I had braces in my 20's and found out afterward that with the upper retainer, I never got brain freeze. My retainer had thick plastic that insulated the roof of my mouth. I loved it. Yesterday I decided to have a frozen margarita & fashioned my own 'retainer' out of moldable plastic. I messed up a bit and only covered half the roof of my mouth. Turns out for some reason this time it made the brain freeze worse and I actually passed out. It could not be alcohol because it happened only 3 sips in. I took the faux retainer out and was ok afterwards. I had no idea that could happen. Maybe the retainer caused the cold to not dissipate as quickly and actually retained the cold, worsening the brain freeze? Weird stuff.

I had the worst brain freeze of my life earlier that's why I looked it up. It was the worst one in my entire life. I was screaming and rolling in the floor it was sheer torture. I ran to the kitchen and turned on the hot water and drank it and it immediately subsided. It is such an unbelievable relief. I do not have migraines. This was like having a steel rod soaked in liquid nitrogen shoved through your entire skull. When it was over I had tears rolling down my face.

Scientists also haven't been able to figure out the science behind tears - why do we cry, why do humans sleep for such long hours compared to other animals and why do our fingers get wrinkly when exposed to water for long.
@prakash_776 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that one was proved by a study back in 2013. My bad.
@Atomas696 жыл бұрын
Our fingers get wrinkly when exposed to water for long beacause whrn cells touch water, water molecules "puff up" (blow up) and they get bigger(also weakening the cells making you more vulnerable to cuts and shraps) so as they get bigger the cells dont get enough room, causing tgem to mount on top of each other and making your fingers wrinkly.

At the 1:40 minute mark it's not that the blood is flooded into but it's caused from the tips of your fingers being so cold it restricts the blood flow and the constant pressure behind those fingers is what gives you the pain. It's not the kidney stone that gives you the pain, it's the kidney stone blocking the fluid which causes the tube coming from the kidney, I hope you like my medical terms, to fill up and that expansion is what gives you the pain. I'll keep watching and make sure you read my other comments!

I think having the ability to have a brain freeze is a good thing it means our body cares about what we are experiencing and wants to help us survive. I would be worried if I didn’t have a brain freeze cause then maybe my blood vessels aren’t expanding like they should in cold temperatures to keep my body warm and safe. It happens a little too fast though maybe the body is just over reacting a little. My brain assuming I’m stuck in the snow from eating ice cream too fast 😂 I’ll just eat slower. the migraine thing sucks though idk what’s up with that.

@user-ys9to2ie7k4 жыл бұрын
Ok I'm going to explain it... first you have to take into account that when you swallow sometimes it doesn't go all the way down but gets lodged just after you swallow and fills just at the base of your throat and can be regurgitated. Some may recall and experience how you can bring this up when eating something cold like ice cream and it's still quite Frozen. When this builds up with an ice-cold substance it freezes the nerves that run up into the back of the head and give you brain freeze. I suspect there's a medical term used when referring to the nerves when affected by Ice or the contraction of blood vessels.

Blood vessels don't widen, but constrict to preserve body tempature
@NibblyBitz2 күн бұрын
Sorry this is wrong 1:39. The body does not peripherally vasodilate. Your extremities are less important in the grand scheme of things for our body function. At the time of decreased core body temperature to compensate and maintain homeostasis our body actually peripherally vasoconstricts. This constriction keeps the warm blood and heat inside our bodies. Causing less heat loss through our extremities and returns it to our core where it is needed most. It's a defense mechanism for extreme colds. If you peripherally dilated all that blood will just cool down rapidly through conduction of the colder air.
