My mom warned me about them when we found out I was pregnant. So, I was expecting them, however, it was a pain in the ass because they needed me to sign some things. I gave up after my fifth try and asked them if I could do it once the shaking had stopped. Was so glad my mom was there through the whole pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. My mom passed away June 2nd of last year. My son is now 10 years old and I am so grateful that he had a strong bond with many good memories of his Grammie.

It's from the shock your body goes through. Any time you shake uncontrollably, usually out of nowhere, and it doesn't last for longer than hour it is an indicator that you have shocked your system. It doesn't only happen during labor and postpartum. It can happen after an intense workout or when faced with sudden fear, really anything can cause the fight or flight response. To add: Usually when the shaking does last for longer than an hour or returns, it's from weakened and tired muscles.

My heating pad was one of the best things during labor! I didn't expect the shakes and it was a lifesaver for them

Didn't drink any water for 15 hrs and spent most of that time in the shower so dehydration is probably a good cause for these shakes. I shook heaps right before the pushing stage, also had an unmedicated labor. Haven't been so thirsty in my whole life as I was immediately after delivery 😂

This definitely happened to me! 32 Hrs no medication, had no idea what to do in 2009 and nobody told me what it was or what to do! My mom asked for extra blankets and it eventually stopped! Traumatized 🤦🏾♀

Reminded me when I was recovering after hysteroscopy, I just recall saying it’s so cold and I do little shakes and it was the anesthesia. I am being forewarned that might happen after this pregnancy, glad social media brings all this up 😅

I had these happen to me after every single one of my births. And the birth team for every birth (always a different group) treated it like they had never seen or heard of it before in their lives. They always either thought I was violently shivering or having a seizure. To see that this is a well know, well documented and common occurrence is a little frustrating.

My shakes were baddd and I was still shaking when the anesthesiologist went to put in my epidural. I was scared I’d get hurt cuz I couldn’t stay still. Thank god for my mom who prayed over me and held me and the shakes stopped. I was still a little shaky after the meds kicked in but at least my legs weren’t shaking because I couldn’t move them at all lol

I had no clue when I got mine. Even my mom was asking the nurse “why is she shaking so bad.” The more you try to stop them the more you shake. Lol!

My entire body shook like seizures when hard labor hit while having my 2nd son. I had no meds & no C-section so that wasn't it. Was just natures way of massaging me from the inside! It relieved maybe 1% of the pain 🤣

I had this happen during an emergency c-section. The doctor closing my incision told me to "hold still and stop shaking".

When this happened to me I thought it was just cause I was nervous then the nurse was explaining to the other nurse ‘ok see how she’s shaking that’s…’ and I stopped paying attention and started delivering 😂

I had this and thought I was having a seizure! The nurses did not inform me that it was normal which scared me even more.

I got the shakes while in labor. My doula suggested that I was likely in transition, it was intense! My baby girl arrived about 20 minutes later.

I have given birth twice. The first time I felt like i could feel myself pushing even though I had an epidural. What nobody warns you about is sometimes if you get an epidural, you cannot feel the bottom half of your body, and when someone is telling you to push, you cant feel anything!! So you panic and feel like you cant do anything when people are yelling at you!! This happened with my second birth. I dont even know how I delivered the baby.

Got these during the push phase during an unmedicated birth. It was an odd sensation but, as with the rest of labor, i "leaned" into it and they soon passed.

I shook for almost three hours and had a slight fever off and on for the first two weeks after giving birth in a birthing tub with no medication. Pregnant with my second now and praying I don’t have a similar experience. It was terrible. I didn’t have any infection, just a terrible trauma response from my body I suppose.

I had the postpartum shakes, only for my first birth, and it was awful. It happened only in my legs. Nobody in my family had experienced them before so they couldn't tell me what was happening. I also experienced labor like pain, for almost 3 days postpartum with my 1st and 3rd birth.

Thank you so much for this Information. 14 years ago my midwife asked me why you are so shaking. Now i know it was a bad midwife. I was so young and it was my first giving birth. Thank you. Now i know what it was and why it was happended.
