I guessed militarized, civilian because of the headlights and gas filler location. That's as far as my flat fender knowledge goes. Fun video. Thanks Rick sharing.

Yup, bubbafied Cj2a for sure. Glad you know your stuff, very accurate info for sure. Amazing how many believe a 2a is military. Lol the spoked wheel was actually later war wheel. Early war sheller wheel was like the 2a. Mb/Gpw had tool boxes in rear wheel wells. The bumperetts are upside-down as well. Not a jeep police man, or rivet counter, but glad others know the differences in flat fenders. Keep up the good work!

If I'm not mistaken military jeeps used a full floating rear axle. This one has a semi-floating rear axle. Nonetheless it's a pretty cool piece of machinery.

My early '46 has a military front axle. The original civilian axle was obviously wrecked and replaced. There is also evidence that the axle housing had contacted the crank pulley at one time and flattened it. I straightened it and it runs true now. The rest of the Jeep is original except for the '79 Renegade wheels.

cj3b because you said the motor was original to the jeep with a cj2a body made to look like a ww2 jeep. it's an easy way to upgrade the chassis, motor and drivetrain in earlier flatfenders but personally i like cj3b's better.

My 'short answer' when asked of mine is "this and that" or "a flatfender". Mine (straight titled as a '46) has a steel repop body with MB/GPW glove box opening, otherwise unique dash, 'pioneer tool' dimples on passenger side, tailgate, no CJ2A style drain holes, 2A / 3A grille, M38 windshield frame, hopped up (Kenne Bell equipped) 225 Buick 'Odd Fire' V6 with 4 speed, T90 + Warn overdrive, fenderwell headers... . It's a Jeep.

Hello, I have a what is it Willy's myself. I bought it as a 1946 CJ-2-A. BUT, It has the Hurricane F-head engine and the silly little box on the top right side of the hood to accommodate the carb and tiny after market air cleaner. The tub is also raised one inch with square one inch metal tube blocks. I am thinking of replacing those with a home made lift kit to allow the hood to NOT have a box on top of it. I may also do hanging pedals in it. The windshield down, wood blocks were deleted and small straps of metal welded to the body and windshield frame to keep the windshield in the upright position. It has the original CJ rear bumper with a 1 7/8" ball. It also has the round cross member behind the front bumper which may have been added because a six foot wide hydralic snow blade was added when it lived in Colo. It now lives in the middle of Kansas and though we do get some snow every winter, the blade and all related parts are coming off in favor of using the Willy's as a small rock crawler/off road exploring vehicle. The original CJ wheels have been reversed and the inner tube stem hole welded andclosed with a new hole drilled on the now outside. I have a set of real magneism rims which have the Jeep and early ford lug pattern that are mounted with a set of LT-235-R-15 BFG All Terrian tires. The Willy's has a T-90 trans. No idea what the gears are but I suspect they are original. I had the engine completely rebuilt with new everything. The crank was not bad enough to go 10 under so it was just polished and micro thin brass shim material put between the rod and the new inserts. All new valves and seat in the block and head. New cam, lifters and push rods. New oil pump. New water pump. Distributor was rebuilt. New clutch and pressure plate. Resurfaced the flywheel. Radiator was rebuilt. Everything else on the engine that could be replaced, was. I still need to replace a couple of the main leaf springs as well as shackle bushings. I am not in favor of the Patina as so many people like. I will be doing some sheet metal work and a shiney paint job. Not sure of the color yet. New one piece glass. The steering wheel bakealite was mostly gone so I made a new wood ring cover for it. This allowed me to make the ring fatter for a better mor comfortable grip. I make and sell all kinds of custom Hot Rods and parts. The recovered wood wheels are popular. The first one I made is on one of my Ford 8N tractors. I will be installing a six point roll cage in the willy's with a lace on canvas top over the front seats only. No Back seat. The seats I will recovered in green canvas, same as the top ( because I bought two canvas former equipment drop parachutes to have top material for an earlier hot rod project. but the Willy's will also have red cordaroy slip covers. A few years ago I bought a one off hood ornamet cast in aluminum of a very freightened looking little man with his arms held up in front of his body like he is preparing for a crash. His eyes are wide open as well as his mouth like he is screaming. Two years ago I wrote a short story about the little guy and I named him Red Cordaroy. because someone had painted him with red cordaroy looking pants. He also has a black tee shirt with a yellow smiley face on the back. As well as black shoes. He is going to be mounted in front of the windshield of the Willy's. Gee's I kinda went over board with the comment. That's All Folks

@-oiiio-3993
@-oiiio-3993 Жыл бұрын
The 'F Head' was introduced in 1952 for the military MD (M38A1). Production of the redesigned 'Jeep' was initially dedicated to fulfilling new military contracts, so the CJ5 version was not introduced to the public until October of 1954 as a 1955 model. In the interim, a modified 'flatfender' with the new F Head engine was introduced as a 1953 model, the CJ3B, which was essentially a CJ3A with higher hood and cowl to accommodate the OHV setup. The CJ3B replaced the CJ3A (1949 - 1953) in the U.S. and sold through 1968 (and longer worldwide) alongside CJ5 models which were produced (US) through 1984. The low hood 'flatfender' with L Head (side valve) engine was still offered in the U.S. as a two wheel drive DJ3A from 1955 (as 1956 model) through 1965. Contracted production and models / dates for international sales differ.

I'd call it a FrankenJeep...lol, Looks mostly 2A, maybe a late 3B with the F head...but the glove box throws me. You have three generations of this Willys here...lol. I think all windshields were interchangeable...my 48 2A had a M38 windshield before I replaced it. I'm curious about the passenger seat removal. I'm restoring a 48 2A and the previous owner had a lot of boxes of parts, so as I'm nearing completion...the seat mounts I installed do allow for passenger seat removal. Is this just a mil Jeep option? My passenger seat is original option for the 2A, and it's removable with the "new" mounts that were in my parts boxes. Previous owner did buy a lot of "new" parts, and most are primed in olive drab so maybe he was going to go for a mil Jeep like yours.
