It's the same way with good drawing. Some people can do a good start, and some can tighten up easily. The middle part takes a lot of work.

most people use dynamesh to start building forms, I turn off dynamesh and create subdivs levels after about 200k polygons.

16:55 lmao it reminds me of every time I learn a new exotic word: I hear it a lot afterwards. Strange because I never heard "picturesque" for 25 years of my life and when I was 25: I heard it. Now I hear it a few times a year at least. That's just a single example. As for modeling, that is so very true. And now watching disney and pixar movies makes me more appreciative of their art. I just saw Incredibles 2 on Netflix last night and the beginning blew my mind with all the physics. That must've taken awhile to bake and render. Purely amazing work that they do

this was enlightening for me because im trying to learn how to use TexturingXYZ and after applying the pores there is stuff missing from the sculpt. and i wouldn't have noticed. but i noticed after watching this video. luckily though im going back into zbrush to sculpt it more. so there is that.

so, low frequency is blocking out a good silhouette and bone structure, the mid frequency is building all the muscles under the skin and more bone structure, and the high is all the fine details like hair and wrinkles?
@irkendragon
@irkendragon 5 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of it referred to as frequency before. Also known as primary, secondary and tertiary forms. Primary = basic shapes/anatomy. Secondary = interactions between primary forms, tertiary = integument and small details, scales, veins, pores, hair strands, etc. Or BIg, Shmedium, and Tiny shapes.

I love your videos keep up the good work. Can ı ask you something ? I see you are not using sculptris pro mode in your sculpting videos. Is sculptris mode unnecessary ? Why we must’nt use sculptris mode ? I see some other artist they are using this. I dont understand.

stylized characters are smooth and they don't have neither mid or even high frequency like real ones even in animation they tried to go with styilzed since it's much more easier to fool the viewers..our eyes are used to seeing real people all the time and it takes a talented team to bring it to the CG world, check out Logan the movie and you'll see the real magic, most of it is CGI and you won't be able to tell what's real and what's CGI.

Off topic guys but I'm a ZBrush beginner and I notice that you guys switch brushes extremely quickly (unlike myself who is currently pressing B first and then two more letters). I've learned that you can set up brush shortcuts and I have two questions; 1) What keyboard shortcuts have you assigned and for which brushes (I watched one of your beginner videos where you listed around 5 of your most common brushes) ? 2) Which keyboard do you use ? (and was it chosen specifically for zBrush) ? Many thanks :)

Ctrl+Alt to set your hotkey. I personally use 1>9 for brushes. 1 for Clay buildup, 2 standard, 3 dam, 4 move, 5 trim dynamic and so on But to each his own.

1 - Isolate Selected 2 - Standard 3 - Clay Buildup 4 - Move 5 - damStandard Thats basically it for brushes :) The keyboard doesnt matter at all.

mid frequencys is where the personality is. the nuance that gives a form its recognisable character. a potatoe has a surface signature that a rock that looks like a potatoe doesnt. and that tiled map didnt need to have that cloth formation wrinkle thing, thats what exposes the tiling. the small bumps seamless tiled would be enought.

Do you think people need to know how to draw to use zbrush correctly?
@Takasuart
@Takasuart 5 жыл бұрын
no, there are many top tier artists that do not know how to draw. Now, knowing how to draw will really help you on your journey, my advice is if you love drawing, get to study while drawing, but if you don't really like it so much, study 3D or traditional sculpting, what matters is that you study art while using the software. Pure software knowledge won't get you there, design and art knowledge will. With this knowledge transitioning from medium to medium or software to software becomes easier
