I gave birth without any medication twice .This was forty years ago.I had little or no intervention from medical staff but simply went inside myself and relaxed into the intense contractions.I did this with out any actual birth training. It happened by itself.I did not have to actively push by body simply took over and expelled both my large babies all by itself. It was a primal and unforgettable experience and I will never forget the sheer wonder of how this now 68 year old body did its job.I was up and about with in a couple of hours and had virtually no postpartum bleeding.Truly magical.

My first time labour took a total of 12 hours from the first contraction to baby's arrival and with a pushing time of 10 minutes. No tearing or pain medication. I credit the successful delivery thanks to this channel as I've done your exercises throughout my pregnancy. Thank you!

@broadwaystr92990 I was at home until my water broke after 11 hours of contractions. My baby came 40 minutes after I arrived at the hospital. The staff didn't believe me when I said that the baby was coming (because it was my first baby). I had a midwife joining me during the last 15 minutes. For my next pregnancy, I would want to give birth at home.

As a labor nurse, I applaud all of your suggestions! Please let's stop pushing on our backs, with our legs pulled back to our ears and while we are holding our breath! So much evidence to support much better techniques. And definitely, positively, do NOT listen to the people with the horror stories of birth! There are so many women who have had great experiences and are happy to share.

I'm so glad you feel that way!! Self directed breathing was so discouraged by the head nurse at the hospital I was delivering at and she kept yelling in my ear "you HAVE to hold your breath" I wanted to be like leave me alone and let me do my thing! I'm sure your a godsend to the women lucky enough to have you attend to them.

Why do we have to be laying on our backs to deliver out a baby in the position you said in a bed is not suggested? Can we just be at the hospital standing in a crouch position and the labor nurse catch the baby like a football 😂 sorry. First time pregnant and it seems like from all the stories I've heard home deliveries have more say in a "mom's comfort," than being told what to do at the hospital. Guess, I won't know how I'm treated til it happens. Trust in God is my approach

I dont think theres any way to do this, whatever wants to happen always happens. Nothing ever goes as planned. I was scheduled for a C-section and ended up having my baby vaginally with no tearing and no medication. It was such a blessing and i was NOT expecting that at all. God is Big!

A word of love. Some of us deliver posterior babies no matter what we do. Posterior labors are known for being longer and more painful. Many of these techniques didn't help me during both my births, including hands and knees (which was somehow the most painful of all). After watching so many positive birth vlogs, I felt like I was failing because of how much pain I was in. I did hypnobirthing. I read Ina May's book. I leaned forward all the time and worked out. I was very optimistic and excited for labor! I literally woke up with painful contractions, so it wasn't fear or tension causing my pain. If you had a similar experience, it wasn't your fault and you didn't do it wrong.

Thank you for your comment. So true. Sometimes things are different and harder for each person depending on their situation. It’s fine to say anyone can give birth even to a big baby, but there are women who have complications and end up needing interventions , and again doesn’t mean they are a failure. Each person has different circumstances and the baby has different issues. Sometimes for medical reasons the baby needs to come out no matter how. And yes sometimes it’s long and painful and these things don’t work for all. I’m Sure it’s great general advice for a lot of people and that’s fantastic, but I agree many circumstances can happen and if your story isn’t positive it’s not a flaw in you.

Thank you for this. ❤ I didn’t have a posterior baby, but I did have to be induced, which meant (a) a constant state of pain-there was no focusing on “the current contraction,” because it literally felt like one long contraction and (b) I had to be hooked up to fetal monitors the entire time. So I had to be lying down and couldn’t get up or change positions at all. (Not that I wanted to get up much when I was in a constant state of blinding pain…) For a long time, I felt as though I and my body had failed. But comments like yours help me feel not as bad. ❤

I watched this the morning before I ended up giving birth (last Friday) - the techniques of breathing through the delivery and visualizing the baby moving through the birth canal really worked for me, it took 6 minutes from start to finish for little Scarlett to make it out. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you for your insight! I did the pre natal yoga for months before the birth and intend on starting post natal yoga once I feel a bit better. Thank you for all of them! Will definitely recommend to others :)

@@juliecastro5987 No, I just focused on breathing deeply every time there was a contraction, focusing on my breath and making some of the vowel noises we practice in one of the prenatal yogas. When I focused on visualizing the baby moving through the birth canal I think I triggered the delivery to start happening - I had been at 7cm just 10 minutes before and after 4-5 contractions of visualizing the baby coming out it was happening. Surreal experience! Also way better than my first birth - in terms of the labor, delivery and how I feel post partum.

