Has anyone ever lost money on MSFT? Set it and forget it. Keep it simple

MSFT had a "lost decade" starting in 2000 as the tech bubble burst and Ballmer took over as CEO. They didn't really start to turn around until 2012/2013 when they finally got out of the phone business and Satya took over. Ballmer actually did a ton of good things but little was realized until later after he was gone.

There is a lot of concern about MSFT capex spending on data center/chip buildouts for AI which may be in a bubble or the actual demand (meaning customers willing to pay a premium for AI services) may not actually show up or when the growth will show up. This is a bit like TSLA where they are not valued like a car company because of the AI overhang in regards to what autonomous driving will deliver from a revenue perspective (along with other TSLA ventures such as energy and robotics.) The stock ran up so much in 2024 in a pull back was inevitable and it will take a while to digest a few quarters to weigh what the multiple deserves to be. Personally, I'm very long MSFT but will likely sell a bit prior to year end simply because its grown to be a much larger percentage of the portfolio than what it was 10 years ago.

Good points. Taking some profits in your case probably makes sense. The idea that MSFT would get a sell rating across the board though is ridiculous in my opinion.

Good video. Sadly - Seeking Alpha publishes too many click-bait articles, not unlike the rest of the finance sites ~ though I suppose you could argue it's their point-of-view. In one week you'll see a "Microsoft is Amazing!" article, published by the same half-informed analyst.

This is the output of the new attention economy. Everything is right or wrong, with very few brave enough to offer neutral opinion on anything.
