He and my wife are both blissfully unaware of the bromance Ive had with David for the past 3 decades or so. I absolutely love his guitartistry and he’s easily in the top 10 players that I’d like to have a dinner and conversation with. They’re all great, Tim, but this was a particularly great episode for me, brother.

I've gotten to Austin a few times for that gig and it's is totally worth it. Magnificent sound and playing and always great band. As noted, Carter is badass as well. Got to hear trio with Glenn Fukunaga in room with PA only for vocals and it was as great an amp in room sound as I've ever heard.

Mike Bruns i met carter when he first moved to austin for the UT jazz program 20 years ago. Im about 18 yrs older than him but we hit it off and he used to invite me to these house jams off campus the jazz program people would throw-even back then carter was amazing. i rarely played at those jams cuz i was out of my depth but carter was kind enough to invite me. He recco’d me to sub for another thing he couldnt do as well. just a great guy. watching his playing develop over the years has been incredible. to see him throwing down with grissom without breaking a sweat was killer.

I have to thank you for an awful lot, but I'll keep it as short as possible. I played in bands in the 70's and 80's. I stopped when I got injured and needed metal in my spine to hold it together. Got bad advice from a bad doctor and was on opioids for 28 years. I decided I needed to quit the pain meds and start playing again. Went through two years of horrible sickness until I finally got the right doctor and got detox meds. During the bad time I wanted to get back to playing really bad. I was always the rhythm guitarist back then and decided I wanted to learn new stuff like leads I hadn't tried before. While I was so sick, I got through it by searching youtube for videos that would help me. I went throu8gh a lot of videos, and eventually the algorhythms led me to you, Pete Thorn, Rick Beato, Phi X and some more. You remind me a lot of the old jazz cats. I grew up in jazz. My dad was Red Kelly, a noted jazz bassist. All those cats were like you. Cool temperaments and just nice guys all around. The bigger they were, the nicer they were. I met every A-lister in the 50's through the 70's because of my dad. And you reminded me of those times, when I was most comfortable in life. So I watched all of your videos that came up and even looked some up. They got me through the toughest times I've been through in y life. I'd even bet they are tougher than most go through, but even then I am sure some people had it worse. But thanks man. And now I will finally be starting the right doses of detox meds this week. I'll soon be able to play again, and I can't wait. I've dog-eared all your videos to help with that. Pete has been a lot of help, too. And Phil X just reminds me of me when I was younger so you are all a blast to watch. Those videos probably kept me alive. Bo kidding, and not trying to be overly dramatic, but the last doctor I saw told me I could have died being taken off those meds cold turkey like that. (I told her it felt like I was dying, but what could I do? Too sick to do anything about it and I live alone.) But I got through it so far, and it's a big thanks to you and the guys, but especially you. I will end this with a video of my dad playing bass just so you can see where I came from. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed your videos. kzbin.info/www/bejne/enixgIGBn613jsU

Great guitar tim! congrats! i have a McCarty 594. i was sitting here playing it thru a timmy into a boing reverb pedal into my morgan sw22 while watching the DG interview :) everytime i put the PRS McCarty down for a few days to play some of my other guitars--which are all very nice, mind you--then i go back to the McCarty, I'm reminded all over again why these guitars are so frickin good. anyhoo--got to see DG at the saxon in austin a couple times before i moved. amazing shows. but wanted to hip you to a killer player who played regularly with DG at many of those shows as DG's guitar sparring partner: Carter Arrington. Absolute monster strat player with chops for days--but tasty as hell. Carter plays any style of music at a deep level--yeah, he's one of those guys. Seeing them work off each other was magic. Carter has a recent course on Truefire, as well. He's a wonderful guy and a phenomenal musician who deserves wider recognition. Ask DG about Carter and maybe you could have him on for an interview? I bet your subs would love him. Cheers!

Grissom is great. I really liked his sound, and didn't want a Gibson when I started playing again, so I took a chance on a beat-up gold top DGT, and love its feel, and its sound. It's got that late 50s Les Paul sound, then somewhere between a Tele and a Strat with the pickups tapped. And, the big frets make the 11s feel like 10s but give it some real guts. I'd also always wanted a nice cherryburst and later found a very pretty 10-top which is equally fun to play. My friends lust over them both. As far as Grissom's playing, nothing beats hearing him live where he can turn it up. He is the artist in residence at the Saxon Pub in Austin, which is a good sized club, most of the video footage is from there. Rumor is the Saxon is closing though. We saw him twice there... what a sound.