A lot of wisdom here. My first baby I was so nervous. My labor nurse (bless you Marie) told many of these tips. Don’t think about the contraction you just had, don’t think about the next one coming, just breathe through the one you’re in right now. And listen to your body. My last i labored for several hours, then got super sleepy and laid down to take a nap. I woke up 45 minutes later in transition and she came less than two hours later

I had your birth routine printed with me and my husband was taking care I see it the whole time. At the end there were some complications and I spent the whole time in bed but I was confident, calm, the pushing phase was fast and I felt I have a lot of strength. I’m so sorry you wouldn’t want a student. I’ve been a OB/GUN Nurse/Nurse Practitioner for forty four years. Seeing my first birth at San Francisco General got me hooked for life. I spent ten lovely years as a labor and delivery nurse after graduation. I then got my Masters Degree and taught OB Nursing at SFSU, one of my students was my L&D Nurse when I had my first child. That same Nurse went on to become a very successful child birth educator in San Francisco. I have also taught OB Nursing at SSU and Carrington College in Reno. The students always are respectful and helpful helping with the birth process, for some it can be a life changing experience. I enjoyed your video, but please don’t encourage all women to not have a student. I have spent my working career helping women and students in this miraculous pregnancy and birth process. Thank you.

Its a nice suggestion if you didn't know thats an option. Im definitely going to let them know i dont want students viewing my first birth, ita juat not aomething im comfortable with at the moment. I think id be okay with if i had a 2nd baby. Students will have many other opportunities to see a birth, the priority should be whatever helps the mother be the most calm and comfortable.

Had a pregnancy with cervix insufficiency, and i had to stay in bed all of it, so i couldn't do the majority of the things said here in the video. BUT - there is a big BUT! While in labor, I used the square method for breathing, and I was also in the moment there 100%. It's weird to say and to hear, but I think I even enjoyed my pain at some point thinking that this is how my baby boy is coming, and I dilated very fast from 6 to 10 cm. Just by concentrating on the contractions and letting my body do its job. The pregnancy ball helped a lot. I was imagining how my womb was contracting as well while i had pain... it's insane what our brain can do. My labor and delivery lasted 5 hours and 11 minutes. Thank you for all the advice! They are amazing. You are amazing. I wish all the mothers labor and delivery like mine.

It means a lot to me to hear positive birth stories because so many of them that I've heard from people I know have been negative ones - I am working on a basis of accepting whatever happens as long as I get a healthy baby out of it, but I don't think that would have been possible without hearing positive birth stories and going into it with confidence that I can handle whatever comes my way!

Being in the present and focusing on the contraction really helps to get through labour. Just wait for the next contraction. I was also walking through my 6 hour labour as I couldn't sit due to pain. I never had much time between contraction from start to end. It started with strong contraction five to seven minutes apart and then shortened into two to three minutes apart.

You know I appreciate the video and iam 8 weeks and a day into a twin pregnancy and Its amazing how true this video is, because going to the bathroom basically for the past 2 months ive been unconsciously doing all these things, the breathing and the strengthening of muscles i didn't realize i had, and I see this video and it all connected for me, child birth isn't painful or traumatic unless you make it that Way out of fear, but i chose unconditional love and surrendering to that, that was the hardest part of this, and it's done, and beautiful loving energy comes through videos and experiences and insight every moment of each day since then and it's just so cool to see it come full circle. This is the kind of energetic transference that truly makes the difference! Grateful and thankful for it and you all! Keep on going your touching the lives of many by birthing creation in infinite ways!

My first time having my baby girl I did accept students with a doctor to watch my birth and it was the best decision I made! I had my personal doctor the whole time and when I was pushing and my baby wasn’t coming out, the nurse didn’t know but the doctor made sure that she called the doctor because something was wrong! Once the doctor got there he said if baby didn’t come out in 10 min I was going to have a c-section (I got induced and had to get epidural because my pain went from 2-10 - baby was in distress which is why I had to get induced) so my baby was sunny side up and doctor put his whole hand inside and turned her after that I had to push super hard for 15 seconds and I felt a lot of pain when I did that! The doctor with the student was MY PERSONAL COACH! And she gave me all the energy to push the baby she was amazing! If it wasn’t for her I don’t know what would’ve happened.

9 weeks and this was so helpful! I have considered a birthing center, but everyone I know has ended up being transferred to the hospital. I would definitely prefer to be at home or a birthing center than in a hospital but I also feel a little safer there. I’m still on the fence about it. But my goal is to go without an epidural for sure. I want to do my best to prepare.

I could recommend a birth center, just because they’re more natural and less interventions. I was able to find an alternative birthing center connected to a hospital. It’s peace of mind being right next to the hospital, just in case something goes wrong. Hope you find a place that treats you good ❤ good luck!

