I’d love to see your approach to miking drums! Everyone’s is different and I’ve got a drum session next Sunday, so if anything happens to come out by then I fully plan on trying stuff out

I definitely will at some point between session work. That kind of video would be more involved but fun!

@@ProducerJosh I’m gonna be attempting something similar for a drum session I have this weekend so let’s see if I have the aptitude to make something

Awesome Josh. It would be great if you did the same with the bass, guitar and vocals please!!

Thank you so much! I think I might try that! I’ve already got some ideas on similar types of tips for the other instruments. It’s so much more than just recording 😁

Great tips! Tuning is so essential! every player will tune differently for themselves and in every room. it makes a band sound more unique too! vs using sampled drums everywhere.

The room really can alter how a drum can resonate. I run into all kinds of cooky things while tuning drums in different rooms or with different sets. I think a snare has a lot of character on the kit usually

@@ProducerJosh 💯 exactly! Especially the snare!

Thanks! I could probably do a whole video just touring the room 😂

how do I get the drummer to practice before the session? like...for a year or two, until they're good at drums
@ProducerJosh Жыл бұрын
Isn’t that the magic question. Promising some Food and beer is always a great incentive 😉😂

Vague question- I’m curious how much you would clip a snare in a rock mix? If you do that sort of thing! Clip it as much as you can get away with? I’m using Kazrogs Kclip. Thanks Josh!
@ProducerJosh3 ай бұрын
I don’t clip it too much. It gets a little clipping but also ends up in a drum buss. If anything the master buss clips it a bit more as I limit

I often clash with sound guys because I refuse to cut a hole in my bass drum head. I find that it deadens the sound of the bass drums and you lose its personality. Not sure what the opinions are but I'm curious to hear them.
@ProducerJosh Жыл бұрын
I totally get that. Curious if you’ve ever thought to mount a mic on the inside and run a cable out of the drum. (There’s multiple systems like this) could help ease the sound guys that give ya trouble. I personally use a port hole for recording, but I mic the outside head still too. The combo gives me what I want over just one mic. Also depends on the vibe too. Old school stuff works with no port very well
