I saw Anand Gandhi’s Ship of Theseus and Right here, right now, and didnt take long to realize that this guy is at a different level when it comes to story telling. Keep pushing the envelope Prakhar.

Most Indians view cinema as a form of escapism and when they are confronted with something different the mind rejects it instantly. Anand Gandhi is one of the best in India but I wish he would have less of a fascination with obscure stuff. Look at the film makers he names - Bela Tarr, Haneke's white ribbon, Roy Andersson.

I think Anand better described what he means by art succeeding science in his appearance at Kamra's show. It is simplistic but, as Anand said while recounting his childhood anecdote, metaphor is something that transcends quantification, in the sense of quantification being able to impart meaning to us. He gives the example of reading something like, "What's darker than kajal (kalank), what's heavier than the earth (sin)" etc and appreciating the communicative power of a metaphor for the first time. This idea is in some sense similar to the idea of what lies beyond Turing numbers in theoretical computer science and mathematics, that is transfinites, Church-Kleene ordinal and all the other associated concepts. It's exciting that these concepts could potentially be able to describe unquantifiable but cognizable and meaningful communication.

Great job mate. Just a humble suggestion: I know you know Hindi, just study a little bit more of the vocabulary -- read some short stories by Premchand, perhaps -- and then go on to interviewing folks in that langauge as well. There's lot many Hindi-speakers I know who want to hear intellectual thought and you'd hit that sweet, sweet niche.

Thank you for such an engaging conversation!! Imo Anand Gandhi is the most important Indian filmmaker till date. A small note, your question about the rhythm in Parasite seemed a bit off.

Anand Gandhi says he finds Martin Scorsese's Cinema more closer to Avengers. I wonder what he thinks of Taxi Driver.
@fincholaantarsese8613 жыл бұрын
It's not about the direction. It's about the . Anand is way away from violence. Martin Scorsese movies are on the other side of the spectrum.

@@fincholaantarsese861 I have heard Anand praising Paul Thomas Andersen for making Hard Eight at the age of 26 and Hard Eight is certainly not "away from violence" So certainly violence is not the reason Anand dislikes Scorsese.

Slavery has been transformed into capitalism and corporate jobs. Economic struggle continues to exist. Slavery in its best form provided economic guarantee, and did not prevent a person to pursue his passion.

I watched Ship of Theseus and thought, if it's only 'evolutionary biology' and cells, let me kill myself and end this meaningless shit once and for all. Naa hogi pain, na pleasure. And the pain of closer ones? They too will turn dust one day.
