From an audio engineering perspective, I dont get todays modern mixing sonic target, like why does everything need to sound overprocessed and plasticy. I love old records for not only the performances but for the sonic aestethics back then were way more musical, and the engineers back then really knew their craft! There was a high skill ceiling to get in a studio and mix on a nice console. Engineering is sadly becoming a lost art.

some say tuning a guitar to get it exact after you do the tips you have said basically you should be tuning your guitar to the Harmonics at the 12 fret a harmonic is basically the true note you are tunning for when you tune to a note like you say you are basically tuning to a notes fundamentals as well which is not exact i would say with you starting with the high E STRING and working to B G D A E STRINGS THIS IS ALSO GOOD FOR THE GUITAR NECK

Interesting Josh, for number two I've always tuned to the decay not the attack. Seems to work for me. When I'm playing I pay attention to the guitar tuning and make adjustments if they are needed.

There's no such thing as an in tune guitar and fiddling about like that just makes it worse. The reason why you may think it is in tune is because of you and providing the context to the notes that arise in a piece of music, which is in motion. Your mind and sense perception are not passive receptors of what you hear, they're active and they modify the sound. When you hear a piece of music you're reproducing the source of the sound that's on the outside. Some sources are pure notes, some are equal temperament. Unless it's way off, your mind will adjust to create the impression the piece of music is in tune. But if you pull the piece of music apart and just play bits of it you lose the context and you'll notice the bits and notes are not in tune. Some of the singing in your head hits the pure notes. That sets a standard. People think colour is on the outside. No, it's on the inside. You can't track the speed of light and you can't track the speed of sound either.

Guitars DO NOT TUNE. Either do a bit of in depth research into temperaments and such, or get a Peterson with offsets and let someone with the knowledge solve it for you. Guitars DO NOT TUNE...mic drop.

