There are a lot of things that don't make sense about religion. Here is a compilation of things that religious people just don't get, and an explanation as to why religious beliefs make no sense whatsoever! I cover what religious people don't understand about location, race, meat, divinity, creation, fine-tuning, hell, worship, divinity, communication, omnipresence and so much more.

Why did God make us out if meat, weak and ignorant, and not like the hosts of heaven, creatures of spirit, with vast knowledge and no weakness of the flesh? Because there is a downside. The angles may not suffer or lack knowledge, or be urged by external factors, but they still sin. Why? The answer is pride. No matter how much knowledge they are endowed with or how powerful they are, they do not know what it means to depend on God in their weakness, because they have none, or to suffer well in God. So, when an angel's sin, their rebellion is permanent, because they have full knowledge of what they’re doing. But by inhabiting these meat sacks, sin anchors itself to our flesh, so that if the flesh is crucified, sin will be destroyed, and our spirit will remain. But of an angel, sin anchors itself to their spirit, but they are only spirit, so to destroy sin they would have to be annihilated from existence. Our meat sacks give us the property of redeemable grace, so that once we achieve our salvation, unlike the angels, we cannot lose it. Because our life here will always remind us of how little we were without God and will prevent pride when we are raised in glory, because we were sown in dishonor. Hope this helps.

Accurately under a Christian view, you ain’t going to hell just because you did wrong things, that is just one of the reasons. The main reason why people will go to hell is because they denied god. So god accepts your choice by not forcing you into heaven even though he wanted to. He honors your wish of of living away from god by giving you an eternity completely separated from him.
@ritchie6162
@ritchie6162 27 күн бұрын
@ eternity anywhere sounds like hell. And I didn’t deny this god, I simply have no reason to believe he exists. That isn’t something I can just force myself to believe. Nobody can. Nobody chooses their beliefs. I can lie to myself as much as I want but as long as this religion continues to not make any sense then I don’t have any reason to believe it. And we don’t “choose” hell. We don’t choose anything. It’s a coerced threat. “Sure you can deny my existence even though I haven’t given you any reason to believe in me, but unless you force yourself to acknowledge my existence and beg for my forgiveness then I’ll send you to a place of horrible torture for all eternity.” Totally a non-threatening choice. That’s like a robber pointing a gun at your head on the street, shooting you when you don’t give them money and having everyone blame you 100% for what happened because you didn’t give the robber all your money.

You can be special to the ones around you who care about you. That doesn’t make you special to everyone. I don’t know you, so you aren’t “special” to me, as I also mean nothing to you. That doesn’t mean I wish you ill, just that I don’t know you.

I FINALLY UNDERSTAND DEMOCRACY! It's not preferable because it gives the power to choose to the people. It's preferable because it takes power AWAY from kings/autocrats/dictators etc. This way, no single mad man (ie: regular person) can run the country to fulfill his own person desires. We get confused because obviously autocrats are much more efficient, they can get things done instantly by decree. The inefficiency of democracy is getting people killed and there are people who take advantage of that red tape in order to get more out of it than the common person. Autocrats and other proponents of plutocracy can still pay their way forward, if you know the president well enough you can commit any crime and get away with it, Biden pardon his own son and Trump plans on doing the same thing to anybody he cares about. If that's what democracy is I don't want it. Because that allows many many many many many people to be above the law when many many many many many many many many many many many many many more people are subjugate to those people, meaning I don't actually have any rights because they either can be voted Away by people who have more power than me, or they can be completely disregarded by those who have more rights than me. If I have the legal right to walk around a lake but I need to have a permit or special permission to enter the lake, and someone who doesn't need to regard any of those can go into the lake whenever they want, I don't have any rights. I have a privilege. And as I've said before, if that's democracy I don't want it's a great idea in theory, but what people should really care about is what happens in practice.

