While a newly described moth may be exciting, I really hope the photographer does a better job of cleaning her boots and equipment before and after she enters a new environment.

When I went to New Zealand and Hawaii they are very strict about making sure your shoes are clean. No sand, dried mud, or dirt clods allowed. Some airports even offer free shoe cleaning stations built onto a little platform that collects the debris. The stations are rudimentary at best- a wooden or metal platform with a three-sided brush you put your shoe into and then scrub it back and forth between the bristles- but they’re relatively cheap and easy to install. Wish more places would implement them.

Many of the fish in the Xingu river won't spawn in aquariums. They will be lost forever. The march of man caused extinctions goes on. No slowing it.

My piranhas will eat almost anything, other than fish bugs and inverts, they'll eat berries, bananas, mango, pineapples. They'd adapt if meat was not available.

is the vegetarian piranha not just a black bar silver dollar or even a Pacu? Silver Dollars and Piranha come from the same family, one is carnivorious and one is an omnivore but mainy eats plants...

I think the fact that the meat/fin eating piranhas have evolved a mouth full of serrated razor blades means it's safe to say they are in fact carnivorous 😂 Also the "bloodthirsty swarming behavior" *_is real;_* it just only happens in certain places under particular conditions 💯

I always have such high hopes but 99% of all new species are like "look, this frogs hind legs are just a little more crooked!" Or "this rat's tail is slightly longer" it's just always disappointing. I'm the stupid guy waiting for us to doscover this whole new family or genus of animal! That's what I want. Or even like when they discovered the red sea dragon, very similar to other sea dragons, yet very distinct. That's what excites me.

How many specimens of a "new species" do you need to find for it to be considered a new species? (I'm talking about new, living specimens)

The candiru fish does not enter genitals regularly. While there is one account that is likely true, others are without evidence. I would not call it a habit or behavior of the fish.