Das waren nur ganz grobe Hinweise mit dem Stimmen für Anfänger. Ein Teil wurde bereits angesprochen - und zwar die mechanische Komponente, die z. B. beim Bending auftritt. Doch auch dies wurde nicht konsequent weiterverfolgt. Es ist nämlich so, dass die Saite, wenn man sie bendet, sich nach einer Weile wieder erholt und dann eventuell auch zu hoch ist, wenn man zuerst sehr stark bendet und dann noch einmal nachstimmt. Was überhaupt nicht berücksichtigt wurde - und das ist ein sehr wichtiger Faktor - ist die temperierte Stimmung der Gitarre und das dem Menschen angeborene harmonische Gehör. Erst wenn man diese beiden Faktoren miteinander vereinbaren kann, bekommt man eine perfekt gestimmte Gitarre. Das verwendete Stimmgerät im Video war übrigens viel zu grob in seiner Anzeige - damit bekommt man keine perfekt gestimmte Gitarre hin. Für einen Anfänger reicht das zwar aus, aber ein professioneller Spieler merkt, dass die Gitarre danach immer noch nicht so ganz toll klingt. Nun aber zum Problem mit der temperierten Stimmung und unserem harmonischen Gehör: Problematisch dabei sind eigentlich nur zwei Intervalle, die für das Ohr gut klingen müssen - das ist die Quint und die große Terz. Hinzu kommt dann natürlich auch noch der im Video angesprochene Effekt, wie stark man die Saiten mit der linken Hand drückt. Wenn man ein sehr genaues Stimmgerät verwendet (mindestens auf 1/10 Cent genau) wird man merken, dass die Anzeige permanent hin- und her schwankt. Dies wird auch noch durch die Anschlagstärke beeinflusst. Am Anfang des Anschlags (ca. 1/2 bis 1 Sekunde) klingt die Saite immer ein kleines bisschen höher und wird dann tiefer. So fragt man sich, nach welchem Ton man sich überhaupt orientieren soll - am Anfangston oder am Ausklang? Das sind zwar Feinheiten - aber die spielen letztendlich eine Rolle, wenn man die Gitarre perfekt stimmen will. Dazu kann ich nur raten: Mit mittlerer Anschlagstärke die Saite anschlagen und die Saite dann so stimmen, dass im ersten kurzen Moment die Anzeige des Stimmgeräts zu hoch anzeigt und anschließend der Ton als zu tief angezeigt wird. Selbstverständlich wird auch noch das eingebracht, was Producer Josh über das Benden bereits gesagt hat - aber man darf nicht zu stark benden, denn die Saite erholt sich mit der Zeit wieder - höchstens über zwei Halbtöne benden. Wenn die Arbeit mit dem Stimmgerät abgeschlossen ist, widmet man sich dem Problem mit der Quint und der großen Terz. Dazu arpeggiert man ganz simpel zuerst einen C-Dur Akkord vom C an bis zur hohen e-Saite. Die problematische Stelle ist die leere g-Saite, weil diese die Quint repräsentiert. Ist sie zu tief, klingt es grauenhaft. Ist sie aber für unser Gehör ganz genau gestimmt, ist sie nicht mehr temperiert - und dies hat zur Folge, dass dann das a auf dem 2. Bund der g-Saite zu hoch ist. Das muss also ganz haarfein gehört werden. Wenn man glaubt, die g-Saite richtig hinbekommen zu haben, muss auch noch auf die Quart vom g zum c gehört werden (Wechsel von der g zur h Saite, bei welcher der 1. Finger auf dem c liegt). Wenn man dann das Gefühl bekommt, dass es sich grauenhaft hoch anhört, wenn man von g nach c spielt, wird man die g-Saite noch winzig höherdrehen müssen, so dass die Quart etwas kleiner wird. Wenn das gut klingt, muss noch die hohe e-Saite gut dazu passen. Dies bekommt man auch dadurch heraus, wenn man sich genau die große Terz anhört, die vom 1. Finger auf dem 1. Bund der h-Saite zur leeren e-Saite entsteht. Wenn diese große Terz als zu groß empfunden wird, muss man tatsächlich die hohe e-Saite winzig tiefer stimmen. Auch wenn das Stimmgerät anderer Meinung ist. Das sind nur totale Feinheiten, die nur professionelle Spieler hören (für die Profis selbst sind es natürlich keine Feinheiten mehr, sondern deutlich wahrnehmbare Unterschiede) - und dabei selbstverständlich ihren Fingerdruck mit einbeziehen. Nach dem C-Dur Akkord macht man das selbe mit dem E-Dur Akkord. Vor allem muss man darauf hören, wie der Übergang von der 4. Saite zur 3. Saite sich anhört - also die große Terz vom e auf der D-Saite zum gis auf der g-Saite. Und zuletzt nimmt man noch den D-Dur Akkord. Dabei kommt es auf die Quint an, die von der leeren D-Saite zum a auf der g-Saite gebildet wird. Wenn die vorausgegangene Stimmprozedur korrekt abgelaufen ist, wird diese Quint auch befriedigend klingen - wenn nicht, muss noch einmal nachjustiert werden. Ebenso muss man beim D-Dur Akkord auf die große Terz hören, die beim Übergang von der h-Saite zur hohen e-Saite entsteht - und zwar vom Ton d zum Ton fis. Sollte da etwas nicht stimmen, muss nachkorrigiert werden. Und wenn dies korrigiert wurde, prüft man zur Sicherheit noch einmal mit dem C-Dur und dem E-Dur Akkord alles durch. Das alles liest sich zwar sehr lang und klingt vielleicht komplex - aber am Instrument ist das eine Sache von wenigen Sekunden, sofern man ein gut entwickeltes Gehör hat. Diese Tipps sind auch nichts für Anfänger - denn die hören diese Feinheiten überhaupt noch nicht. Aber man kann sie dazu schulen, dass sie dies im Laufe der Zeit hören. Selbstverständlich setze ich eine richtig eingestellte Gitarre voraus - denn wenn die Stegreiter nicht richtig platziert sind, würde das in den oberen Griffbrettlagen dann nicht stimmen. Viele Gitarristen sind auf dem Wege ihrer Entwicklung zunächst ein bisschen hilflos, wenn sie zwar mit dem Stimmgerät alles genau richtig gemacht haben, aber trotzdem das Gefühl haben, dass die Gitarre noch nicht so ganz gut klingt. Sie wissen dann nicht, wo der Fehler liegt - und der liegt eben immer bei diesen beiden Intervalllen, die ich beschrieben habe: Der Quint und der großen Terz. Deshalb prüft man diese am besten mit diesen simplen drei Akkorden, die ich erwähnte. Jumbo-Bünde verstärken das Problem mit der Stimmung enorm - denn da wirkt sich die Kraft der linken Hand viel stärker aus auf das Stimmverhalten, besonders, wenn man dann Akkorde in einer höheren Griffbrettlage spielt. Manchmal sieht man sogar, dass Gitarristen versuchen, mittels der Flageolett-Töne die Gitarre zu stimmen. Das kann aber nicht funktionieren, weil dabei temperierte Töne mit harmonischen Tönen verglichen werden. Man muss beim Stimmen einer Gitarre eines verstehen: Es handelt sich dabei um ein temperiert gestimmtes Instrument - und die temperierte Stimmung kann n i e total rein klingen, denn sie ist ja bewusst "falsch" gestimmt, damit man in allen Dur- und Moll-Tonarten spielen kann. Man kann nur versuchen, sie so harmonisch wie nur möglich auf der Gitarre hinzubekommen beim Stimmen. Bei Tonintervallen von zum Beispiel einer großen oder kleinen Sekunde spielt das keine Rolle - aber die große Terz und die Quint haben es in sich - die wollen ganz genau justiert sein, damit es für unser harmonisch angeborenes Gehör noch gut klingt.

