I work in retail, in a grocery store and I get all of these questions all the time. I have never reacted or thought negatively of someone asking questions like these. The only time I am irritated with things like these, are if the customers act obnoxiously or are rude. Please don't be put off asking questions because of assumptions like these. Usually we are happy to help, just be nice to us.

@@Pink_pr1ncess I worked in retail for 4 years whilst studying full time. People struggle, and sometimes just need a bit of help. Yes I got pissed off with some people, but you can easily tell the genuine apart from the lazy entitled people. The difference is how you emotionally deal with the worst that comes out of you. I have had shifts where I have gone home crying with really bad days. As a general though I'm not going to get pissed off at random people for simple ass questions, it's a tiny bit more effort on my part??? If workers do get upset over these really simple questions then imo, it says more about the mental maturity of the worker than anything. This is just my opinion though and I fully understand if you disagree, and I respect your opinion. But people deal with things, and other people differently.

I'm the opposite, I refuse to ask for help no matter how much of a rush I'm in because I always feel so stupid afterwards😭 Once I walked around the fridge area of this medium size store for 30 minutes, before getting the courage to ask where the sour cream was. It was directly behind me.
@tonaerio
@tonaerio Жыл бұрын
@@rowanberry321Honestly just ask, its not a big deal. As long as you’re nice and ask politely then there’s no problem. I used to get stressed out having to go ask people where stuff was, but after working at a supermarket while I’m at uni I honestly feel super fine just asking someone for help because I know that they don’t mind. The only time where it’s annoying is if they’re rude. Like someone came up to me and just went “Show me where this is” and then when I tell them they go “No it’s not I found it from this aisle last week” and no matter how hard I try to explain where it is, even offering to walk them to it, they are stubborn and eventually say I’m not helpful and going to find someone else.

As someone who did this. I ALWAYS check when I say I am going to check. My colleagues also, UNLESS we know for sure it is the last item. Sometimes, I do want a break and don't want anyone in my line, but yes, I do have a job to do 😅 and I CHOSE the job, so... We don't mind when customers ask about where things are because they could be in a rush or tourists, not wearing their glasses or just having a long day, etc... We can call for someone from the aisle the assist even if you're unable to find the item yourself OR if it's a slow period, a colleague or myself can step out and assist you to the item. 😊 I don't want you to hurt yourself carrying groceries. Please let me know if you need a bag. Most times, it's just 15c, and you get to reuse them for as long as ever. And like someone else said. If I'm not the right person to ask, whether I'm in another aisle or section or taking a break, I'll let you know and direct you to the right person. I might be needed because someone else needs to leave, so I need to return before then, or it messes with others' schedules. Another team member can assist because it is teamwork. 😅 Please don't be afraid to ask for help, we're here to help you. Please be aware that, like you, we are human. There can be misunderstandings or technical issues as well as company policy involved in our interactions so please do clarify your concern or request and we will do the same to ensure transactions and your purchase experience goes as smoothly as possible and you get what you need or are directed to other options (I always share options if I can) 😊 Have a great day 🎉❤

I work at Asda doing the night shift but I also work for 2 hours while the store is open with the last customers from 8-10pm and the amount of times I've been asked to "check the back" in the last 3 months it's crazy, I just laugh in my head like "yeah because it'll definitely be in the back and not the 2 whole pallets on the shop floor that you can clearly see I'm working" either that or I think "so you know what's back there and I don't?", but the reply I usually use is "if you can't see it on the shelf or find a bay for it then we don't have it"

The second I hear them say they were about to go on break, or are on break, I tell them I'll figure it out on my own or find someone else and to go enjoy however long they've got left. I despised customers who would still make me help them when I was on my break. Like, I have 15 minutes to get to the other end of the building, eat my food, debate quitting my job, and haul ass back to here to clock back in. Helping you for 9 minutes means I have no time to eat and have to wait 4 more hours until my next break and keep my fingers crossed that I won't pass out before then. Find any of the other 2 dozen people roaming around that are still clocked in.

I was in customer service and not a single one of these feelings crossed my mind. If you don’t enjoy interacting with customers, then maybe getting a different job would be better suited And if this is the only job that you can get then just learning to be understanding and kind goes a looong way. You don’t have to like your work, just don’t be an asshole. It bothers me when channels like this present customers as Karen’s but cast this behaviour in a positive light 😒 Again I worked minimum wage in customer service and interacting with customers was the highlight of my job.

It's fine. All so very true plus for breaks I used to have customers ask me for help when on my lunch I would be standing there holding my phone a drink and looking at the sandwich's and still be asked where stuff is or even worse when I was finished for the day and even had my coat on lol

What retail workers actually do: hide the item they want in the back so that they can buy it themselves when it goes on sale/clarence I know this because I worked at Spirit Halloween. My coworkers did this all the time, lol

The one I've seen that annoys me is when customers look at the menu we have, read it a few seconds, then come and ask if we have a menu, like I just watched you read it, of course we have one

as someone with anxiety, this was kinda a terrible post . most retail workers don’t feel this way , we don’t think negatively of you . and please don’t hesitate to ask us questions !! i get happy when people ask for my help . as long as the person isn’t rude to me i don’t think negatively . also please don’t be rude to your cashiers or the workers you see in a grocery store .

See what I don’t understand about people, especially my mom, is why they ask an employee before even attempting to look for it. Yes, you can ask where something is but at least try to look for it.
