Hypercompetitiveness is a psychological state where someone has an excessive need to win and compete at all costs. It can be characterized by a neurotic need to maintain a sense of self-worth and power, and winning can strengthen feelings of superiority over others. Hypercompetitive people may: Take on too many roles and tasks, which can lead to falling short of goals Express verbal and physical aggression Experience stress, jealousy, and anxiety Some researchers believe that hypercompetitiveness is a mental disorder that can be linked to other conditions and behaviors, such as: road rage, drunk driving, eating disorders, addiction, and depression. Psychologists, therapists, and psychiatrists are studying the forces that create hypercompetitive personalities and how to help people with them.

Right. I was never a natural runner when I was younger. I completed the mile in 11 min. when we were tested in 7th grade. So it really made me feel down when my peers were doing it in the 6 min. range. But as I got into high school I just competed with myself. Although I never became a "competitive level" runner, nor was that my intention, I did manage to pull a low 6 min. mile when I was 16.

Lessons learned: 1:08 - first beat yourself If you make 10 calls, tomorrow make 11. The fear competition: Here is when you have fear for someone who is there. The bigger the competition, the better for you, but not too much because that won't be fair. Weakest level of competing: Competing with pepole who are at a lower level than you.

Great video. Let me just say this when you just compete against your prior self you start surpassing the competition because your getting better every day that alone can make you feared and respected I call it indirect competition because your indirectly competing with others but directly competing with your self. Focus on self and you can never go wrong.

What scares me most about competition isn't that there will be someone better than me or that I screw up and get laughed at, no. It's that the higher you go, the more people wanna see you fall. The bigger you become the more of a target you end up being, and some people will go out of their way to make sure you fail, employing the most underhanded tricks to get rid of you, so you end up having to be wary of everybody, and so you end up feeling paranoid and alone. That's scary.

Through my life... I've always wanted to be the best at whatever I chose to do. It's hard wired into me and many times I achieved it. Mostly I was hated by my peers, who didn't want to compete, but I didn't care. Now that I'm retired, my former company is happy to employ brown nosers and get-along-to getalongers. LET'S THINK AGAIN. Competition is NOT the only motivator for greatness. Just listen to Nobel Laureates being interviewed. They are motivated by a deep sense of discovery, of explaining the unknown, of seeking the truth, of understanding scientifically how things work. Competing with their fellow scientists was low on their priority list, yet their rose to the top of the scientific world. This is also a great lesson for us.

Absolutely Competition is priceless! Why are people afraid of competition? It’s because of failing or losing. Even if you lose you are still better than you were before without competition. When you are in a competition you are in it 100%. With competition you’ll always beat your last result so it is a win. I love competition very rarely do I come in second. One of the main reasons why I compete with some of the office or in a different state same office it makes me concentrate and I don’t let any variables in. Rob what’s a variable? Family problems girlfriend wife problems Anything that could distract you from your work. Yes I have problems and there’s a time and a place for me to work on that. When I leave work I left work. Rob what does that mean? As soon as I leave the office I do not think about work at all I leave it there. but you’re in competition how can you do that? I’ve focused all day on my work getting my leads and sales. I know 100% I gave it my best now I’m outside of work I need to give one percent of my best to wife or girlfriend or family. I have tried to take care of family problems at work and take care of my business at home. This process has never worked well on either issue. This process has been so good for my family my wife and building a better relationship for the future. In return the process has worked great at work. I do not talk about my personal things at work or my hobbies unless it’s after work. So if you have not Engaged in competition I strongly recommend it. Of course I strongly recommend when you’re off work you’re off work and focus on what life is really about that’s your family amen

