The Habs are making the playoffs this year, 7th spot, first round against the Bruins Source: Laine, Slafkovsky, Caufield, Suzuki, Newhook, Armia, Hutson, Matheson, Guhle, Montembeault, Xhekaj brothers, you're underestimating how well rounded this team has already became, last year was a mess because we played too many goalies, Kirby Dach was hurt, Anderson had a rough year, but yeah, im a fan, im a believer GO HABS GO!!
@kevinsargent6282Ай бұрын
Not sure if the Habs will make it this year, but I agree that many are sleeping on them given their low finishes recently, completely overlooking the bloodbath of injuries they have suffered the last 3 years (broke the NHL record 2 years in a row! 🤯). If they can just stay on the positive side of injury average, they will at least have a good shot at a wildcard, IMO. Or at least a close race to the end of the season… Will be fun!

@@ojibwe_86at risk of feeding the trolls…. 🙄 Keep thinking that if you like. I will respectfully disagree about the defense, I am sure they have at least 1 or 2 eventual top 2 defense between Reinbacher, Mailloux, Guhle and Hutson, they are just young. For the second line, Laine is only a couple years removed from 3 consecutive 30+ goal seasons and is appears to be past his personal issues, along with a #3OA pick (Dach) who has been a bit of a late bloomer, improving since they picked him up before suffering a season ending injury last year, however by all reports so far he is back 100%. Next year Demidov will join them and they will really be cooking. Their goaltending last year was above average, solid but nothing fantastic. They also have a very promising prospect in Fowler coming down the pipe, which could be ready by the time they are ready to try to make a run in 2 or 3 years. In their first exhibition last night, they beat Philly 5-0 with arguably their “B team” on the ice (no Suzuki / Caufield / Slaf or Montembeault), and their stars like Laine didn’t even score. Nobody is saying they will be dominant or not even a favorite to qualify for the playoffs, but just that they should not be written off as a given for last in the Atlantic as everyone seems to be doing… 🙄 The uncertainty is what makes hockey exciting to watch. 🙂
@ojibwe_86Ай бұрын
@@kevinsargent6282 oh boy, here we go again with another round of Habs prospects. I remember when Habs fans were raving about …. Juulsen, Sergachev, Mete, Romanov, Struble. These are just the defenseman that were once touted by fans to be the next nucleus of the team. This isn’t a playoff team for at least the next three to four years, and even then other Eastern Conference teams are getting better. There is NO true top 2 defenseman currently playing for Montreal. Now, there are other teams in the league that also don’t have a true top 2 dman, it’s not only the Habs.

The Panthers last year they weren't as deep as a team on paper to the year before, but won the cup. This year they seem to be a little less deeper again loosing key players due to salary cap, but again showing they have the potential to make another cup run. The system they have right now with Paul Maurice works, and now it is even perfected even more. This team can go deep again if they stay healthy. Last year they had tons of depth, not as much this year so staying healthy will be key for them. I will say, they need to clean it up defensively a bit more if they want to win it again. Last year they were a powerhouse in that department, this year not so much. But it's still early in the season so we'll see.

Leafs fan here, this is my take on Matthew’s getting captain. Short answer not my favorite play. Honestly he’s a great player scored a ton but he just doesn’t function in times where he needs to, like the playoffs. From what I’ve watched I think nylander is more fit for that position after last season. Otherwise I think the off season moves we made we pretty decent but round 1 against the bruins will tell us.

@@Un-Named-Man straw man, I never said anything about Matthews. Just that Nylander is not fit to wear the C. People keep making those same points about the Hurricanes, but they all forget that Pyotr Kochetkov exists and is likely going to be the functional starter, he played most of the games last year and was exactly what the Canes needed. They also forget that Jarvis is moving from the 3rd line with Staal and Martinook to the 1st line with Aho. Necas, Svechnikov, Jarvis, and Aho are all likely to improve this season, and there are some very promising rookies coming into the system. Defensively, they lost Pesce and Skjei for Walker and Ghostisbeher, but it's more likely that Chatfield and Orlov are the new 2nd pair. The ONLY questions with the Hurricanes are: Who's going to be the 2nd line center, and will Kochetkov or Andersen be the starter on paper. Kochetkov is starting more games than Andersen, I guarantee it. Based on practices, 1st line will likely have Aho with Jarvis and a defensively reliable forward. 2nd line will be Necas with Svechnikov and a center who can screen the goalie, likely Kotkeniemi, which would be fine because he's reliable defensively, has a bigger body than he looks, and Svechnikov with Necas will handle the scoring.
@jsquared1013Ай бұрын
I am not sure if Kochetkov is "there" yet as a top-level goalie. I think he's better than Andersen (thought I'm not a fan of Andersen and I thought he was a major factor in our elimination vs the Rangers), but in my opinion it will take Kochetkov another year or two before he's at the level where he can bail out a bad game or two in the playoffs like an elite goaltender could. I will be happy to be proven wrong, however. I still feel we lack a "superstar" game-changing kind of player. I really like Aho and he is excellent, and I like how the team has well-distributed scoring across multiple lines (which is a good thing come playoff time), but I don't feel like Aho or Svechnikov is at the top-tier level where they can change a game the way that a Crosby, Kucherov, regular-season Matthews, or a MacKinnon could. In terms of defense, I think we're "worse" (maybe "less good" is a better way to phrase it) than we were last season on a per-player basis, but if the new guys can adjust to the system I think it will be less of an impact than one might initially expect due to the quality of defensemen that moved on over the summer.

I just wanna say cus I'm sure everyone's forgotten. But the comment on Detroit missing the playoffs "because" philly pulled their goalie in a tied game. You probably forgot philly was in the hunt too but their win conditions where much worse and if that game had gone to overtime they would have missed out on the playoffs anyway. They needed to get the regulation win and so they gambled and pulled the goalie to try and get a game winning goal in the last minutes of the third period.

The Rangers are a great regular season team that feeds off of momentum and consecutive wins but they still have problems on short rest and when they meet aggression. that analysis of carberry doing a brilliant job with the CAPS offense -after saying they were the worst team to ever make the playoffs and had the worst goal differential- by saying that he allows Ovie to stand on the blue line (with no momentum) and let the other four guys do the work is wild. i think it is my first total disagreement with your usually apt takes.
