This is going to change the way you see the parable of the prodigal son.
What I always thought was just a story of a sinful man is actually part of something MUCH bigger…
…a very pointed message to Tax Collectors and Sinners
…to the Pharisees… and the religious leaders
And without understanding this, we are liable to miss the deeper meaning of the ENTIRE thing, something that was obvious to Jesus’ audience, but is lost on most of us - at least, it was lost on me.
Curious to know what it is?
Well then, join me for the second half of this two-part episode of Misreading Scripture!

Misreading Scripture is a series that takes common scriptures and helps you to see them with a new set of eyes. Many of these are scriptures we have been innocently misinterpreting. And once we gain insight into the culture and context of the passage, all of a sudden it becomes clear in an entirely new way.

I was Baptized Catholic and have been exposed to Jesus my whole life. Now I'm 69 and I know my time is coming. I've never understood the Bible. I always wanted to have Jesus message astound me but I could never understand the therefores and Wouldist Thous. Then last week I listened to you explaining and it seemed that Jesus was reprimanding the Apostles for not understanding and then I understood. You simplified so I could understand. Thank you

Here is more.. Jesus had a son via Mary Magdalene John 19:25-27 25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother[Mary], and his mother's sister[in-law], Mary the wife of Cleophas[mother Mary's brother], and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by[Mary Magdalene], whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy [grand]son! [in Mary Mag's womb/pregnant.] 27 Then saith he to the disciple[Mary Mag], Behold thy mother[in-law/Jesus' mother Mary]! And from that hour that disciple[Mary Mag] took her[Jesus' mother] unto his[Jesus'] own home [The home of Jesus and his now pregnant wife Mary Magdalenein a midwifing arrangement.]

Wow. Powerful revelations. What God said through Ezekiel was not just for the Pharisees. Of course His words are always for all generations. For all those who would call themselves shepherds of His flock! Especially the Catholic church today as their congregations dwindle to the droning habitual traditionalists. Powerful! “Thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my sheep at their hand and put a stop to their feeding the sheep. No longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them.” Pastors today would of course deny this passage is about them. Seek the voice of The Fathers shepherd, our Savior Jesus Christ. We know His voice. Temples are there to feed the shepherds.

The lost sheep in the parable actually represents Lucifer, the greatest sinner of all, and there will indeed be general rejoicing in Heaven when he finally makes his return. This is what Jesus wanted His parable to convey: when the prince of this world comes home, that event will give rise to particular joy in Heaven because supreme happiness will then be shared by all spirits. By means of this parable Jesus was saying one spirit in particular had sinned greatly and had been lost, but that someone had gone to search for him and had succeeded in finding him. This clearly refers to the central issue that concerned Jesus most deeply. Once, long ago, He and the 'lost spirit’ had existed together, and He knew that one day the 'lost spirit' would come back, though it would be impossible to say when that will be. It must be remembered that Lucifer still exercises considerable power: he has a great many followers, all of them ready to serve him. It will thus be a very long time before he will begin to think of going home to the Kingdom of God. If, like an ordinary sinner, he were to return in the not too distant future and so relinquish his hold over the world, then the era of eternal peace and happiness would be equally near at hand. But that is not so it lies far ahead, even though in the parable Jesus makes it seem that the one who was lost has already been found. The whole purpose of His incarnation was that the fallen spirits might be found.
@rahawa774
@rahawa774 10 ай бұрын
Completely agree with your explanation. One day Lucifer will repent and return home - and we will welcome him like a beloved brother, and all will be well!! In the meantime, we can play out this scenario in our own lives in miniature 👍

Spot on! A friend shared with me during my last trip before all the Pandemic craziness that COIN can be an acronym for “Christian Only In Name” (it works in English, maybe not necessarily the Hebrew/Greek/Aramaic intent). And we discussed during our road trip other insights we had learned about the “Lost Things” Parables. Like, the sheep just wanders off, not intentionally. The coin probably doesn’t even know that it’s lost. But then the son deliberately runs away. And maybe Yeshua (Jesus) is saying that there is hope for all of these situations.

Jesus was announced as king of Israel in that choice between Jesus and Barabbas. Quickly said, Pilot dressed Jesus up as King, Pilot presented Jesus to the Sanhedrin and high priest among the crowd as "their King". Told the crowd to choose to crucify "their King" or Barabbas. The Saducees and High Priest chose "their king" Jesus to be crucified and instigated the Jewish crowd to choose "their King" to be crucified..... and so the Priesthood anointed Jesus as their king in order for him to be executed. And Pilat published this fact above Jesus head at a time when Jerusalem was most crowded of Jews from all over the realm. What this accomplished was to legalize according to Torah law Jesus' amended covenant and make irrelevant all burdensome Talmudic rules. I think Jesus and Pilat planned it together. Neet trick on the Sanhedrin huh.