The problem for me with entering the highest level of competition "fear" is that sometimes the people who fear you, especially when they are above you (e.g. hierarchy) will try to destroy you or keep you down. Often they will even work together to do so. How do you protect yourself against that?
@AlexanderMoen
@AlexanderMoen 2 жыл бұрын
it really depends on your situation, but at some point you need a level of cooperation among others, and then that "team" competes against another outside group. A one-man business will never outperform a well-run 1000-person organization, for example. If you're in the workplace and someone is tearing you down, you need to find a way to build a bridge together and realize you have the same goals and build others up around you. They'll probably be in awe of you more than fear you, but maybe others will fear you or your organization overall as things grow. If you're talking sports or something along those lines, it doesn't really matter if they "team up" against you. If you're the best on your team you'll have to deal with that and you should relish the moment that their additional pressure is giving you the opportunity to get even better. And, at the same time, you should have cooperated and built up the rest of your team during practices so you all can capitalize on the rest of your team having less pressure since you absorbed most of it.

Has anyone here felt competition can be toxic if you are not in the right frame of mind of what you actually want to do in life? Especially at your work place, for some, they compete for job security , and for some it's simply because they love what they are doing and they simply want to do better in what they are doing in their job. For those who constantly worry about job security my personal experience has been that you are always worried about making sure you do one better than the other to make sure your job is secured and you will never be able to catch a break because in your head there is always someone out there knocking at the doors to take your spot. Even if you do better than the other, if you are not interested in what you are doing, I'm curious to know if it brings you job satisfaction and happiness in what you are doing? Personally it hasn't for me. I have only gotten tired of it.

Competition is fine as long as people play fair. There are people that lie, cheat, and steal in order to win. (If you are good at what you do, you shouldn't have to be that way.) Fine tune your skills and know that you are doing the best that you can do. It doesn't matter what everyone else is doing as long as you are happy. :)

The problem with being feared especially if you’re not a business owner and working for a corporation, the current “leaders” typically will do whatever they can to get you out.. most of these guys will team together and will become chess players and will wait years sometimes before they make their move to get you away. As where if you find a business with true leaders they will embrace your behavior, motivation, passion etc..etc.. still searching for that business 🤣. Nucor Steel isn’t the one lol.

competition for me is acting the part but being someone else.. competition let’s say in some circles inculcates aggression and tension but as one would have it tension is not attention.. for me the relaxation of tensions while in motion in whatever it is u do is paramount verses pimping for it. that way i get accustomed to actual situation and not relative to or parenting of God. forbid so less philosophizing and more use to intention and action.

so in completion tho I’m alll iiieenn I’m also iiieenn for apprising party .. and this help in performing tasks and lowers overall general tension in one. and if competition stuck in hyphy mode long enough they’ll crack cause simply they working against parts of themselves while I’m tryna help. I’m reguvinated and they might feel defeated but at time you get a situation where it’s win win cause remember as another said what may seem contrary and against from outside, are working towgether internally.. so an enemy could be what makes you stronger tho a friend is good for support

This is a brainwash that people on the top put for the people underneath in order to increase production bennefitial to to the top level on a volume basis, and benefitial to the competitor on a residual level (experience and more earnings in the tangible; "respect from peers" and "status" on the superficial). The object of the game is to win (production), not to compete (effort and process)... You reach a goal as a result of being competent, not competitive. You compete to better yourself, competing to one up against the results of other individual is an eternal spiral of unsatisfaction. Who benefits with competition? The end user, and the one who's on top. Yeah, you'll be better at what you do but, everyone else in your field also... so what did comepetition got you. Wining will get you places, wining before competition arrives is better and wining beating you competition is the best (MJ, Kobe, Brady). Competition is the rout of wining, but wining is the objective...

