As somebody who lives in South Africa, when we go to the local national parks, I see SO MANY tourists dressing inappropriately, this video is 100% accurate and exactly the kind of things that you need to do when you're in the bush(as we call it). I have seen so many youtubers even *cough Desi Perkins cough* dressing like you're heading to a PR event meanwhile you're actually sweating in the bush and the rest of us are laughing at you! Please take this couple's advice - its functional.

Main takeaways - wear khakis, long sleeves, no ball caps but large brimmed safari type hats, bring sunscreen & bug repellent, dress in layers and not heavy clothes! Thanks for posting!

I once took my prescription sunglasses out on safari and left my regular glasses at the accommodation, which became a pain when the sun inevitably set around 6pm (in Malawi)... this meant that I had to choose between no glasses (no vision), or sunglasses in the dark (no vision)... this probably won't affect most people, but worth keeping in mind!

It’s good to remember that in Southern Africa it does get very cold in early early morning on winter time. I was in South Africa in April and it was cold indeed when we left for the game drive at dawn. We were wearing two jackets plus the blanket provided by the ranger. But by late morning it was already warm. So dressing in layers is essential. Great videos as always, congratulations

Great video! We locals always chuckle at tourists who come to South Africa and obviously went all out on Safari gear and only packed that while walking the streets of Cape Town etc. So yes, pack a set or so of your "normal" clothes when you visit Africa and plan to go to the cities unless you really want to stand out from the crowd.

Avoid cottons which do not dry or let sweat out and make for much hotter clothing. Also it costs pennies to treat clothing with permethrin at a 2% dilution using a garden sprayer. It will keep insects from landing on your clothing and biting. Apply picaridin at 15-20% to exposed skin. For a hat get a real hat with a full brim and not a baseball cap.

Money exchange, at the airport there, or before we go .