So much has been read into this parable that is not really there. The younger son never repented. He only came back because he was desperate, not because he ever came to regret the utter disrespect he had shown to his father. There is nothing in the parable that indicates the younger son's character has improved in any way. The older son is assured he is now the only son with any remaining inheritance. The father loves his younger son and the younger son is safe back at home, but the father makes it clear the younger son will never be trusted again with anything more after squandering what he had. Additionally, we should not assume the father in the parable is God. Because the father in the parable is a bad father. This father did not do a good job raising his younger irresponsible son and then bankrolled his wanton lifestyle. And the father in the parable never showed his older son love enough that the older son actually felt like a son. This father had, up until this point, treated the older son like an employee. The father in this parable actually has some regrets himself and pleads with the older son to make amends for how their relationship had ended up this way.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son is a recasting of The Odyssey: Odysseus is the Prodigal Son. when first we meet Odysseus, he is weeping. His crew had been transformed into swine and he was prevented from returning to Faithful Penelope by the Gods and Circe. The Greeks in Jesus’s audiences would have instantly recognized the comparison. If Paul had used the Parable of the Prodigal Son on Mars Hill instead of his lame “unknown god” legalism, he might have converted Athens instead of getting out of town ahead of a lynch mob. Now, I will stipulate to Parson Robbins’ Hebrew interpretation, but Luke is interested in the Gentile version of Jesus’s doctrine as opposed to the Judaizing of Peer. Luke was doing the research for Theophilus in creating the New Wine Skin of Christianity for the New Wine of Jesus. The response of the Father to the return of the Prodigal Son is the response of Argos, the faithful dog who dies from joy at recognizing Odysseus. Jesus is saying that God’s unconditional lover for each and everyone of us is the same a dogs’ response in a KZbin video to a soldier come home from deployment. That’s the New Wind of Christianity Luke is selling with the Parable of the Prodigal Son. That’s the story the impoverished literature of the solo scriptura narrative of the Total Depravity Gospel of Pro-Life fascism. Just for the record, if you want to help the Holy Spirit end the heat wave and optimize the global COMMENTARY:

All I want to do in life is tell the truth. The truth is, based on genetics and the human genome, we are still monkeys. We have monkey DNA in our DNA. So, if we are still monkeys, that means Jesus was a monkey. Now, does it make sense to pray to a monkey? Does it make sense to worship a monkey? Does it make sense to think that a monkey will get you into heaven? Does it make sense to think that God himself is a monkey?

Luke 15:11-32 is really the Parable of the Prodigal Sons. The younger son humbled himself and came back home to the Father, but the older son did not love the Father either. It was the older brother who should have gone at any cost to find his younger brother, but he refused. Jesus ended the story to let the people draw their conclusions about the good older brother (Pharisees) and the younger brother (sinners, prostitutes and tax collectors). Jesus came to save sinners not the righteous or the good people. Judaism is a false gospel of good works to get to heaven.

You do realize the Jesus was Jewish, the disciples he chose were Jewish, the Incarnation was in Israel, Pentecost was devout Jews? Christ opened the Jewish scriptures, and read from them, celebrated the feasts, ate clean? We all must be born again. Individuals. There are many Gentiles (folks from the nations) who will be grafted in…to the very Jewish root/vine. No one is save by works….no one. All must repent and be born again personally which, even the faith to believe is a gift from God

This story has absolutely nothing to do with God. Not one thing unless one personally decides it's a metaphor to which religion can be applied. In that case the person reading (hearing ) it decides to make the addition of God. But in general, Aesop's fables can do the same thing. Same with Grimm's Fairy Tales and Mother Goose. A brother coming back home is NOT a miracle. I've done it myself.

HOoooo! There never was multiple Gospels by multiple authors. The Gospel was originally one book, written by Lazarus in consultation with the Apostles [John 21:24] and published soon after Jesus left them on their own. The religion was hijacked by Rome, the Gospel was broken up scrambled adulterated into a bunch of competing narratives. Later four of those adulterated gospels were canonized with falsely ascribed authorship and a Gnosticism cover-story. It was the finding of an original Gospel of Jesus scroll in Jerusalem that gained the Knights Templar power over the Church and their eventual undoing when the church finally retaliated against them Friday 13th. ...supported by Gospel scripture John 21:24 "This is the disciple[whom Jesus loved/ Lazarus] which testifieth of these things, AND WROTE THESE THINGS: and we[Apostles] know that his testimony is true." John 11:5 Now Jesus LOVED Martha, and her sister, and LAZARUS John 11:3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him{Jesus], saying, Lord, behold, HE[Lazarus] WHOM THOU LOVEST is sick.. John11:36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he[Jesus] LOVED him[Lazarus]!
