DGT owner for the last two years. I've played Strats, Tele's and this is my fourth PRS. Hands down I have to say first is the neck shape, most comfortable guitar I've ever played. (Other PRS's include a Custom 22, 594 and Silver Sky). The pickups are so versatile, as you demonstrated here. Not to mention I'm a huge Grissom fan as well. Always enjoy your content!

My favourite and my gigging guitar is my 2000 PRS Custom 22 with the Dragon pups and my 2018 PRS Silver Sky as well. I am waiting for a PRS DGT SE to be ready after not being happy with the core model. Different strokes etc. cos we’re all so different… thank goodness. Thanks for your work Leon.

I have the SE version of your guitar and it’s great especially for gigging when I don’t want to take out my expensive guitars. There are so many available tones that makes playing a covers gig so much easier. The DGT is the only PRS I’ve ever been interested in as it definitely has its own thing going on compared to the rest of the range.

Yep, I got a DGT for exactly the point of adding the second volume control. I played for about 50 years without moving the knobs off 10, but a few years ago I was editing video of a great local guitar player, and he played a 335 with both coils, but constantly adjusting the volume controls. Then I discovered that rolling the neck off about 20% really sweetens the tone. My upcoming project is to modify a Strat (with Kinman noiseless pickups). I'm going to convert it to Brian May style pickup controls (3ea on/off an 3ea phase reversal), but also I'll omit the tone control and use the three knobs for individual volume controls. Should be interesting. ... And yes, the DGT is a magical guitar. I like it so much that I haven't changed the heavy strings yet.

I was saving up for a '59 Epiphone Les Paul but now I'm considering a DGT SE. Which should I get? I don't really need the trem, I was initially wanting a hard tail bridge Les Paul, something to give me that classic tone, but the more I hear the DGT the more I like the sound. Very vintage sounding. I thought I was going to need a hard tail for that, but it doesn't seem like having a trem on the DGT affects its tone as much as I expected.

Sounds like my LP or dot with the coil split and the neck rolled back. That "less desirable" sound reminds me of slash. And boosted just sounds the same on my phone 😂 I'd quite like a dgt, but can't afford it which is why I've modded the guitars I have. Missing the trem tho. (And they're both really old and need new frets)

The backed-off neck volume thing is my favourite mid-position humbucker sound. Wound back just enough to bring in that 'mid peak' tone. Having just got me an SE DGT I'll have to examine it's uses with Split Mode.

Theres a really cool trick u can do with 2 vol 2 tone that i guess DG doesn't care for, but if u put the switch in the middle position, bridge vol and tone on full, neck vol on 3 and neck tone on 0, u get this cool "warmer bridge" tone, u can try it if u have a les paul

That is a cool feature and you’re right when split all the mid/upper mids and highs are retained versus in full HB. Dave and PRS spent a good bit of time perfecting that guitar. I own a 2001 McCarty, 2010 Swamp Ash 513 and 2016 CU24 with rosewood neck and ebony fretboard. They’re all my favorites.😉 However, if I had the money a DGT or Modern Eagle V would be serious contenders for my $$. From what I can tell the SE DGT is a crazy deal and nice guitar. Although after seeing your core DGT vids I would have to go for it.👍

Just got the DGT SE model, fantastic guitar. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul with coil taps, and blending the two pickups tapped on either guitar can give you an incredible wide variation of tones. I've found some really cool Page style tones (especially on the Epi LP), kind of clean but still with a some bite and growl that cuts through. Also, love the bit of "Rock Bottom" you threw in there, loved the "Strangers in the Night" album when I was a teen, hugely inspirational to me when I was first learning.

Totally agree - I think the DGT may be the best product in the range (although I also really like the Tremonti). Have not yet tried a 594 though. Personally I own a DGT Standard (all mahogany) from a limited run they did about 10 years ago or so. That's the guitar everyone compliments me on when they hear it (it looks totally unassuming).

David Grissom often uses the tapped sound for his rhythm and then pops it into humbucker mode for leads for that little bit more depth.

Hello my friend! Love, love, love, the DGT.. Even the SE version is probably one of the best deals going now for a guitar.. I also love the Ibanez AZ models which are a huge departure from their shred guitars, but have great features like stainless frets, thicker necks, moderate output pickups, etc. I've been doing that kinda switching with an LP for a long time.. I'm building a strat now (Trying to, but been busy with surgeries and parents) and it has two emg humbuckers, but eventually I'll get a new pickguard and buy a single coil for the neck. I love Humbuckers in the bridge and single coils in the neck. Great video brother.. Love the guitar.. Very cool and that finish is killer.. Will you be gigging it? Or just a recording at home enjoyment axe? I have gas for one bad, but I'm trying to be a minimalists lately because in the 90's I went over board when I worked and made great money in the IT business and it was not even decent. 😛 Will you be gigging that axe? It would be a great backup or even main guitar along with your single cut PRS. I know that's your fav axe.. I'm going to get EVO gold frets put on my Singe cut Barney, and have it painted professionally a purple sparkle on the body I think.. At least the front of it.. Maybe with a big eye graphics.. 😛 Have a great day my friend and even better week.. Hope you record your gig at Melbourne. I bet it takes some travel time to get there from Perth. I know people don't realize how big of a country Australia is. HUGE! Be safe and well, and sorry for all the wordy comments.. I just can't help myself in the AM after drinking strong coffee.. 😛

Been waiting for this one! I love the DGT. Even though I don’t use trem bars very much, I’d love one of these. The pickups are very unique, they sound very single coil-ish, even in humbucker mode, always clear and defined. By the way, have you got any Telecasters, Leon? Never saw you playing one, that should be interesting. Love the channel. Cheers, brother.

I have an SE DGT, just got it a few weeks ago as i couldnt quite stretch to a Core one at the moment. I'm absolutely buzzing about the neck pickup, it might be the best I've ever heard. And you nailed it about the range of tones you can get between backing off the volume, playing with the tone knob and the coil split. Can definitely see me "upgrading" to a Core model one day

You probably know this already but Dave Grissom got the idea for the two volume controls by observing how much tonal variation Jimmy Page could get simply by fiddling with the volume mix between the two pickups on his Les Paul - an unusual source of inspiration for Grissom - love that guy, a true Texan gentleman and all round humble, nice guy....

The one thing I wish my 408 had is the second volume control, so I could do exactly what you demonstrated. It's not a problem with my S2 single cut semi hollow. Even though I've had the S2 for years, I still can't get used to the volume control layout.
