In The Fifth Estate’s very first episode which aired in September 1975, co-host Adrienne Clarkson investigated what led to the deadliest plane crash in the Canadian Arctic and the flawed inquest that followed. The plane was operated by Panarctic Oils and was transferring workers from Edmonton to a job site in the Far North. When key evidence wasn’t brought forward during an inquest into what happened, rumours of a coverup swirled.
The Fifth Estate is marking its 50th year of investigative journalism. Watch the 1975 documentary “Death at 100 Below” and more from the show’s files on KZbin.
