I'm very lucky to have an '81 SA2000S and it's something that almost defies description. Beautifully made, looks sensational, and glorious to play. If you look hard you can often find them at very sensible prices. Pity I can't play like you!

I had an SA2000 years ago, I traded it in against a Gibson 335 and couldn't have regretted the decision more, as the Gibson wasn't even remotely in the same class. Always loved Yamaha electrics, they don't get anywhere near the credit they deserve, I have a couple of the upper end Pacificas from the first run of them and they're some of the finest guitars I've ever played.

The SA2000 was designed by John Curruthers Dan Smith and Bill Schultz while working at Yamaha in Southern California…Dan and Bill went on to work at Fender in the 80s….they also designed the SBG that Santana would use from the mid to late 70s before he went to PRS

Awesome thanks so much , it’s funny I do some research and I try to put these ideas out there and then folks who know more than me ,of which there are many ,end up schooling me on these things it’s happened on all of the posts all the videos. Thanks so much for the info.

Beautiful playing and a great history of the instrument. I lived in Japan for a time and I remember the challenge of remembering what year it was -- especially when calculating things like "how many years ago was that" when it crossed the time that the emperor changed!

Dear Allen I hope you fully recover soon, but give your body time to heal, go really easy on the physical activity, eat light. Thank you for your videos and unveiling another gem. I am also a big fun of the top Japanese guitars of that period. Proper seasoned wood no longer around now and exquisite craftsmanship. I wish you all the best

It is the guitar of choice for Swedish guitar legend Georg "Jojje" Wadenius of Blood Sweat & Tears fame. And oohh...he was in the SNL band and played with Steely Dan, Diana Ross and Luther Vandross as well. Gr8 guitar! 🇸🇪

I got a 1980 SA2000 shortly after watching this. Got it off of a vintage dealer friend in Dayton, Ohio. It is mint. Looks like it was built yesterday. Fantastic guitar. Buy the way. They’ve gone up quite a bit now. A good clean one is about $2400-$2800 now. I love you playing and really enjoy your KZbin stuff…

Hi Allen, I've owned a heap of Japanese 335 style semi's over the past 40 years. Ibanez, Tokai, Greco but haven't had the pleasure of owning one of these Yamaha's. My favourite is the Greco SA1200 from around 1980 which definitely knocks spots off anything from the Gibbo Custom Shop. Greco and Ibanez archtops from the late 70s early 80s period are especially nice. Notably the Ibanez Johnny Smith copy. All still a bargain compared to their US made counterparts.

I have an old SA800 which is a great 335 style guitar which I got super cheap. I like it as much as any Gibson I've had. I used to have a SA2100 which was very similar to the SA2200. A friend has a SA2000s with the spruce top, it's a great guitar. Yamaha made some great stuff over the years that are somewhat overlooked. Someone once said, do musicians really want a logo on their guitar that is the same as on their lawnmower or motorcycle? I really like the Yamaha Image Standards and Weddingtons as well.

I have am a huge Yamaha SA fan! I own 3 Black SA2100's which are the next version of the SA2000 with SA2500 pickups. Also own a Taiwanese blonde SA2100 guitar as well. the 3 Japanese models are superior in my opinion. These have been my main guitars since 1998. I have played hundreds of shows with these guitars.

Cripes matey, those tones you extract from this 'Semi' are truly remarkable... ...like ringing but "beyond 'Bell' tone'..." ...plus, is there some special spatial stereo thing happ'nin' with the 'verb (?) Well I dug it, whatever it is/was...
