I have no degree and work as a BA. One of my coworkers always brags about his Masters from USC and I basically trained the guy and he always runs to me for help. I need a raise. But I climbed the ranks in a Utility Company from working from the field to office. Was a grind but it’s possible.

I think someone needs to show this guy a recent BA job requirement. The qualifications he is listing are not what most companies are running after. They want someone who knows MS Visio, Data Modeling, Process Modeling, Data Analysis, Data Visualization and so forth. Also never do certification until you have gained few years of experience. IIBA will not allow you to sit in the exam until you have completed around 4500 hours of BA or so (I am not sure the exact number). The best route: first complete BA training (learn all the tools, babok guide etc) then get a BA job, gain some experience, apply babok guide principles to work and few years later get certification. You may not need certification after all when you have learnt and applied babok's principles yourself

Nope those are two different certifications. ECBA is for entry certificate in BA and Scrum Master is specifically for Business Analysts wanting to become Scrum Masters in the Agile Methodology.

Yes that will help. You can always do a masters in something like information systems or try and get more certifications. Entry level shouldn't be hard as you don't need that much experience.

Also, do you think post grad is necessary? I mean what if i just want to do a certification/s on this subject? would that hold the same weight as a post grad degree? IT is ever evolving and cant keep on doing masters right?

Post grad would obviously be ideal but it isn't a must. If you are okay with entry level BA position, then I would go ahead and try to get certifications/internships and then apply to those positions.

Getting certified in any field is an absolute plus. Since you mentioned ' beginner ', consider getting the Entry Certificate in Business Analysis from International Institute of Business Analysis. It is brilliant that you have a Masters, certainly gives you an edge but does not edge over real work experience, familiarize yourself with the BABOK guide and additional trainings would do you good. These were just my two cents, good luck.
