If you go around asking people about the top car builders in the business, chances are you'll hear the name Boyd Coddington. But we're not just talking about your everyday factory cars here. We're talking about hot rods! These are the big, attention-grabbing, and seriously sexy cars that were born during the Golden Age of car culture. And Boyd Coddington, well, he's one of the legendary builders known for creating these bold and captivating machines.
Anyone familiar with hot rods should know that Boyd Coddington has been responsible for building some of the sweetest hot rods in existence. He transformed the backyard hobby of tattooed guys in T-shirts into a high-end car customizing industry. As the owner of the Boyd Coddington Hot Rod shop, he gained further fame through the reality TV show American Hot Rod, which aired on the Discovery Channel.
The show provided an inside look at Boyd and his crew as they crafted breathtaking hot rods and custom vehicles. However, it wasn't just smooth sailing; the show was filled with frequent conflicts, intense arguments, and a high turnover rate among staff members. After a successful run of five seasons, the shop eventually closed, and the show went off the air in 2007. Join us as we find out what really happened to Boyd Coddington from American Hot Rod!

Never a fan as he treated people like crap , Foose on the other hand survived and is my favorite car guy . Much respect for this down to earth car guy.

Boyd Coddington may have been talented, but if the way he appeared on the show was reality and not a staged act for television, he was not a great human being.

@@jamessanders6788 I thought about what you said, and what I said is actually kind of messed up. Boyd clearly was a toxic guy who was insecure about his “competition” and allowed his little henchman Duane to bully his subordinates and did nothing about it other than a conversation which had no effect. It is possible that all that hostility was staged drama for the show, and I’m pretty sure that some of what was shown was “modified” by producers. But Boyd Coddington and Duane (I forget his last name) were real people. Their business existed. If they weren’t like that in reality, they would not displayed such egregious behavior on camera that way. Did they sign a contract without being clearly aware they would be required to act like tyrannical ***holes on camera? If so, that’s sad. However, the way they acted was genuine and believable. It would take some chops for a nice guy to pull off the things Boyd did on the show. Last I checked, Duane and Boyd are not known thespians.

@@jamesbowers5946 Good to hear. I am guilty of initial reactions that can be of the extreme bent as well occasionally. I am sure Boyd had a way of being a prick when it comes to things he was particular about, as I do recall the drama from the show. But remember this was in the early stages of reality TV and I can clearly remember thinking that most of it was an act for ratings and the producers encouraged it. (Same as I would eventually think American Choppers was over the top for audience.) The show was competing with American Choppers for viewers; Can't Miss TV - the drama pulled the American eyes and crossover viewers in. Hell, for a perfect example, look at Real Housewives of Who Cares... that crap is so fake, but it pulled people in that are into that messiness and theatrics. Now look at the influence... that way is real life for fans that try to play out the same drama at home. But I disgress. Either way, I have a fond spot for Boyd Coddington because his design was revolutionary and I remember it so vividly in my youth. RIP to the fella.

Many of the people he had working were unemployable, the kid that had the accident and Charlie working behind his back, I have had all that and one day i sacked all 70 plus of people that attended jobs we were doing, it is very difficult to be in business, you should try it sometime.
