Very informative and well presented video. Thanks for the time and effort. I may never get into elr but this info can be directly transferred to my application of shooting. Namely close bush stalking with a blr takedown in 300 win mag. It fits me well and comes to my eye pretty well for standing offhand shots which is also the way I zero it.

ARC action which is a Rem700 footprint so lots of parts available A comfortable stock, Manners in my case, and a good LOP and cheek riser for a tall person like me. 40 minutes in my rail from the factory which works good with my Leupold Mark 5 which has about 90 minutes travel total in the vertical The rest? 30" Bartlien barrel, EC Tuner brake, TT Diamond trigger, which is pretty standard stuff for anyone building a nice rifle.

Aero Solus is probably the cheapest option for Integrated Rail ELR rifle build right now based on my research...but the cartridge options are limited. However...if you see any of the cartridges you like...Erik Cortana was really impressed with it...something like 1/2 MOA 10 shot group at 500 yards straight out of the box(es). Also...its on the Remington 700 action footprint so plenty of chassis, stocks, and triggers are available for it. Proof Research Barrels has a dedicated section for Aero Solus Prefits...although Erik was able to do what he did with the OEM barrel and lightweight hunting stock...so I'm almost considering not bothering with any upgrades until I can match what he did with what he did because its un-upgraded form is obviously a lot more capable than I am.

Very clearly explained and great information. There is an old saying, "Horses for courses" that applies to most things in life. A great rifle for one type of usage may not be great for a different type of shooting. My Lithgow LA102 in .223 is a great rifle for shooting from a vehicle or some fixed position but if I have to carry it while on foot, a lighter weight rifle would be better. At my age, walking long distances is not viable, so a heavier rifle is not an issue.

There is a list of reasons why you don't see alot of aftermarket parts for the sako I have 4 and I have done nothing to them but shoot them but I have other makes that I have done stuff to just about all of them. To me I think it would be hard and expensive to make a aftermarket part for a sako that would improve it. Now look at a Remington 700 it comes with one of the worst triggers you could get and that's why there is more aftermarket triggers for the 700 then I can name just a few reasons.

Great points as having run into cant issues from the mounting and the scope range. As far as blowing the hat off the shooter next to ya, well I go out of the way to sit next to someone without one. Rigged up a Bullpup with a certain muzzle brake for a can, found I was concussing myself and had to go to just a flash-suppressor, but that wasn't a long-range gun. As to twist and the grain bullet in 223/5.56, went for 1/7 and 1/8 and found it still did better with 55 grain over 75 grain, go figure. But that is at 200 yards and not high-end barrels... Really great information in a build for a bolt-action, wonderful things to include in the choices and what to watch for and the details in the accessories

I purchased the Savage Elite Precision - it already has literally everything you talked about “adding” to a rifle - so i didn’t have to add anything to it at all - i think the trigger is running at around 1 1/4 or so… and runs a 1:7 x 26’ Barrel …. BUT … you still need to be able to hand load (really good) to get an “Elite Precision” out of it - thanks for the video - you are spot on 👍

Excellent video MarkandSam, thank you for being so diligent in learning and sharing your knowledge, I have learned a lot from you two. Like Fullhalf420 below I wanted to get something off the shelf for some local club shooting. I was able to get this done for just over $1500 scope included. It (Savage 110 Desert Tactical, 6mm Creedmoor) does well up to 1250 yards and below. For our quarterly 1 mile shoot I did not get on target but bracketed it many times. I think that had to do more with time of day (wind, rising heat) and bullet weight and the fact that I needed to holdover about 30MOA (steeper rail coming). My buddy who does have same rifle did get on target at 1 mile (earlier time and different ammo). This was done with off the shelf ammo that the Savage likes (Hornady 105gr BTHP). Muzzle brake is a necessity and position is key. The spotters really helped and we have some amazing shooters who gave me lots of great tips. The longest comment I've ever left and I've only been shooting LR since May 2024 - so you can do it too. Obviously you can spend bag loads upfront but why not start out "inexpensively"? You can always buy more equipment... Sorry for the long comment.

When swapping the stock was not an option and the stock was wide enough but unfortunately a little curved, I put an ARCA rail on an electric hot plate and kept it warm. I find the ammo is just as important. And to me that means handloads: Cases fireformed to the chamber, neck resizing only, hand set primers, bullets all checked for weight, hand thrown powder charges individually measured, bullet seated to just touch the rifling. Best accuracy with my Rem 700 HB in .308, was with 44 grains WW748, which is less than max. Hornady 168gr BTHP. I replaced the factory stock with a McMillan, trigger is now a Remington Mark X, and the optics are a Vortex PST. That got my groups under .50 MOA consistently. Basically I built a Rem PSS before there was a Rem PSS.