I love this but just struggle to find my peers and higher level people in my field. I do my job (individual consultant) on a specific area, connecting with people in my field I find it hard to engage (as massive fear base on sharing / challenging one another etc). For competing and being challenged can that also be with people outside my field or does that make the learning a little detached / unfocused

I disagree on one thing, I feel like competing against your best can't be the lowest form. I find competing against my past performances leaves me with a more exponential growth compared to competing against others in my field. If I'm constantly competing against others, it kinda sets a ceiling over my head. A glass ceiling. I'm always concerned about their performance and their scores and how to beat their scores. (That being said, any good competitor regardless of whether you're main focus is beating your past performance or your competition will always be aware of your competition (Their strengths/weaknesses, strategies, past performances), but I feel like someone like Michael Jordan who is the best, isn't going to compare themselves with everyone else because they are better than everyone else so there's not a lot of growth that can come from comparing and focusing on beating the competition when you're competing down to their level. When you focus solely on beating your competition, you're setting the bar at your competition's level. So you don't know your own potential, because you're only ever going to be good enough to defeat your competition. On the flip side, comparing and focusing on beating your past performance makes it so your ceiling and potential are only limited to your own performance. You're not limiting yourself to your competition's skill level/ambition/work ethic, but you're freeing yourself of that restriction by setting your aim to be the best you can be. And I find that gives you the potential for exponential growth. Especially when you're always trying to outdo your best. That's where people like Usian Bolt, Michael Jordan, Jeff Gordan, Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, and so many other competitors far outpace everyone else. When you're at the top like these competitors have been, you're either going to start comparing yourself to those below you, which will only lower yourself to their level, or you can compare yourself to your own performance and defeat your best. It's the difference between letting others set your limit, versus you setting your limit.

I agree with looking Down on others and telling yourself I’m better than them. Also if you are tearing down people above you by saying they know people so that’s why they are above me. I hate this attitude! I do NOT Associate with them. By giving excuses of why somebody is better every month than you does nothing for you. It really makes you look bad and if somebody’s always agreeing with you? You are associating with the wrong people. I know I am good at what I do honestly very good. I’ll give you an example of why I stay on top! I was asked to train a new individual in sales. No problem a lot of my coworkers would not do this because they feel it pulls away from their goal. I see it as an opportunity to go beyond my best because I’m showing a new person on how to achieve success. So on our second sales appointment I let him have the lead and he made the sale. Of course I immediately gave him praise however he watched me write a lot of notes. He asked me what was I writing? I said your response to that one question was absolutely brilliant and amazing. He looked at me strangely and said you’re the number one rap for the whole company and you are writing about something I said on my first day? Yes absolutely I am I have never heard a response like that so I’m writing it down so I can use hat later when the opportunity comes. He again said you’re the number one guy and then I replied “if I ever thought I knew everything and didn’t need to take notes I will stop growing.” I think this is key if you are great at your profession and you reach the point of thinking you know it all? To me that means you’re tapped out and you can only go in reverse from here.

I became my own competition. I competed in womens body building during the days of Rachael Mclish and Cory Everson, Carla Dunlap, etc All very amazing women...even though it was not in vogue to pic a mentor in the new sport I knew that I had to be on stage as my favorite Gladys Portugal. She was petitie and oh so adorable. Like ME, LOL On stage I was Gladys and I won Ms. Mile High, light weight division, at 105 and 3/4's I also took 2nd place in the Four Corners Competition, NM CO UT AZ I took 2nd place at 35 years of age. I didn't mind losing to the woman that won. She was so composed back stage I will never forget it...It's an attitude just as much as the thing itself...but wait... I am turning 67 On Sept 16. I got back into training last December. I have transformed 17 pounds and I went from 136 to 118 120...hahahahaha I don't look my age and sometimes it's embarrassing if someone winks prematurely, lol...I would never date anyone who could be my son! hahaha! I grew up a migrant kid 3rd generation in US I'm of Mexican descent. My learning was stifled for a long timed. My first rebellion was having to do phonics when I knew two languages, but I ALWAYS remember my dad, rip, saying to me, learn the English language better than they and use it! I am very eloquent in my delivery. I can tell someone off in a very soothing melonic voice. and I am very skilled at reading pattern. I read human dynamics! and you know what, bigger, better, more, does not necessarily win the race, but it's a good run. at the same time my 30 year old daughter lost a "bouncy ball" race in 3rd grade and hated competition ever since...I have to say she did win the race, but I was not a judge. Such is life. What you gonna do. Something but we have to do it ourselves for ourselves. Good Video Pat!
