If you play in the Key of C Major, why can't you just play the C Major pentatonic notes. They are the same notes: C major pentatonic: C, D, E, G, A A minor pentatonic: A, C, D, E, G You had said that you want to play in the minor pentatonic scale and if you are in a major key, then you find the relative minor. Since they are the same notes, do you use the term minor pentatonic to emphasize a tonal center? What would the actual difference be? When playing in C Major, do you still emphasize the minor pentatonic scale as a tonal center?

There's an easier way to know the set of keys in a pentatonic scale. It's just the 1,2,3 & 5,6 keys on the major scale, and this same set of keys on the relative minor scale

It is possible to play a (C) major song and use the (C) pentatonic minor. For example my left hand play I IV V (C F G) and my right hand play C-minor pentatonic. Blues artists does this all the time.
@tobiasolaistalaker4071 Жыл бұрын
It is! And they use it to get a minor 10th (this case Eb) and a dominant 7th (Bb) added into the melody. This is what gives it the bluesy feeling.

You can use minor blues scales over major chord progressions too and it sounds really good. Try it over the chords used in this video or over a 12 bar major blues. You won’t regret it 😁

Thanks for this video. For improvising in C mayor (A minor) and go through the keyboard as you did in this video, is better to know before hand, what key we don´t play , in this case B and F. For all tones, just don´t play the II and the VII notes of the scale. Please comment on this. How to learn fast make pentatonic scale? Just put our attention to learn all scale and don´t play the second and the seventh note of such scale? Best regards.
@reineh34772 жыл бұрын
It is the 2nd and 6th note you don't play. So minor pentatonic = 1 m3 4 5 m7. If you talk about the pentatonic major (C D E G A, in his example) it's the 4th and 7th note you don't play.

So if you are playing a song in the key of C Maj, does using the Am pentatonic scale only apply to the right hand for improvisation? I want to confirm that the left hand does not need to avoid B and F like it would with the right hand.
@jayswizzle57 Жыл бұрын
Can confirm. Am9 sounds great under Am blues scale. So does Fmaj7.

What does this mean? 2:24 "you always want to play in the minor key? when? I can't guess and it seems important
@jayswizzle57 Жыл бұрын
He means you always use the minor blues scale. Major blues scales have the same notes as their relative minors’ minor blues scale. So if you’re playing in a major key, find the relative minor blues scale and you’ll be playing the major blues scale.

Hi Simon. In my previous question regarding what backing track to use with the C minor pentatonic scale, you said I can use the C minor pentatonic over any diatonic progression that's in the key of C minor. So does that mean I can use a "backing track" that's in the key of C minor? Sorry for the question because I have such limited knowledge of music theory. Also, I got a question about backing tracks? Are backing tracks ideal for someone who doesn't want to play the chord progression manually with their left hand?

So great, Thank you very much, Please sir, how do connect cords? E.g the 736 251, When im playing the cords they sound scanty and boring, but when I hear others playing them there is a kind of improvise or arpeggio they add that make them sound fluently

Can you play the minor pentatonic scale over any chord?
@Piano_Pig6 жыл бұрын
As long as the chords are in the key of which the minor pentatonic is. For example, an A minor pentatonic scale would work over any chord progression in the key of Am.

Hey, just like the other videos, this one's been really helpful in my way to finally learn playing piano in some kind of way ^^ I just wanted to ask how comes that when you played the C-Minor Pentatonic you used Ab with the left hand, even though you didn't list it in the "usable notes" before. Sorry if I missed the explanation in the video
@cxomtdoh6 жыл бұрын
I was curious, so I went and looked at the C minor scale, which is what he's using - C D Eb F G Ab Bb C So, he's just going back and forth between a major three chord with 7th - (III; Eb, G, Bb, D, or semitone intervals of 3, 2, 3 from the third note in the scale) in second inversion (so move the top two notes an octave down, it's still the same chord -> Bb, D, Eb, G) and the other chord, a major sixth with 7th - (VI; Ab, C, Eb, B, or semitone intervals of 3, 2, 3 from the sixth note in the scale) Now, why to choose the major third and sixth over other chords - I have absolutely no insight, but the actual note Ab he's playing is just because he's playing C minor and that's a note in that scale. In the video he's just saying that when improvising, you should stick to the minor pentatonic in the melody/right hand because it doesn't have any notes that will sound strikingly bad if you hit them immediately after any other note in that scale. He's just alternating between two major chords in the left hand though so he's not really doing any guesswork where he has to worry about going outside the pentatonic. I don't know if that helps but that's what I got from it.

I may b e wrong but I see the left hand going from a C-9 (Bb D Eb G) to a C-6 (Ab C Eb G). Of course assuming the Natural Minor scale.

Why you can not improvise in major scale?
@Piano_Pig7 жыл бұрын
You absolutely can do! This lesson was simply explaining the easiest way for people to get into improvisation for the first time, and I think the minor pentatonic is the best scale for this. If you want to use the major scale, go for it! :)

@@Piano_Pig thank you for your videos! Am I correct in saying though that the minor pentatonic scale over the major chords you played has more of a jazz vibe to it? Could you tell me quickly what the progression was? I know it was C F A minor and G chords. Thanks again.
@gtoctane6 жыл бұрын
Hey @AS4 thought I'd throw my $0.02 in since it's been a couple months for master pig to respond. The minor pentatonic is played most commonly in pop, blues, rock and some jazz (if not including additions of blues or jazz scale notes). Think of the pentatonic as the skeleton scale for playing and improvising over the key signature of the song. The progression was a 1-4-6-5 which is what you hear in many famous pop/rock songs. You can also use the same scale over a basic 1-4-5 (C-F-G) if you want a blues feel to it. If you're looking for something jazzy, practice improving this scale over the 2-5-1 (Dm - G - C) This should sound familiar if you've heard the song "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5 which is a 2-5-1 with Dm9, G, C9 but Dm - G -C certainly works as well without the jazzy voicings.
