All I can think of is what Flume once said.... Nothing is more powerful than a DAW, sylenth, and a $99 keyboard.
@renwhit43718 жыл бұрын
Do you produce? I've played drums all my life but I really want to get into digital sound
@TG-ru4fd8 жыл бұрын
Yes. Playing drums would give you a head start. It's good to know music theory which you can get cheat sheets for when writing out songs. I've produced for two years but never released anything as it takes a lot of practice to perfect and learn things like audio engineering (sylenth). But like I said, playing drums may give you that rhythmic start. It's about as expensive as buying a new xbox one and a couple of games. Ask me any questions if you'd like.
@renwhit43718 жыл бұрын
I actually do know basic music theory and I play piano a little bit. I'm just not sure where to start. I want to get something where I could make melodies and chord progressions and such but I also want some pads for beats. Would a midi keyboard work? and if so, How could I export from the midi software to lets say soundcloud or something?

i have Massive and Trash-2, and that's about it for plug-ins for me so far. haven't been investing into music much since i wasted like 200 total on Vocaloid software and Cyber Diva, which isn't as good as i was hoping for btw. i keep hearing buzz about Serum, but i am fine with Massive for now. i am interested in Ozone though, since my mastering has been kinda ghetto (i use Audacity's Hard Limiter after bouncing out the master from Ableton). i may consider Serum someday, but i am more interested in getting Olympus Elements Choir, and perhaps the Nocturne Violin synth by Synthtopia. i would get the choir before the strings, since i have made Ableton's strings work, more or less... i mean, i am on the fence, i would like a better strings synth, but paying 300+ dollars is a lot for me on my income.

if i had to pick my favorite plugins i would pick 1.Omnisphere ( awesome soundscapes and pads ) 2.Glitch2 ( my favorite plugin )
@SoundsFromSound8 жыл бұрын
+Thomas Bond Omnisphere 2 is certainly not a rompler. Nexus is a rompler. In Omnisphere, you can import your own samples and manipulate them just like you would if you were synthesizing a sound inside of it. That makes the synth immensely more powerful for sound design.

Can you make a video on mixing and saturation? Don't have to go into full detail but so many people say don't boost eq, some say do. And what you use saturation on. I always get stuck trying to finish a track cause I over think everything and my mixes never come anywhere close to what I listen to on Soundcloud. Can you show the steps you take to make a professional mix. Maybe the cuts you use with abletons eq8. And maybe the order YOU use to do things to get that track finished and closer to a more professional outcome. I know that's a lot. Maybe point me in the right direction. Anyways, huge fan! And I love your videos! !

I've been doing this for years and have gone so far down the rabbit hole that I'm to that point were I can almost see the whole picture. I don't know what the hell I'm missing. Lol I need a mentor for working in the box so when I'm on the road I can write and not be discouraged. Thanks again man. Dude. what about EQ and Compressors. personally i like the fabfilters for mixing and mastering. Their pro bundle is cheaper than izotope. Serum is the beast though.
@MultiplierSounds8 жыл бұрын
+BlackFrost while a nice plugin EQ and/or compressor is nice, for 99% of what people do in music, the built in ones do a good enough job. Certainly I wouldn't call them necessary, just a nice luxury
@BlackFrostt8 жыл бұрын
+Multiplier it is true that for many itkay be considered a luxury because they're happy with the in the box eq and compressor, I found quite a difference since I started using a good eq and a multiband compressor. It just improves the workflow and makes the work easier. Maybe it's just a personal thing. Whatever works out I guess. cheers

but Massive can have Parallel Filters. Thats better than with Serum (1 Main Filter and 1 Filter in the FX Section). Just Mentioning, every Synth got its limit. Except Reaktor. There u just build your own Synth for everything.
@Deceitful938 жыл бұрын
Reaktor's limit is that you really need to know what you're doing to do anything. And you can modulate the EQ in Massive to have yet another filter, which you can route whichever way you want. Love Massive.
@TripleTSingt8 жыл бұрын
***** thats not a limit, because you can learn these things. serum can't learn to have a second filter (except maybe steve patching it)
@Deceitful938 жыл бұрын
If we treat Reaktor as a synthesizer, it is a limit, because ease of use is a selling point for many synths, and is what I meant. However, Reaktor is a better treated as a platform for synth design, in which case it is stellar. If you've purchased Serum, you can also download SerumFX and utilize additional filters, though in my case it doesn't seem like you can modulate them.
@Paradroidx8 жыл бұрын
synth would be Diversion... its a little cpu hog, but the sound is the best.

Plugins from different companies do better things at others, Ozone is shit.. It's like a quick plugin for people that don't understand what mastering is, you have to look at dynamic ranges of other songs for reference theres a great vst by Brainworx for this, Also it dosen't matter what "Synth" vst you have, any synth you can re-create any sound if you know what your doing even with stock synth plugins. can even get free synth vsts that does the job. Don't need lessons from this guy telling you what you should have / or do. Only thing ever stopping you is the creativity
@MultiplierSounds8 жыл бұрын
you can make most types sounds with most synths. to get the most innovative or best sounds, you really need one of the top tier synths, like Serum
@ThirdFocusMusic8 жыл бұрын
Yeah synths can re-create most sounds, but Not really with Serum part, Look at noisia or people who doing insane sound design the key is Re-sampling, with shit tons of effects no matter what synth they using they always re-sample it even if its basic saw synth etc
