This is a great teaching project. Allows the rookie to gain experience with a coal forge, handle the tongs properly, and actually apply the hammer to the metal. Good instruction with a student who is willing to try and learn. With practice comes confidence and success with your metal works. This is an excellent setting for one-on-one instruction and learning. Priceless memories being forged here.

A terrific tutorial on techniques of basic smithing! The comparison to moving steel like clay by pushing forward with the hammer is great. Thank you.

I agree with the safety concerns here in the comments ! You should have worn your sandals, everyone knows that rubber boots will melt ! 🤔

not if they're real rubber... the sandals are plastic... and open!

recycling and repurposing available metal... now that's a homesteader's survival skill, Jason!... Master this skill... steel has a soul, just like wood does...and you already know wood... next thing, learn how to make charcoal... then maybe turn it to black powder... the road never ends... have fun at it!
