The whole band is unrelated. I'm still convinced Brandon Boyd is one of the best vocalists. Mike creates great riffs; just interesting music in general. Both bassists are great. Dirk is amazing. And Jose while maybe not the fastest or most technical drummer makes some of the most interesting beats I've heard in rock music, has a great groove and has a hard hitting style that reminds me of Wilk from Rage.

The drummer Jose Pasrillas is so great on this entire album! His patterns can be complex, but tasteful simultaneously. (he's pretty underrated imo) I remember when I was first learning drums, I'd play along with the this whole album through in one sitting on many occasions no problem! Thanks Rick for looking at an Incubus track!

This is great, a few years into starting electric guitar, Einzinger was super important in my growth and acted as a bridge for me into jazz and jazz fusion. I feel many guitarists my age (30) who dug into his playing and influences (also Mars Volta at the time), ended up getting into King Crimson, Belew, electric Miles era, etc. I don’t listen to Incubus all that much now but they’ll forever be an invaluable part of my foundation and growth as a musician.

Fuff Mcduffin I love “Nowhere Fast” (one of my favorite Incubus songs, if not my absolute favorite), but it seems he only does hit singles of bands with stems from Guitar Hero: World Tour. “Pardon Me” is from the same album, however, and has similar elements such as drum and bass verses with volume swelling seventh chords on guitar, wall of sound Alt-Rock chorus, etc. The “Steve Vai” rip-off bridge of “Nowhere Fast” is interesting, though.

Dave Messenheimer ‘A Certain Shade of Green’ would have been a good pick. But it’s still a relatively unknown deep Incubus track, compared to the stuff off of Make Yourself.

I knew Einziger is an absolute monster, but I never noticed it on this track until now how difficult this song is. He's using so many effects, techniques, and the timing has to be absolutely perfect at times.

Your content is so good and I'm so pleased to see my fave bands represented. If you ever revisit incubus, I'd love to hear 'the warmth' broken down. Keep up the great work and fascinating content. Like someone else had said, it's like rediscovering the songs again. And that eureka moment when you notice things you've never noticed on your previous hundreds of listens is incredible!

Awesome! I'm honestly not even a huge Incubus fan, but I do have a nostalgic attachment to their first 2 albums from when I was in high school in the late 90s, and I always really liked this song. It's odd but catchy and interesting. I've never remotely delved into this band's particular songwriting habits and theories....so this one should be interesting and illuminating. This series is by far my favorite thing Rick does. Can't wait to hit play. :D

I love how people say after morning view the band went down hill. Some even before that. These are the same people that would complain that all their songs sound the same if they kept remaking SCIENCE over and over. The band got older and evolved. Most of the people that say this also do not buy the full albums. Light Grenades was a great album. Rogues is one of my favorite songs by them. Put your elitism down and just enjoy music!

I saw Incubus live maybe 8 years ago and it was easily one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. They had their set dialed in beautifully and I was fortunate enough to have some of the best seats in the house. They sounded incredible.

Could you please do Beck next? He is often looked over as a stoner rocker or the guy who did Loser but he is probably one of the most eclectic musicians of the last 20 years. He's done everything from folk, country, blues to rock, hip hop, funk, electronic. Also has written one of the best breakup albums of all time in Sea Change.

I vote for the always good 'loser' (his first BIG hit) or 'Devil's Haircut' would be awesome as it's a simplistic chord progression reiterated into an oblivion of awesomeness, Plus that over emphasized snare sound in the mix is killer, or he could possibly do something more offbeat, like 'beautiful way' or 'Debra'...although given the ridiculous context of 'Debra'....I think 'Loser' or 'Devil's Haircut' would be better suited to the WMTSG series, lol.

Rick, I love your enthusiasm with how that chorus always comes back in so clean, crisp and hard on the and of 4. and the drums emphasizing "3 and a 4" in the chorus riffs. This song is really well put together , and the way you break it down is scratching my musical itch. This song is a really underestimated banger. It came out when I was 23 and I fell in love with this album !!!! Sang it drunk a million times. "The Warmth" on this album is another fav of mine. Loved incubus since the very first time I heard "New Skin" off their Science album. Very talented bunch of guys. Wish they would come out with another album with a little more of that heavy youthy angst they used to have LOL great lyrics , great vocals , great band. ...............just found you on you tube recently Rick, good stuff man!
