Do you know what to put in your blue recycling bin? Did you know that when you put the wrong material in the wrong recycling bin, it can literally ruin the entire batch at the recycling center?
In some cases, it can shut down the plant until a repairman can fix the issue. That’s because each recycling center processes different materials like glass and plastic very differently and they can’t always catch every inconsistency before it’s too late.
So it’s beneficial for us to make sure we’re making the job of the recycling center a little smoother! So what can and can't you put in the Blue Recycle Bin?

Thank you for this video! I don't think this is talked about often which is unfortunate considering how important it is! At my apartment complex I see so many people throwing regular trash into the recycling bin! It worries me how so many people are careless

one thing you can recycle bottle tops in all recycling bins just fill up a plastic bottel and put the lid on it and drop it in your recycling bin. this is then classed as mixed plastics and is recycled that way.

Thanks. Great info. LEGO pieces are another item that is a pain for municipal recycling programs, and need to be sorted out (since they may contain ABS, wires, tiny batteries, magnets, metal, etc). BrickRecycler.com accepts loose used (and new) Lego donations and put them to use. Legos deserve a great home, and they can be reused for generations too.

Throwing away Legos in some states a crime. Better check with local lego laws.

I would love to know what to do with all the thing you can't put in the blue bin. What do you mean with trash, is that the Brown bin, is it the black bin? I moved to Ireland from Belgium and it's driving me crazy. I'm afraid to chuck things out as I don't know where they belong...

Got a little secret to share. When your area recycling plant finishes sorting the items that are brought in.... they don't just "GIVE" the materials to plastic manufacturers... they "SELL" it to them for a huge profit margin. Since society is required by law to recycle, there is very little overhead for the recycling center, save for the small amount of sorting and rinsing (which is mostly automated by machinery that is purchased and maintained with your tax dollars). The profitability of these centers is very high. You probably didn't realize it, but you are getting robbed twice, each time you put your mandated recycling items on the curbside. Yep, first they creat a law that mandates your labor without any compensation for it; then, they sell the materials that you provide to them, without any compensation for your mandated contribution. 😃

Not a problem. It’s better recycled than put into landfills. Everything we do doesn’t need compensation, especially when we’re helping the planet the very small actions like this we can do. They need to get paid also or who would want to work at the recycling plants

@@Myeyesburnbabyburn , Obviously, you need to research it more thoroughly. Hundreds of tons of mixed "recycleable" waste is sold to foreign third world countries each day. However, only the various metals hold enough value to warrant the effort to recycle for a profit. The remaining 85% of plastic materials are burned in massive piles, as a means of disposal, and to create space for the next successive shipments, which will likewise be scavenged for metal content. All of the chemical pollutants are freely released into the atmosphere, untreated, during the open-air burning process. Yeah ... betcha didn't know. Think about the pointlessness of your efforts, the next time you are rinsing out a plastic peanut butter jar, to save the planet. I wish I was exaggerating, or making this stuff up, but its a sad fact. Edit: I have made it extremely easy for you to learn the truth, by simply clicking on the link below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWnEh4yYYsZqi9k

@@marshalllhiepler so what would you suppose ? We don’t try at all and don’t recycle cause it’s just waste. We can’t save the planet at this point we’re just on borrowed time so the least we can do is recycle and try to go green. Imo we should just stop producing so much fkn plastic and do a byo container for supplies like the self serve food options in winco. Just no winning

@@Myeyesburnbabyburn, I agree, that we are essentially screwed. The problem is that there are three types of people on the planet, with regards to recycling ... 1.) the majority who care 2.) the minority who don't give a damn, and 3.) the few that pretend to care, but are irresponsibly mismanaging recycling waste for personal gain.

Only recycle metal. Burn paper and plastic, it costs more energy to recycle them, unlike metal. Got an old couch a homeless man won't take? Just burn it! And for glass just landfill it because it's just sand, unless there's a glass bottle reuse program.
