Big fan of your channel! I am currently a senior year nursing student getting ready to make the plunge of being an RN in the ER, as I get my BSN in May. As I have become exposed more to what the physician does throughout my internship and my clinical rotations, i've had a strong desire to ultimately become an internal medicine physician. However, I would like to work as an RN for a number of years to pay off my undergrad debt and get more experience with caring for patients. Any words of advice related to my situation before I apply to medical school?

Hi Med School Insiders, I see a lot of videos of you talking about pre-med, but getting into pre-med is really hard to get into right? I am in high school 11th grade, and I just want to know what it takes to become a pre-med, like get into life or health sciences. Please respond because I am very confused.
@Sam-el5ue11 ай бұрын
Getting into premed itself isn’t to bad but genuinely go have a look at his study series it makes it significantly easier
@jules-ferrytoussomkameni9011 ай бұрын
There is no major name premed. It is just a term used to categorize students who are taking med school prerequisites. You can take any majors( political sciences, English, engineering etc...), but because you are taking those prerequisites classes for medical school applications, you can call yourself a premed.
@R0SEIYN11 ай бұрын
Hii! Freshmen in college here, anyone can be premed in college since it’s more like a track rather than a major or program. It’s just maintaining the grades that are required that is difficult. Since your in high school I would recommend looking into “Direct medical programs (also known as combined BA/MD or BS/MD programs)” , something I wish I knew about sooner. There’s so many opportunities available to high school students so definitely looking into it helps tremendously in preparing for pre med!

Is it okay if I were to complete research within the Psychology Department as a pre-med? I do find the subject interesting.
@esmeraldavillalobos914311 ай бұрын
Yes, always pursue your interests. If you get asked about it in med school interviews you’ll be able to speak of it more enthusiastically than research you don’t care about.
@AmitPandey-thepremedparadox11 ай бұрын
Yes absolutely would be ok. Psychology research can still be medically related and be a valuable experience in future applications. Always a great idea to pursue your genuine interests!

What is a physician’s assistant?
@AmitPandey-thepremedparadox11 ай бұрын
A physician's assistant is a healthcare professional who works alongside/under the supervision of physicians providing direct medical care to patients either in a clinic or hospital setting. It requires a 2-3 year graduate degree for training. It is a great alternative option to medical school for those interested. We cover this, and many other alternative healthcare professional roles, in detail in The Premed Paradox. Check out the book for more!

While that definition is correct, the title is physician assistant, not physician's assistant.

It's not too old, but assuming premed is at least 3 years, and you wanna do primary care, you'll be ~38 by the time you finish residency and ~45-48 by the time you pay off your debt. Something to keep in mind.
