioritize the perfect performance over his own health...taeyong, stay safe and healthy please :,-) in conclusion: taeyong might have been chosen as the center by sm in the beginning, but since then he has proven 10000 times that he more than deserves that positon!

Oh you're right, I have seen Haechan looking at Taeyong in this, for example in behind the scenes of the music video of gimme gimme for the dance brake. Great video. For me what makes Taeyong so impressive is the perfect balance of charisma and skill which he has. He knows how to engage the audience through his facial expressions and his creativity in his dancing and natural groove just makes him impossible to miss. For me, a lot of the times he doesn’t even need to be in the center to capture my attention and I can’t say that for a lot of idols. He IS the center wherever he is.

Not only does he more than qualify as center but there's vids showing him creating choreo, teaching rapping methods, showing win-win how to execute a dance move, leading dance practices. Even Ji-sung (NCT dream), confirming Taeyong teaching them how to practice dance with lights out in order to focus on what part of their body needs more "power," applied when making a dance move....This man's role in NCT is heavy and he makes it appear like it's a piece of cake... that's professional stuff right there...(off topic)...stay "Alert" Nctzens!!! Taeyong was only an ordinary teenager but with his hard work for 3 years (?) he became a top-tier idol who has complete package, can sing, rap, dance, write lyrics, compose, arrange, acting, has model quality, fashion stylish, kind personality, you can see that he actually learned really hard, usually although certain idols can debut with hard work rather than natural talent but I think we can see that these idols still have weaknesses that can be seen and analyzed that's why we often say "oh he/she is improving", "oh, his/her stage presence is better" and all that but Taeyong is not an idol who being called "better" in each performance or comeback but he is "the best" since the beginning, he can cover his shortcomings very tightly so no wonder at first maybe we won't believe that he had no particular talent and will think that he born with talent. Taeyong has an excellent understanding of the requirements of a successful performance. Although he was cast for his looks he has indeniable creative and leading talents. He has the urge to express himself through different channels: fashion, drawing, choreographing, writing. He would be an excellent producer in my opinion both musically and visually and definitely a good team manager or teacher has well even if producer fits him more to make good use of the creative side in addition to the leading/encouraging/caring one. I just fear for his future as a dancer due to his hyperlaxy.
