Hi, I’m glad you find the channel useful. Work hard because the grades count but they’re not everything so don’t get too down- if you want to do ophthalmology it’s a great field! Keep up the hard work, medical school is tough, but it will pay off in the end.

Typically there will be PhDs who work with the ophthalmology departments who may be looking for help. Also, most attending physicians at academic institutions will be involved in clinical research and often can use assistance from medical students or residents. I will keep this video idea in mind but I fear I don’t have enough to say on the topic

The question is how the program knows that you have these skills ? during interviews ? In my opinion still the Usmle score, research, and LORs your chance to match into competitive specialty 🤔 Thanks for the video 😘

These things definitely bare more weight for fellowship I would say. However, this is where away rotations for residency can be a huge plus in my opinion because you actually can show these attributes :)

Thanks for the great video! We know that for residency application, one of the most important factors is clerkship evaluation (in Canada we call the Dean's letter or Medical Student Performance Record (MSPR)). Does this principle (e.g. residency clinical evaluation for fellowship application) apply equally when applying to fellowship?

Great comment and question. I would say letters of recommendation and word of mouth are even more important for fellowship applications. As the pool of applicants becomes smaller and smaller as you further subspecialize the fellowship preceptors know each other more and talk with each other about applicants.