Viewer tip number pineapples: Tune the largest string first, and the thinnest string last. Else the large strings will cause your tuning to go all whack and you need to tune more often.

I don’t mix on AirPods but I’ve been using my AirPods to test my mixes. Using AirPods is like taking a black light to a hotel room. You’re going to see all the gross parts really quickly. I hear stuff that I totally can’t hear from my studio monitors. I think my studio setup has a better balance but the AirPods is closer to hearing it like a music consumer does. It’s actually pretty convenient to test my mixes with AirPods. I print the track and it’s instantly available on my network hard drive and so I can access it and play it right from my iPhone. I can walk away and just listen for a few minutes and take a break from my computer screen.

I was at the Coach House in Dana Point Ca. in 1998 watching Robin Trower playing with his band . If you know Robin’s work , you know he is a great guitarist . They used to call him the white Jimi Hendrix . Check him out on KZbin . Well he played the whole show with his guitar out of tune from the rest of his band , which only was a drummer , bass player , and singer and Robin on lead guitar . I told all my friends he was out of tune and they said he sounded great . I couldn’t believe the guy doing the mixing board didn’t hear it . But when he did the Encore , he changed his guitar and that one was in perfect tune . At the time I had been playing the guitar since I was 12 years old . And this was 1998 so I was 12 in 1973 . So I had been playing for 25 years already . I knew he was out of tune .

That's a nice Le's Paul in video. I won't buy and epiphones because the neck on mine was nowhere near comfortable as the true Gibson and My switches shorted out on My epiphone les Paul so I decided not to invest in purchasing switches and rewiring it so next les Paul I get if I get one will be the 2000 dollar Gibson not the 300 dollar epiphone I had to throw away because of garbage wiring from factory but I had to compliment that guitar. I learned to play on really crappy guitars with high action........later in life using well made and set up guitars I noticed I was pulling separate strings while playing chords that made the chord sound"sour" and finally I realized I was still (in my mind) playing those crappy guitars. Once I relaxed (it took awhile) things cleaned up. I call this my vice grip problem and still have to concentrate on playing easier....old haits die hard.PARENTS TAKE HEED buy your kid the best you can afford and set it up so there is no Vice Grip issues .

When a string is sharp to begin with, I've been a total believer in TUNING BELOW PITCH & THEN COMING BACK UP TO PITCH for decades. Yet nowadays, I see most guitarists NOT doing this.......even some of the greatest guitar players simply "tuning DOWN to pitch". Just 2 examples are: one of the top Nashville session men & true gunslinger Tom Bukovac, as well as acoustic guitarist JD Cormier...........and it literally drives me nuts to watch them do that.........even though I am in total awe of their playing & prowess.

You missed the point like nearly everybody (except for e.g. Slash & Brian May): guitars have to have a zero fret or have to be compensated at the saddle. If you do not know what that does and why it's important - what I am sure you do not know, probably never heard about it - learn something about physics and oscillating strings especially on fretted instruments. All in all your video is superflous and more on the stupid side. Nothing new or helpful except for complete idiots. :-(( Go back to square one and learn before you blabber about any issue.

After tuning a string, tap the harmonic on that string's 12th fret and see if it reads the same on the tuner. If not, then that string's intonation needs adjustment, otherwise, each of the notes you play on that string will be slightly off tune.