I used a TENS machine, nitrous oxide, moving around a lot, and birth affirmations during my first. "I can do anything for one minute." "Every wave brings my baby closer to my arms." "My body knows how to give birth." "I trust my team." (Meaning the medical professionals.) Those affirmations made my birth a positive story even though it was a difficult birth ending up in cesarean. I don't have any bad memories about the experience. I'm not fit now, so thank you always for your excellent exercise content. I have two months left to tone up and improve my endurance. Thank you for mentioning that I shouldn't be doing kegels! 😆 I trust your content because you helped me heal 3 fingers out of my 4 fingers diastasis recti. It's opened up again, but I know what to do.

My pelvic floor physio taught me the value of reverse kegels because a while before pregnancy (I’m 39 weeks currently…), I had a hypertonic (overly tense and so dysfunctional) pelvic floor. That and pelvic floor yoga did wonders to relax my pelvic floor. So instead of regular kegels, you only clench momentarily before breathing in deeply, distending your belly, and then breathing out and relaxing your lower half completely, then repeat. That trains the muscles to relax properly. KZbin pelvic floor pilates instructors were what I used for the yoga element. So now I do kegels so I’m okay after pregnancy (also because I’d started peeing when I sneezed, baby weighing down my bladder) but do an equal number of reverse kegels and pelvic floor yoga to ensure that my pelvic floor remains good at relaxing. Worth seeing a pelvic floor physio before pregnancy/third trimester to see what state your pelvic floor is in I think

Planning my seventh full-term all-natural vaginal home birth, and just want to encourage all the mothers out there who are brave and courageous enough to buck the ludicrous system that has become the standard treatment of birth in hospitals. Every one of my babies were delivered by my PCP: GOD, with the help of some midwives, wonderful doulas, and- once- only my husband (but after that I said, "NEVER AGAIN")! LOL Birthing at HOME has brought me such peace and joy, knowing that no money-hungry, time-constricted doctors are hovering around looking for more money-making interventions which aren't actually in the mother and babies' best interests. My midwives tried giving me a "throne" to sit back on during my first birth, and after three seconds in it I scrambled out, saying, "That feels AWEFUL!" I can't imagine how women labor all strapped up in hospitals!! Every birth saw me squatting, holding onto something like a bar or bedrail, and that is how each baby was born, except for a couple whose big shoulders got stuck and were instantly freed into the outer world by getting on my hands and knees. The famous, miraculous "Gaskin Maneuver" is actually on the LIST of possibilities for hospital births, but sadly doctors would rather perform an episiotomy than go the natural route. I feel that when a woman goes to a hospital to give birth, she is set on a conveyor belt to unnecessary and dangerous interventions. Set on her back, the weight of the uterus compresses a major blood vessel that runs down near the laboring mother's spine called the vena cava. And compressing that blood vessel slows blood flow to the baby! Add to that the pain the baby feels when his or her scalp is literally screwed with a wire that causes painful bruising and a lesion, and WALAH! "The baby's in distress! We've got to perform an emergency C-section! Sorry, you can't have the natural birth you hoped for..." By the way, that'll be twice the cost of a vaginal birth. Is it just me, or is setting up for distress equivalent to setting up for a doctor's "success"?

For me ~ I am 40. I had Major birth trauma with my first 15 years ago. I ripped into pieces and never healed properly. Forced to lay on my back. Not allowed to move even though my body was telling me to. Was told to shut the F up when I made noise etc. It was a horrible almost 48 hours of labour. I swore I’d never go through birth again. This time… I’m trying to reclaim my birth trauma. I’m terrified but working through fear. This is why I’m choosing another natural birth. Thank you for your videos they have been helping me!

I wish you a healing experience. My first was also traumatic being forced onto my back and held down when every fiber of my being was telling me to get on my hands and knees. It all felt completely out of my control. My second I got a peaceful labor at home and pushed my baby out on my side after 8 minutes in the hospital. That birth was healing for me (the aftercare was just terrible which is why I have chosen a home birth for number 3). A redemptive experience is possible!

I’m going to try some of these with my 3rd baby. The nurses wouldn’t let me do a lot of this stuff when I birthed my 2nd baby. No balls, no baths, no showers, no being in any other position on the bed except on your back, no walking outside your own room. At one point they allowed me to get up and lean on the bed but I found that to be most uncomfortable and quickly got back on the bed. At one point I tried to roll over onto my side and they were like “What are you doing?!” They were worried I would roll off the bed onto the floor! I didn’t have the option to labour at home either as it was an induction. Fingers crossed I get a bit more say in my 3rd delivery!!
