Very helpful advice. Aside from the tour guide tip, I’ll definitely use the tip box. It’s interesting because while the workers expect the tip, not all people who come for a safari are loaded with money and just doing the Safari has taken a lot of saving so it can put the traveller in an uneasy situation.

I visited Tanzania this past June. When I went on safari, I stayed at Elewana Migration Camp, it was beautiful, the Best trip ever! I recognized my safari driver Mokili in this video. He was great! Love your videos!

Very complicated system, You forgot to tip the animals, they are the only ones left! I believe tips should be included in total cost, so people could understand which tour they can afford to go!

our tour guide included the tip in the total cost of the safari so we didn't have to worry about it and dispersed it to staff, drivers and others at the end of our trip. If we wanted to offer additional tips to any particular person or persons we could do so.

Great advice. Going on a 10 day Safari in Tanzania in January and have been really enjoying your videos. For the Safari guide, I know you mention to tip at the end of the Safari but I wonder if it’s also good to tip during (such as half way point or even every day) to just show the guide that you are appreciating his service. Maybe a little boost of motivation to continue going above and beyond. Would that just seem weird?

Thanks Jeff, this is quite helpful! Choice of currency may also depend on location you're visiting. While USD is widely accepted, we found that sometimes folks asked for Euro because of better local exchange rates (e.g. in Namibia, at international airports in South Africa etc.). Certainly best to have local currency,

Why do these Americans interfere with everything? A $560/week tip is crazy. On what basis did you arrive at these numbers? This is what you tip on a Mediterranean cruise which is understandable since Europe is expensive to live in. Did you do some research on how much the average monthly salary is in Kenya/Tanzania/Zambia/Botswana?

I totally agree with you, the whole idea of tipping is ridiculous. I worked for over fifty years on not great wages and never had a tip once. Now certain sectors expect a tip and I’ve even heard of restaurant staff in America throwing a tip back at a customer because they felt it wasn’t enough. How ungrateful.
