Finally subbed after watching a dozen or so vids on your channel! Can you talk a little bit about DA/AD convertors, high end vs budget and the practically of analogue summing mixers in a hybrid setup?

@moverofobjects in an upcoming video, I am exploring the importance of good converters. Comparing cheap converters to high-quality converters.

Allen Sides, when he bought equipment from Bill Putnam there were some Fairchilds and he thought its some old crappy equipment and he threw them away! He shared that in some interview...lol

Congratulations Paul!!!. I do not think if I had the money I would buy it. The upkeep with tubes and stuff. I never personally heard a Fairchild. Is it seriously worth it? Can you not get good compression with what you have? Please let me know.

Of course this is the thing is technically speaking it may not sound better than what we already have. It's more what it represents. The upkeep is the same for the UnFairchild

I've got 5 in a cupboard here. As much as I love the sound of tape, I'd much rather a more modern take on tape. The new Mcdsp tape emulation is actually really good a million times less hassle.

@@AudioAnimalsStudiohow does the mcdsp tape compare to plugins?
@AudioAnimalsStudio
@AudioAnimalsStudio 4 ай бұрын
@dharmaone77 it's really good. Tape plugins still have a very digital sound to them as they don't pass through any analogue components. The mcdsp tape sounds like a modern tape emulation with a more analogue tape sound. Low end sounds rich. Really nice tape emulation.

I love this podcast mate. I have $20K for upgrading my studio. Tell me what you think .. I'm adding the IGS 825EQ, the WesAudio ngTube EQ, Wes Audio ngBus compressor, BetterMaker Mastering Limiter, Black Box HG-2.... any suggestions?
@AudioAnimalsStudio
@AudioAnimalsStudio 4 ай бұрын
That's an awesome chain I'd be proud of. Only thing I feel you miss is a good compressor. Assuming you don't have one. The NG bus comp is brilliant as a bus comp but you'll want a mastering compressor also. I'd say either swap the bus comp for a mastering compressor or add something like the spl iron or similar. The blackbox is great but they have a new one coming soon which is going to be a big upgrade. I don't know how far that is away though. Wes Audio will also do a compressor for the NG line. That just seems logical. So that could be one to wait for.

@@AudioAnimalsStudiowhat mastering compressors would you recommend? I thought the Wes Audio Bus Comp would be useful for mastering
@AudioAnimalsStudio
@AudioAnimalsStudio 4 ай бұрын
@officialdiomer it's a mix bus compressor. You could use it for mastering if you really wanted, but as someone that has one I use it in mastering at the beginning of my chain not as my mastering compressor. The Elysia Alpha compressor is incredibly good. The SPL iron is also really good. Those would be my recommendation.

having a Fairchild is every engineer's dream. But £35k vs £15k. Is the sound going to be £20k better?
@AudioAnimalsStudio
@AudioAnimalsStudio 4 ай бұрын
Well this is what I said in the video. It's probably not £20k better but it's also what a fairchild represents. It's the pull it has on clients because of what it is. If they turned out to be identical, I'd still want the fairchild because of what it is. The UnFairchild is a faithful recreation but is still a clone of the original. Also, it's subjective of how much £20k is worth to each person. Let's say it's 2% better. To some people, that's silly money for 2% better. For me, someone who is constantly in pursuit of the best sound it costs what it costs. I honestly don't think I'll hear it and instantly say OMG that's a £36k compressor it's 8x better than the SPL iron and 3x better than the UnFairchild. I may be wrong.

@AudioAnimalsStudio
@AudioAnimalsStudio 4 ай бұрын
I disagree. It'll be all AI plugins that have an AI sound to them. Just look at AI pictures. You can tell them apart when compared to a painting. They have a digital look. Same can be said for audio. You can hear AI and digital processing in the sound. In 10 years much like is it today it's the superior sound of analogue that separates artists. This is why more people now more than ever over the past 10 years are buying into analogue. They want the edge over the next guy.
