If you're planning to visit Lima, Peru, there are some important things you should know. [Peru travel 2019]
►The travel credit card we use: refer.amex.us/BRITTNRQy6?XLINK...
After traveling in Mexico for about 15 months, we decided it was time to visit another Spanish-speaking country. When some airplane tickets to Lima, Peru went on sale, we couldn't pass up the opportunity! That's what originally brought us to Lima where we experienced a bit of culture shock and made a few mistakes during our trip.
In this Lima 2019 vlog, we decided to share the biggest mistakes we think travelers are likely to make in the city. In this travel vlog, we talk about the biggest mistakes you can make in Lima, including:
- A common Lima candy you shouldn't take back on the plane;
- The local currency and how you can pay;
- The price of transportation in Lima and which is the best option to choose;
- A local beverage you should be very careful with;
- The tipping culture and what's expected;
- A big mistake you can make with Peruvian food;
- What the seasons are like in Peru;
- Heating and cooling in Lima homes;
- What the driving is like in the city;
- A big mistake you can make while walking around Lima;
- And more!
Some of these mistakes we made ourselves, and others are details about Peru or traveling in Lima that you might easily overlook. Even if you ask lots of questions and do tons of research before traveling to Lima, not knowing these helpful facts might make your trip less desirable.
We hope this information and our tips help you in your Lima, Peru 2019 travels! Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments.

Uber in Lima is not recommended at all! They have gotten a really bad reputation. American people usually recommend Uber because it's "sinonym of app taxi", but here in Lima, Uber drivers have starred news due to thefts to passengers. Better take Beat, Cabify or Taxi Satelital.

1)Just get a prepaid chip for your phone for 10 dollars you get a month of some data and calls, and you can top it up for really cheap. 2) Most restaurants, ,malls and businesses do open on sundays, only really small clothing or shoe stores might be closed. 3) Obviously pisco is like whisky or vodka. Beer comes from similar ingredients of whisky, that doesn't mean they will have the same alcohol % 4) Lima doesn't have extreme temperatures. Winter can be as low as 13 or 14 celsius at night and 28 at summer, so A/C is not that common because people get by with a jacket or a sweater at most. The rest is pretty much spot on.

Good Video! and just to mention: To come to Peru best season is between April - September, despite coldest in Lima during this time (coast), because people also regularly wants to visit Cusco region and Machu Picchu and during these months is dry season (not rainy) in the Andes so is the best time to visit Peru. Remember not everyone can visit Peru 2 times :) Note 1: another mistake is keep visiting only fancy neighborhoods. You cant feel the real Lima and you can lose the chance to visit some famous and delicious "huariques" Note 2: perfect months to visit Peru: April (still nice weather in Lima (coast) and ending the rainy season in Cusco (andes) or September/October (rainy season has not started yet and cheaper than other months) .

Best time to visit Lima is in summer from January to March, specially in February, the sun is always on and is diferent and there are so much activities in the coast, is more vibrant. Unfortunatelly our winter is gray and foggy all the time, but I think has charm too. You should have visited other parts of the city as the zoo, or pre-Inca ruins.

The problem of going during the Southern summer is that is rainy season in the Andes and makes it extremely dangerous to visit Machu Picchu because of flash floods and landslides. Tourists have gotten trapped in Aguascalientes after a flood years ago. Train service was suspended and they had to be rescued by choppers. I would say best time to go to Peru altogether is end of March-April or November-beginning of December. Weather is much better in fall and spring rather than summer or winter.

Another thing is to avoid carrying lots of cash in your pockets. Peru is a beautiful country but also they are many thieves (pickpocket). And this accidents happen in the day and night. Try to just take with you a decent amount of money that you might be considering spending the day.. This is what I do. Every time I visit Peru and I’m planning to go shopping, I just take around 300-400 soles in cash( 200 dollars). Because there is a risk someone with a knife or gun can stop me and steal everything that I have with me ( this is true, unfortunately) That’s why I prefer taking just a few amount of cash that can cover my ride to and from the shopping mall, food , and the things I will be buying at the shopping mall(souvenirs, clothes,etc). And if I really like something else, and I’m out of cash, I can come back again, maybe the same day or the next day to go and get it.. It’s not a good idea to be wandering in the streets of Lima with lots of shopping bags, that can attract these “muggers”. It’s always better to have a ride ready as soon as you leave (in this case exiting the mall with your shopping bags) so you can go straight to your ride and be safe. ***If unfortunately you become a victim, DONT fight back, or Refuse to give your belonging, these people have guns and they will do everything to obtain their purpose.

Great Video I went to Peru in April 2018 with a good friend. We were there for 6 days, and managed to spend 2 days in lima, and the rest in the cusco area. We were somehow able to squeeze in Machu Picchu into our 6 day trip, granted we didn't sleep a lot. It is a must see if you ever go back to peru, the whole area surrounding it, known as the sacred valley is breathtaking as well.

Not going to lie, after seeing this comment I asked Maddie "What the heck is an iambic pentameter?!?" She proceeded to spend the next 15 minutes nerding out, telling me about Shakespeare, talking about grammar, high and low syllables, iambs, and some other things I'll probably never retain. 😂

@@TangerineTravels HAHA!!! The only trick I can teach you is to listen to your heart. ... I mean ... LITERALLY ... listen to your heart. It beats in iambs. dub-DUB, dub-DUB ... it's how English is spoken, and why some others, especially your friends in Mexico have a tougher time trying to do that. With pure vowels and accents on each word, and with a metrical delivery, Spanish is not conducive to iambs. I'm sure Maddie told you that when Shakespeare needed to make a special point, he speaks to the rhythm of the heart. Hence it's emotion. "What NOT to DO in LIma PEru. Outstanding!