[02:45] Meat… “An omni-God should not have created predation in the animal world, either. The amount of animal suffering is atrocious, as creatures prey on one another to feed themselves. The extent of animal suffering cries out against the existence of a good God. This horrific suffering is perhaps the most difficult problem of all. To say these creatures do not feel pain is to reject the overwhelming evidence of evolution that proves we are all related as creatures. In lieu of this, an omni-God should have created all living things as vegans like herbivores such as rabbits, deer, sheep, cows, and hippos. And in order to be sure there is enough vegetation for all of us, God could have reduced our mating cycles and/or made edible vegetation like apple trees, corn stalks, blueberry bushes, wheat, and tomato plants grow as plenteous as wild weeds do today. ¶ An all-powerful God didn’t even have to create us such that we needed to eat anything at all. Since theists believe their god can do miracles, he could sustain us all with miraculously created nutrients inside our biological systems throughout our lives, and we wouldn’t know anything different. Such a deity could simply do a perpetual miracle here as well. In fact, there is nothing prohibiting god from feeding us by the process of photosynthesis, just like plant life, thereby not requiring animals at all. Given that God didn’t do this, many animals are farmed for human consumption under horrible conditions in intensive factory farms, abused in experimental labs, or trapped in horrible ways without any condemnations of animal abuse in God’s alleged revelation in the Bible.” - John W. Loftus, _God and Horrendous Suffering_ “Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then from whence comes evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” - Epicurus “HERMES: How many are willing to criticize a god by the standards of reason and justice? ¶ SOCRATES: [Ponders.] All who are just, I suppose. For how can anyone be just if he follows a god of whose moral rightness he is not persuaded? And how is it possible to be persuaded of someone’s moral rightness without first forming a view about which qualities are morally right?” - David Deutsch, _A Dream of Socrates_ “Whoever praises him as a God of love does not think highly enough of love itself.” - Nietzsche, _Thus Spake Zarathustra_

Why stop there. An omni-god should have been able to create life that does not need to ingest living things. Many plants can perform photosynthesis and do not need live food. Many single-celled organisms live off various compounds that aren't themself part of any living entity.

But when I come to online forums, the lunacy, the lack of understanding, the strawmaning, the pride and arrogance. And all in the name of absolute and objective Truth, humility, grace and love towards fellow humans. If the faith has anything to offer then the behaviour of so many of these online folk is an absolute disgrace, given the claims they make.

If you put the TP roll on wrong-ways, the outer layers of TP on the roll may be slightly clawed; but the TP is still on the roll.

The best part about “chosen people” is when one has to explain the fact that as a species, humans are reeeally inbred. We’re all rather close cousins. Soooo…
@titanomachy2217
@titanomachy2217 Ай бұрын
Maybe *they* are, considering they have to keep their sacred blood "pure", leading to an extraordinarily high incidence of genetic mental illnesses like schizophrenia. Seriously, look it up, Ashkenazi Jews have really high rates of schizophrenia. Also Pakistanis, they normally marry their cousins (literally more often than not) so they have extreme inbreeding problems. But no, most people do not qualify as "inbred" just because they breed with the same species, that's not what that means.

This is a misunderstanding of “chosen people.” That clip from the Christian saying that now Christians are the chosen people, says so much. It’s a classic response from Christians who are ignorant and arrogant. I’m not Jewish, but I’ve heard this from several rabbis. They don’t think that they’re better than anyone else or chosen above others. The chosen moniker is that they were chosen to present God and the Torah to the world. That’s it.

I loved your cool, science-y introduction, Thomas! Science is so cool! Plus, your 'shower thoughts'-esque ponderings totally brought me back to my year-round swimming days, when I'd be stuck in my head for 5 hours a day/6 days a week and I'd challenge myself to think of questions that wouldn't have a readily available answer to try and stump as many people as I could. Thanks for another quality and thought-provoking documentary! (I, too, found the whole dynamic between god and humans in the bible to be entirely unsettling in the D/V type way. The story of Abraham and Isaac always came across as truly and diabolically manipulative. If your partner asked you to do that in order to "prove" your love and devotion, you'd call the police! I honestly blame the rampant reiteration of that theme a teeny bit for why I used to be so accepting of abvsive people taking advantage of me in my life.)

19:01 Fear vs Love. When I became a Xn, it was within the confines of a very love-centered youth group at a Presbyterian church. I don’t remember any use of words like “fear”. It seemed amazing. I read great works of literature like “Falling from Cloud Nine and Other High Places” I found at Zondervan in the teen section. Lots of guided* Bible study. I did read the whole Bible all the way through once, but I’m sure I read quickly and uncritically through the non-Love™️ parts. It wasn’t until my late teen and early 20s that I found the Fear God™️ bits at a nondenominational charismatic church. My deconstruction took root in my late twenties, when i began to realize, among other things, that the Love I experienced came from the really good, loving, caring people I encountered early on, not some outside being who inhabited them and myself.

In 240BC, Greek astronomer , geographer , mathematician, and librarian Eratosthenes calculated the Earth’s circumstance by erecting a pole in Alexandria and observing that is cast a shadow on the summer solstice . This proved that the Sun was not directly overhead but slightly south , and Eratosthenes was able to calculate the planet’s circumference by recognizing the curvature of the Earth and knowing the distance between two cities . His data was rough , but he wasn’t far off . By the time Roman writer Pliny the Elder wrote Natural History around AD 77, the fact that the Earth is a sphere was common knowledge , none of which came from ANY HOLY BOOK .
